We did a passport in Ubon 2 weeks ago I believe she only brought her ID card, you can get the photo and everything at the same time.
We went there Tuesday, paid 1035 baht (1000 for passport and 35 for photo or postage) and receive it via mail on Saturday.

happend today in broad daylight, 15 Policemen stop every motorbike (also the small ones) on beach road in Pattaya and check for your security ... since most people get used to helmets they need a new source of income, so the ask you for Drivers License (international or thai) and Passport, both in original - for sure 95% are not caring these documents while enjoy a day on the beach
the result is lots, lots of angry tourists - every one (incl. me) got a THB 400.- fine (or more)
this is official ripoff in broad daylight - i guess they have to prop-up the city budget, since they lost already 25% of tourists ...
i'm a was a frequent visitor to thailand, like many others, i'm really pi**ed off
i know TIT ... but Lalaland has to wake up
Why is it a rip off? Its the law?
I am staying in Sisaket and so far in a month I have seen 3 situations like the one you describe, first time my GF was asked if I was with her and after providing docs on our motobikes which she hasn't because its a new one he asked if we had a license neither of us did and we were told to get one soon.
2nd time was not waved over.
3rd time with the GF on the back of her bike with no plate (again its new) we were not waved over
Both for the 2nd and 3rd time most people were stopped. I guess things work a little different up here
If I had been fined on either of those occasions I would have paid and kept my shit in order for the next time.

Thanks for the info its for Sisaket Town.

Si Sa Ket
They will be offering English and Thai Karaoke, and serving Very Good Hamburgers and Hot Dogs as well as Beer and Cocktails. They are open Fri, Sat, Sun afternoons and early evenings.
Nice place....Good people!
Almost got in trouble over this one, saying to the missus that I wanted to go there alone for a burger since I have been craving one, after she had passed on Sunday seeing it was a karaoke place and not a restaurant as I thought it was

Sounds like a restriction with your ATM card.
I usually withdraw 20K or what ever the max the ATM will allow me using a Visa Electron card in US$ been using KBank, Bangkok bank, Aeon and the yellow one.
-
Aeon for sure I use them regularly when I shop at Big C or Tesco.
150 baht is not much but if you withdraw 5-8 times a month 12 months a year then it adds up those 10K baht I can easily use for something else.

Just moved to Sisaket town and rented a house here.
heard a rumor that there were 2000 falangs in the province of Sisaket
I've been kicking around here for close to 8 years now.. 2000 actual expats living here is IMHO an impossibly bloated figure, 100's yes, 1000's no. 2000 farang tourists per year sounds about right though.
OK just what I heard it was the entire province of Sisaket not the town of Sisaket.
Going around the town for first couple of weeks here I've seen less than 10.

These look cool. Anyone buying one / bought one? Any idea on cost?
I bought a Click for the missus on Saturday 46K.
Looks exactly like the one pictured and everyone have been telling her either that its a brand new model that recently came out or they never seen one like that one before.
My experience with bikes is very limited but it had no problems driving me (110Kg) and the missus (45kg) around with good speed and acceleration. Same when we added 2 kids (20kg each) for a short ride

If you are currently renting and you don't mind please post your monthly rent so I have an idea of what to expect.

Looking for a good place to rent in Sisaket or close to Sisaket within 5-10KM on the eastern/northern/south side of town looking for min. 1 year maybe longer. If anyone know of anything or hear something please let me know, I will be arriving on Monday the 29th.
We need 2 bedroom minimum, western toilet is a must, I would like a good house and not a place thats falling apart.
Thanks in advance :=)

Thanks for the info guys this will be the first bike I will be looking for.

At that weight, you might consider a Kawasaki ER6. As for wife with kids - a sedan.
Car is not an option for me at this time and I think the ER6 is a little to much machine for me.

Hey Spaceman,
I've been here for nearly a year now and have relentlessly been reviewing the pro's and cons of which bikes for which purpose. If I am right to assume you don't have any tight limitations on budget, then the best bike by far for what you are describing, is the Yamaha Nouvo Elegance. It's 135cc watercooled automatic, big enough for you and the use you describe, as well as for her and 2 kids. Be aware that you cannot buy in your name without at least a non-imm visa usually, but you should be able to take them the same day, and even have them trucked or sent by train or bus, or even through the post office (yeah, I know, cool huh?) to wherever you are going. If you tell me where, I might be able to make a better, more specific suggestion. Everything else you asked about can be accomplished easily pretty much as you described.
Where are you now?
John
Thanks for the reply.
Going to Sisaket and from my experience so far the roads are pretty good and no hills to talk of, there were a a handful shops selling bikes but I have no idea about the availability. About 50K Baht per bike is my limit and registering them in her name is not a problem for me I knew this from the beginning. Problem is there are no rental places in town so we have to get at least one bike the first day to be able to get around.
But 125cc and up should be good right? Her an kids weigh less than me so whats good for me will work for her

Been plowing through the forums but still have a couple of questions if you don't mind
We need 2 bikes but I have no idea which ones to buy only ridden a bike here once.
We are staying in a 30,000 people town, not much traffic and need recommendations for bikes.
1) Me 105kg (240 pounds), 184cm (6 feet), need to get around town go to Big C, Tesco 5-10 kms away stuff like this mayb 20-30km a day max.
2) She is a normal Thai size small. Need to get around a little more 10km trips each way to see the family maybe 30-50km a day but no trips longer than 10km. Have to be a "family" bike so she can have 2 kids on it.
We are moving on Monday and there are no rental places in town!! So we have to buy them same day to be able to get around easily but I have a few questions.
3) Is it possible to buy, register and take out of shop same day?
4) How do I register the bikes? Its going to be in her name since I figure its the easiest and I have no problem with that.
5) Mandatory insurance? Is there such a thing, I read about having insurance sticker on the bike is it something I can get at the bike shop or should I go through a company?
Thanks in advance

Hi, I am new to Thai Visa forum...thank you all for the valuable advice.
I opened a savings account yesterday with a Tourist Visa.
My wife(Thai) and I opened a joint savings account at the Kasikorn Bank in Rangsit across the highway from Major Cinema. Near all the Chinese gold shops..
All of the banks in Future Park said "sorry, no"...
Hi willgreg21,
I manage to open a Thai Bank account in Future Park in Rangsit my Thai gf had a laugh at me saying I would not manage it but I did.
If you look at the Bangkok Bank website is state that you have to prove
1 Your Address (Letter where you stay)
2 Your Identity Passport
Lastly you have a number of options
1 Letter from Good person that the Bank knows a customer of Bangkok Bank
2 A letter from the Embassy that you are who you say you are
3 a WP
4 or a Driving Licence with a photo of your face
The last one is the easiest
Now when I went to Bangkok they stated ,, no no Sir you need to go to your embassy get a letter from them
My reply was that is not what it says on your website I made an appointment to see their manager
Next day No manager but a different person on the desk , but this time I was armed with a print out of the WEbsite.
So got it this time after a few discussions....
Moral of the story don''t give up
PM me if you need any more help for Rangsit
I opened an account in Kasikorn in Pattaya took 20 minutes and they just made a copy of my passport did not even look at the visa page didn't want address or anything. Cost 500 deposit and 300 for account/ATM card.

Atm Swallows My International Credit Card

I work for a company dealing in online payments and we issue Visa Electron cards to our account holders.
It sometimes happens that a ATM keeps a card and if the Account Holder contacts us we suggest sending a fax to the bank confirming that they can give the card back to him.
This works in 95% of the instances.
