  1. Am I correct in thinking that you do require to have a legalised copy of passport or just a standard photo copy ? If a legalised copy is required where and how is this done and what time scales ?

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Option 1 in the post above were required of me.

I had the photo page translated, a copy of the page from my embassy with their stamp on it and them approving the translation.

Then to Ministry of Foreign affairs to have the documents stamped by them also (use a courier service)

Due to the protests it took me 4 days to get the copy stamped at MoF since I am not from BKK I had a translation service get it stamped and mail it to me.

Embassy were in and out in 15 minutes but it depends on your country I guess.

I tried with just having the page translated but no luck they wanted it the way described above.

  2. Well I got it done on Monday

    Process:

We handed in her house book, ID card and marriage certificate.

For me, Passport, Legalized translation of passport picture page and marriage certificate

She filled out some paper work were asked about anything we wanted to put on paper regarding assets, children and future support but we have solved that between us.

2 witnesses had to sign a couple of pieces of paper, so did we.

45 minutes later and 65 baht poorer I left with a nice shiny new divorce certificate.

  3. I am working on getting divorced we have split things and both agree to it.

The hold up have been I need a translated copy of my passport picture page where the copy have been authorized by my embassy and the translation stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I have the documents in order now and on Monday we will both show up at the Amphur office and I expect it to be done within an hour based on what I have read here.

We have tried twice before to get divorced but they insisted on the legalized translation of my passport page so it took a trip to BKK for me :s

You could have tried at another amphur.

Could have, should have but what if it were the same result?

The official guidelines are a legalized copy of your passport photo page so why mess around with it.

    Expected more from a mod.

  5. It might have been a racist term in the past but when I go to Tesco and a 3 year old kid points at me and says FARANG I don't see it as an insult and it shows that white guys are labelled as Farangs. What I do now is I point back and say THAI.

With that said the secretary/PA of a friend of mine called up True to have get internet installed in my new house and the word Farang were never used.

  6. You will need proof of adultery. The time it will take depends on the oher party. If it is a no show, it will take long as seevral attempts must be made to let her appear.

It is of course much easier to try and get an uncontested divorce at the amphur and enter an agreement regarding division of assets. Safes a lot of headache, money and time.

Yeah but if the other person is not willing to do it :s

I searched the forum for adultery but found no usable topic but find this link using google http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/354509-divorce-proving-adultery/ after posting. Looks like its not easy to prove.

  7. What proof is needed to get an divorce based on Adultery?

I have the father and wife of the guy she have been shagging up with, willing to tell what they know, might even be able to turn up a couple more people testifying, neighbors of the place she have live during our seperation.

I guess it would take have to go to court so it would take 6-12 months?

  8. Do Peppers have a website with all their products listed and priced.

Watch this space as its coming soon. I have just sold the business and the new owners will be updating and creating the new website shortly. On saying that, I would like to thank all of my many customers and friends that have supported me over the past 3.5 years. I have had a wonderful time chatting over a cuppa or two and meeting the varying characters that make up this wonderful city of Ubon. I will be taking a break for a couple of months then think about whats next.

The new owners are Julian and Uriel and they bring a wealth of experience to Peppers as they come from a strong restaurant back ground in the US. I would like to welcome them to Ubon Ratchathani and I wish them every success in their new business at Peppers Bakery.

Cheers to you all and thank you again.

    Regards

    John

Only been to Peppers once since I don't get out much but it were great, only good things to say about the place. The food were great and the kids loved the whole cake I bought, gone in less than 30 minutes.

I wish the new owners all the best of luck and I will try to drop by when I can. One suggestions is if you have a bakery there make the brown bread, I think its called Rye bread and I am Danish and I know I am not the only one looking for real bread.

  9. I had a local guy come asking me for help he has not been able to make payments on his car for the last 1 1/2 month because of the floods and what ever, so he missed 2 payments, 15th of Sep and 15th of Oct.

