1. I am renting for 4500 a month for a 2 bedroom, small office, 2 bath, 120 sqm town house style house which is a bit over market price.

Had Thai toilets when we moved in but the house owner installed western toilets if we paid for the toilets.

A good idea would be to check in with the 2 falang restaurants here, PM me if you need more info.

AEON have one more advantages than not paying the 150 baht fee you can take out 40K in one transaction so for me using AEON I save on a monthly basis more than 15K baht in Thai bank fees and withdrawal fees to my own bank for me its worth using AEON and they have a ATM at both Big C and Tesco here.

3. If you don't have a low fee credit card or debit card (like Nationwide), and therefore have to pay 5% every time you use an ATM, is opening a Thai bank account basically the cheapest way of getting money from a UK account? I'm just wondering if I should maybe buy a pile of traveller's cheques before I leave. Thanks.

If you can wire cheap from your UK bank account then wiring to your Thai bank account is by far the best option.

Todays rates:

Wire 48.82 per £1

Traveler cheques £48.69 per £1

Cash 48.29 per £1

Debit card not listed but probably 47.something per £1

There are fees on cheques and cards so the best option for larger amounts is wires.

I pay about 200 baht to receive Danish Kroner in my Thai bank account I only pay 120 baht to send a wire using my online banking in Denmark.

Make sure the money is wired from your UK bank account in £ otherwise your will get a worse rate and then its not an good idea to wire the money.

Sorry if this have been answered before but after the first 10 or so replies I stopped reading because of the noise some posters tend to post instead of answering your questions. My advice is to ignore them and sort through the replies. Some people on this forum think the only Thai girl you can meet is a bar girl, everyone out side of Bangkok or not of Thai-Chinese decent is a bar girl, maybe because they themselves have not been able to meet other than bar girls and then wonder why it not works out between not considering the 20-40 year age gap.

I got married in January and my official income is around 30K baht a month, I needed a piece of paper from the Danish embassy to get married and it basically said:

I were single.

The number of kids I had (0)

My monthly income.

Don't lie on the statement, ask your embassy for advice maybe they know the minimum income you have to have if there is one. As far as I know there isn't one. When we went to the office to get married they only looked quickly at the papers and I don't even think they opened my passport.

From my personal experience the whole living together without being married is not accepted by some people, in the beginning we bought a couple of rings and just told people outside the family we were married. We haven't had the big Buddhist wedding yet but its coming in the next year or so when my whole family can come to Thailand and attend.

My best advice, ignore the haters and follow your heart.

5. I went to the Thai Embassy in Denmark today and after reading this on their website I did not bring my plane ticket (stupid me):

• Your actual Passport or Travel Document.
- Passport or Travel Document must not expire within 6 months and contain at least ONE completely empty visa page.
• 1 copy of Passport or Travel Document (Picture page)
• 1 application form
- completed and signed by the applicant. Parents can sign for the minor.
• 1 photo
- passport-type photo, size 4 X 5 cm., color, front-view, taken within 6 months
- Photostat or Photocopy will not be accepted
• A copy of a valid and effective marriage certificate
- A copy of Thai passport /or Thai I.D. of the spouse
- A letter from the spouse verifying that the applicant and the spouse are still married and the purpose to visit Thailand.

I were told I would need to show a plane ticket as well, I have one but only a one way ticket as I believe I read here thats all thats needed. Now I am worried I would need a return ticket is that the case?

If not is there any documentation anywhere I can bring along in case they request it?

6. I am not into who's who and who is right or wrong but I know this in the last caouple of months I have heard news now and then about the protests in Bangkok, when the airport were occupied it were on the news here in Denmark almost daily and it had a much more negative impact than the current protests have. If you put last Aprils and the current negative press together it will not even get close to the negative press and impect it had when the airport were occupied.

Moreover, the red shirts made it clear yesterday that they regarded the other side as being "a government tool" created to weaken or discredit them.

Pot ... Kettle ... Black

Edit: Oh, sorry, the red protests are NOT about Thaksin or funded by Thaksin or anything to do with Thaksin, are they?

7. I have seen missionaries several times in Sisaket of all places quite a few of them actually. White shirt and black pants I guess they are Jehovas or Mormons, up to them I guess as long as they don't bother me they can do whatever makes them happy.

8. I received a letter via registered mail (EMS?) at the beginning of this month, it were sent from Sisaket on a Tuesday and I had it on Friday the cost were 72 baht.

This is my only experience with Thai post but I wouldn't send something that wasn't via registered mail.
