  1. I moved to Sisaket 6 months ago stayed there 4 months and have been back home for 2 months now before going back next month.

I like it there, have a Big C, Makro and Tesco Lotus so most daily needs are covered. I agree on Frank's only been there a couple of times but nice guy and good food.

Overall nice place never had any problems with anyone and I am really looking forward to getting back.

If anyone can PM me the link that were removed I will appreciate it :)

There is a map of Sisaket town here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Updated-Map-...&hl=sisaket

  3. The land was 60,000 baht (approx half a rai)

The materials cost about 450,000 baht

The guy to build the place cost me 115,000 baht

The front of house archway and porch 5000 baht(My builder couldn't do it)

This included electric and water into the house, but not the drilling for water and the pump and the electric meter so they can bill you, which i forget the price but not much.

I would say around 650,000 for the whole lot incl purchase of the land, i was lucky because we had no problems, it also depends on what you like, loads of different prices for things, best idea is to get some address of building suppliers and write down the different prices, as buying in bulk 1 or 2 baht price difference can save you loads in the end!

Its 12 metres long and 10 metres wide, so i guess 120sq metres, i wanted a outdoor eating area undercover so 4 sq meter was left for the table and chairs.

Where in Thailand are you going to build? The land in Issan is alot cheaper than say Pattaya or Koh Samui, and the builders will charge you alot more i would double that money for a place in those areas maybe more! Let me know more what you plan to do. Good luck. More pics below...

Thanks for the info really helped to get an idea of the cost planning to build in Sisaket so getting some info from that area is very useful :)

120 sqm or there about would suit us fine still a year or so away before any build is going to get started.

  4. If you use a Visa card Visa charge a 1% currency conversion fee and the issuing bank as well as the owner of the ATM can impose a fee as well (the dreaded 150 baht fee) this would be included in the daily limit as well.

Visa base the exchange rate for the major 25 currencies (don't know if Baht falls into this category) on the average of the previous days rate.

  5. I have to put my hand up i have done it once or twice over the years, luckily somebody, or i have noticed before anything has happened , I now have a habit of feeling for the stand with my leg when i am on the move, It really does not matter how the stand is hinged , it just digs in the road and you are thrown sideways, At speed you could go under another car or like the poor unfortunate man hit something substantial. RIP to him

    Sad story :)

I have done it a few times but luckily found out before anything happened.

I know Honda have it on their new bikes that it can no start if the stand is down, explanation given by the dealer were that to many accidents happened because of the stand being down.

Sad story he lost his life and his wife lost a husband :D

  6. No Thai citizen need do military service if they don't want to. Just ask around for details. Traditionally, it's not discussed on internet forums.

Why does he not want to do military service?

He is willing to hold Thai citizanship so why should he not serve his country?

    Is he a coward?

Maybe he is spending the next couple of years taking a university degree in the US and he plans to live in the US but don't want to risk getting forced into the army when he wants to visit the country he were born in.

Read the original post and think a little bit before you post BS.

  7. I know I will get ripped into pieces for this but not all women are gold diggers. Some really do want to help. Despite being given housekeeping money, which is more than enough to pay bills and have some spending money, many women are not satisfied with that and want to help bring in funds to the family through work or their own small business. There is also the issue of feeling useful and doing something worthwhile.

Obviously there are others who will take your money and as soon as you are away turn to a Thai boyfriend or falang one for that matter. However, I doubt that you know the OP or his missus so it is a tad unfair to pass judgement. Perhaps, your comments are based on personal experience. I really don't know.

I agree with you on both points.

I spend half the year in Thailand and half away, I send money to my wife simply because I do not want her to slave away in a very low paying job, I earn more in a day than she would working in 7-11, in a factory or a similar job. She wanted to get a job to help out, instead she is back in school so long term we can start a business to make us independent of my day job.

We are both young so this seemed to us as an better idea than her working for peanuts and I wouldn't feel good with her working for 5K a month when we don't need it and her going to school also get her out of the house :)

  8. It's good to hear the hotel was helpful. Unfortunately I'll never experience that hospitality. The cheapest room there is 7,700 baht. I choke at anything above 1,600 baht.