Car company claims he have missed 3 monthly payments so they can come and take the car away from him and he has 15 months left on a 6 year finance deal paid on time every month and I have seen the receipts from him paying every month except from Sep and Oct.

    My questions are:

Can the car company reposes the car without going to court first?

I have seen the receipts so I know he is only 1 1/2 month behind what are his options?

What is the law regarding repossessing a car in Thailand?

He is a good honest hard working guy thats about to be screwed over and I want to help because its just ain't right

  10. What is the reason that they have come to the attention of authorities and the circumstances to warrant deportation. Is it simply an expired visa, did she use her Danish Partner as a tool to get into the country or was she involved in some inappropriate conduct or criminal activity.

It is a shame for the children who are victims of their parents actions.

Nothing from the story says she used her husband to get a visa.

She married a Danish citizen lived in Denmark for 3+ years and I know how hard it is just to bring your spouse and (their) children to Denmark the requirements are very strict.

This is the Danish immigration rules and she could have a full time job and being a model citizen and still be deported, if you think Thai visa rules are crazy take a look at the Danish rules.

If you are a non-EU citizen its a lot easier to get a visa and stay long term in Thailand than it is to stay long term in Denmark.

I am married to a Thai so I am here on a Non-O easy to get and easy to renew, I looked into bringing the Mrs and the kids to DK but gave up I couldn't for fill the requirements despite me working full time and having a full time job offer for the Mrs in DK.

Whine all you want about Thai visa rules but we have it easy compared to Thais in EU.

  11. So it went from no one injured to hundreds can be killed according to the latest update!

The number of people possibly trapped by the fire could reach into the hundreds, though Phuket City Police chief Sermphan Sirikong was reluctant to estimate how many people may have died in the blaze.

Another example of everyone being busy stuffing their pockets instead of doing their job.

  12. Thanks to all for the advice, we just spent 4 great days at the Sunee Grand and saw a completely different side to Ubon city. And I mean that literally, I had no idea that huge road of bar and restaurants along the Moon River was there, it blew me away as I didn't think Ubon had anything like this.

The hotel was excellent. Again, much nicer than I expected from Ubon and if it wssn't for everyone's advice I wouldn't even have considered it and would probably have stayed at LaiThong again. Sunee is a hundred times better!

Something strange happened on checkin and I was thinking about what you guys said about them changing the rates; basically I found a Junior Suite on Agoda for 3k a night, the Sunee website had the same suite for 2800 baht a night all inclusive, so we called them to check and they confirmed, they have this room for 2800 baht all inclusive. So we I didn't pre-book, I thought I'd chance it worst case if they up the price to 3500 baht I'll book it on Agoda on my phone. We get to the hotel an hour later and they say they don't have any of those suites available, nor any deluxe rooms even though Agoda was showing many of each available, they said they only the more expensive suite which is 3k (has panoramic city view) and a special room. So I ask to see the suite and this "special" deluxe room they have. So the special room was just a deluxe with an extra bed for 2700 baht, which is right cuz a deluxe is 2k and an extra bed is 700 baht, the bell boy shows us the junior suite which I didn't like because the room is partitioned into several smaller rooms, so we ask the bellboy to see what else they have and he shows us a couple of empty deluxes and an empty normal junior suite, and he says that they have many of each available. So basically the front desk were lying when they said they only had the expensive junior suites left and we ended up staying in the deluxe room which was big enough for all 4 of us (2 babies!!).

Anyways, that's really my only grumble. The food was great, in fact we spent the first 2 days eating lunch and dinner in the hotel like terrible tourists!

I thought that Water Park was rubbish but the hotel's own pool was OK. Staff were incredible and made us and my son feel very welcome. The band rocked in their own way too!!

All in all, I cannot recommend the Sunee Grand enough to anyone. We'll definitely be going back there whenever we want a change from the countryside.

    Cheers all for the advice.

I believe that kids under 12 stay free no matter the amount if they don't need an extra bed so with 3 kids under 12 thats perfect for me :D I just sleep on the couch or on the floor (cheap charlie)

Yes the water park isn't the best but within 300km of that I doubt there is much similar so it rocks for us living here and I had to drag my kids out of there :D

I love the lobby of the hotel one of the nicest I have seen especially in that price range.

