  1. My dearest RATcatcher:

Did you really write "Thailand can thank the good old American GIs and vets for kick-starting its tourist industry. Thais were always busy copulating with "working" ladies long before the guys in khaki showed up."?

So explain to me how the Thai sex industry was kick-started by American GI's. Perhaps we can kick-start some new industries since according to you we are so adept at it.

    Do tell.

  2. "safeguarding tourists and residents from both poor drivers and thieves."

Doesn't this describe most of them?

"Countless passengers have gold jewelry snatched from the necks by thieves on motorbikes as they sat in the back of the songthaews. Roaming gangs of transvestite pickpockets also target tourists riding in the back of the baht buses"

C'mon now, they steal no matter where you sit.

  3. UbonJoe,

I think you are way off base with your remark "it's not a real marriage b/c they are not living together." You don't have to be physically together to have a real marriage whether here in LOS or any other country in the world.. Do you know how many westerners are still working in their home country but still supporting their Thai wife and family in Thailand? Many many and many and it's not a reflection that their marriage is illegitimate or on the rocks or a scam. They might make from one to multiple trips home during the year whatever their schedule allows. It's called making money to support the family. You might want to re-phrase your comment...

    CB

I agree with you CB. I take care of her still and we have a child together. Child usually ends that discussion. My boy has a Thai birth certificate, my name is on there as father.

  4. You should get his Thai passport before you travel to Thailand. This is done submitting the paperwork on on of the three consulates or the embassy in DC. That will allow him to enter as Thai citizen. In order for you to have an extension of stay based on being the father, you should complete a divorce first, because Thai immigration give precedence to your marital status. Otherwise you can obtain an extension of stay if older than 50 as very often discussed.

I'm still married. They wouldn't know that unless I tell them.

If getting the Thai Passport is the answer, what is the process to get it while I'm here and she is in Thailand?

  5. My son was born in Thailand in 2007. His mother is Thai, I am American. I naturalized him USA when he was 3 months old. He has no Thai Passport but I do have all birth certificates (originals in Thai). We have been living in USA past 6 years. I would like to return with him to stay.

We would enter both of us with US Passports. Wife and I have been separated.

What would be required for me to stay as his father. I am listed on birth certificate and lawfully married in Thailand. Assuming I don't go the marriage visa route, or retirement visa, what do I need to do to stay just supporting a Thai minor?

Also what do I need to do after entering the country as US citizens for him as he is Thai.

  6. The prevailing wisdom is this:

If you are going to leave your laptop plugged in for long periods of time, it is wise to run the battery to 50 percent and remove it. While you won't have any backup during a power outage, you will salvage the battery life when you do need a battery. You can always buy an inexpensive UPS big enough to power your essential electronics including your laptop.

  7. "Thailand received full score on entertainment and amenity," ---

Thailand gets next to no international shows, has no major sporting events (Takraw doesn't count), hardly any non-thai musicians who aren't a decade past their peak come to play here, has no worthy musuems or libraries or art galleries, fewer recreational venues than other countries..... yet it still gets full score?

I guess if your definition of "entertainment" is limited to shopping, drinkiing in bars and hiring prostitutes.

Sure thereis worse places to live, but seriously maybe some "expats" could enlighten me what constitutes entertainment for old folk in Thailand? Sitting in traffic? Evening Aerobics in the Big C parking lot?

They have aerobics at Big C? Which time?

  8. Adrenaline kicks in after a vehicle pursuit and altercation.

Too bad the drunk chose to endanger all those lives when he chose to drive drunk and resist arrest.

What the drunk did doesn't matter! Absolutely no excuse for a policeman kicking a handcuffed man in the face. In most civilized countries the cop would be suspended without pay pending an investigation and probable criminal assault charges.

But here I imagine he will be back on active duty in a month or so. Very sad.

If only this was true. Here in America police get away with kicking the crap out of men, women and children. They can be in handcuffs too and they will be charged with resisting and assault when they get out of the hospital. Rarely does anything happen to the cop.

  9. I cannot speak for other countries, but if you are an American get your child USA Citizenship immediately. If you die it becomes almost impossible. Give your child a choice. I took mine to the US Embassy as soon as he was able to travel. It doesn't matter if you want to live permanently in Thailand, things change. I know this because things changed for me. My son is a Thai and US Citizen. He currently holds a US Passport but can get his Thai passport if I want.

My son now has choices. He can travel to almost any country, something that he could not do with a Thai Passport.

    Do not wait.

  10. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

I'm in America and my wife is in Thailand. I want to get my 7 year old son's first Thai passport. The Thai website says: - One parent accompanies the child, signs the parental consent form, and submits a notarized consent letter of the non-appearing parent.

My wife is going later today to the USA Embassy to get the USA Form for the same thing notarized. The Form DS-3053 gives permission for me to apply for his USA passport.

Is there a Thai form to do the same thing? The website alludes to notarizing a letter but provides no examples.

Can I copy the intent of the USA form in a letter and have that letter notarized at the USA embassy? My wife will send both documents to me so I can apply for the USA passport and apply for the Thai Passport at the Washington DC Embassy.

I'm attaching the USA version as an example.

  11. Whatever money there was, plus assets were held in the Thai Corporation Earth 666. His oldest daughter now over 18 was the 51 percent shareholder. Control of the corporation and assets were always hers but as a minor Roger controlled her assets. When she turns 18 and no one has ki... eh ... she hasn't bought in a car accident like her mother, well I guess she gets it all.

As far as I knew, Su (her mother) was only the managing director with a small percentage of the company.

So it doesn't matter who was or was not married and where.