My sister got a special through hotels.com for 1500 baht per night. My wife and I got for 2200 baht per night through some other website since the special on hotels.com were over when I were booking. When we got to the hotel they didn't any more deluxe rooms and upgraded us to a Premier room :)

I would never pay 7K for a room if I had to pay myself plenty of really good hotels for 1500-2500 when booking online most will be prepaid and are non-refundable but thats a risk I am willing to take. I stayed at their Sukhumvit hotel before so I knew they were OK but the Sathorn hotel is better.

  9. My sister came to visit me in Bangkok and stayed 4 days after I went home, on her last night she walked back to the hotel which were down a small street she walked on the wrong side of the street since the other side were blocked by cars so she had her bag on the wrong shoulder facing the street and didn't think about it since she always carry it to the inside. A motobike drove by and the passenger grabbed her bag with her phone, 2 CCs and money she just withdrew for her spa day she would have on the last day waiting for her midnight flight.

She got back to the hotel and they did everything to assist her in getting her CCs blocked and one of the receptionists came with her to the police station and translated for her. The next day she had to check out at noon and had planned to have a full spa day until leaving for the airport but couldn't afford it because she lost her CCs and money luckily she had a little Hongkok Dollars so she had money for food and a taxi for the airport.

With only little money and not much to do she just hang around the lobby at the hotel and after an hour or so the manager approached her and asked her when her flight were, knowing what had happened the previous night and when she told him it weren't until midnight he said she didn't had to wait around in the lobby and he of cause would get her a room, so he got her a room for free until she had to leave for the airport.

It were a terrifying experience for her but the help and the kindness of the hotel staff did that in the end she left Bangkok with a positive impression of Thailand and when she tells the story now its not so much that her bag got stolen but the tremendous help she got from the hotel.

Don't know if its OK I post the link but I think they need a thumbs up.

We stayed at Furama Exclusive Sathorn hotel were good, staff great and I would stay there again.

  10. If you are living in Sisaket why can't you help the kid. Your English is obviously good and I presume English is your first language.

No, English is not my mother language and No, Mr and Mrs PMNL are not in SSK.

It is very hard to find an English teacher there.Cant believe it.

Since my brother is studying at the aforementioned school and he is taking some extra- classes at the same time.

Travel to Sompoi would not be good idea for now. I was expecting to find one of the teachers from his school or someone who lives nearby just to spend a few hours a week talking to him, get him to read simple article in Engliah out loud, just to practice converstion.

    Any one out there?

What about trying to ask at one of the farang restaurants? Both places have been more than helpful in helping me and I am sure they will help if they know someone.

There is one on Thanon Khwanghen across from the bus station and one on Thanon Wijitnakorn on the right side after it crosses Thanon Siwicet.

  11. I work in the debit card industry and see this issue on a regular basis.

    What usually happens is.

    1) The bank owning the ATM realize that the ATM did not give out money on that transaction

    2) The bank never completes the transaction after authorizing the transaction in the first place. (check with your bank if they charged the card or just put a hold on the money, if they just put a hold on the money then your bank should be able to return the money to the account about 30 days after the withdrawal were attempted.

    3) We have to charge back the transaction for "Funds not dispensed" then the owner of the ATM will check the ATM and if the balance of the ATM shows a surplus of money then the charge back is successful.

  12. There will be an office in Sisaket Province responsible for that province. Where / when are still question marks in many cases.

. There is one, it is in phusing

I saw last week they have chnged the name from PhuSing, to Srisaket Imm Office

Its moved from the city of PhuSing to the border so its another 30-40Ks from Phusing towards the Sa Ngam check point. Its 3-4Ks before the border in the middle of nothing.

  13. Last time for me ...35 mins ....at Suvvie and Don Muang before ..never more than 45 mins ever in 10 or so entries. (least about 30 mins)

I rate Thailand way way way above my other port Heathrow that once took me 2 hours to exit ...why??? 9/11 or something !

Arriving at 2-3pm it have taken me less than 1 hour.