Good to hear you had a good time.

  13. Sorry about the flooding in "Kunlawadee Village". I bought a house there when they were new. I think early 90's. We had one flood there that had 3-4 feet of water. I packed my daughter out on my shoulders . we had many warnings of floods coming but usually had maybe 6 inches in the house. I sold the house in '05 and came back to the U.S. with wife and daughter to get my daughter in a decent school system. Have you ever ran into Willie from Belgium or , Neil from California, I moved there in early 80's with 15 years in Kunlawadee. The best of everything to you and pray you will bounce back and have the restful live that can be had in Sisaket. Take care

    Don.

Thanks. Yes, I do know Willem from Belgium, but he'd left Kulawadee many moons ago. Haven't heard anything from him. The Canadian Grad seems to be divorced from his wife. He used to live in Soi 7, when he was here.

No idea about a Neil..but must have met him.

Life must go on. Feel sorry for so many others too. We'd just moved into this place after the temple and then a flood. Life's a bitch.-wai.gif

Willie closed shop about 2 years ago and have since moved to Phuket been back a couple of times but are happy staying in Phuket.

  14. Its thousands of people, just where I live there are a couple of hundred houses all flooded and according to what I were told today we were only the 3rd worst hit area in Sisaket but its middle class so most people managed to pack up and get out in time, met my neighboor in Big C today, he is staying in a hotel but there are still a lot of poor people that are screwed and their only option is staying in a tent.

  15. I feel your pain though you are worse hit than me. I live in the housing estate on the right just after the prison when coming from the Amphur offices.I assume you are in the same area?

I am currently living alone (long story) and my Thai sucks but Monday I started to get the idea of what was going on and luckily my landlord showed up with a truck and 4-5 strong guys and my house were emptied in 2 hours and he is storing my stuff for me AND put me up in a room, with air con, wifi and a fridge and apologized for not having a TV.

I went back to the house today still about 80cm of water in the street but the house were dry but there should be more water coming :( I think its going to be a while before we get dry.

  16. I 've always liked the Toshang. May not be the best but staff is nice. Away from the center of town but closer to the mall. They do have a couple of nice double suites. No pool. But hey the prison is next door.

Agreed - Tohsang is good value upperish end, but deffo not 5* hotel on room standard - but good enough for me and my family (I've had my belly-full of the best hotels in the world at extraordinary prices, having travelled extensively on business - happy to return to the real worldsmile.png ). The excellent buffet breakfast with wide range of choices not normally seen outside the mega tourist spot hotels is pretty near 5* - haven't tried Sunny but would be surprised if this was not the best breakfast in Ubon.

Based on one stay 3 years ago though - would be interested in anyone else's more recent take on it. Perhaps i'll give it an inspection stay and report back next month!

Thais seem to regard the Laithong as a top end hotel of choice in Ubon. I stayed there once and will not stay again until reports convince me that their management has changed the staff culture. It was positively hostile and uncaring towards guests the one time I stayed 4 years ago. No internet provided in rooms (<deleted>?) and two bust free desktops in the foyer - staff were totally uninterested in helping me find a place outside that I could check my emails.

In international and even Thai national terms Ubon is just amazingly cheap to stay and blessed by loads of choice, except at the top end. There is so much capacity being added but it is all at the 500-750 baht a night formulaic Mansion and Mansion+ level. There is a real need for a 2,500 baht a night really tasteful room boutique hotel with a gorgeous non-boutique size pool for the higher end international tourist/businessperson. I won't be staying there though and I guess that's the problem - there are 100 people like me for every one person like I used to be!

Stayed at Tohsang hotel twice and would have no issues going back but at pretty much the same price you can stay at Sunee and with kids I would prefer Sunee due to the pool, water park and mall right next door. Didn't get to try the breakfast at Sunee since we woke up 5 minutes before check out time :D
