  1. If anyone has spent +/- 10 years in Thailand and has made no bonding with the country -- wife, GF, and family aside -- that they would have no compunction to pick up and leave for and start anew in South/Central American, then that might say more about them than about the Kingdom.

  2. Amazing ... and you call other people gloomy? I am about the most un-gloomy person you might meet ... I guess you never read the Madame deFarge contingent in the ThaiVisa 'Finance' section. as per today's post by the same gent:

Thailand's backwards banking culture has actually worked in favor of stability this time, as these "innovations" which are propelling the West to ruin at lightspeed are not present in Thailand. Inefficiency is actually a good thing during times of crisis. It allows room for improvement while everything else is in chaos.

I find this interesting....can you expand on this?

No ... But you can start here at Post #5: http://www.thaivisa....do-in-10-years/

  3. from Post #20 Almost every farang here that I know is under 50... Great! So you now have lots of like-minded gloomy friends who will then keep you company when THE WAR over scarce resources (that will surely first come to the USA) eventually comes to to Thailand ...

    Goofy talk.

... from an NRA Member I'll take that as a compliment.

  5. I was up at 3AM all 4 days as long as the Thai TV was good enough to show it ... I attended the 1967 Masters all 4 regulation days with Gay Brewer the winner... I mostly stayed at the par 3 16th but wandered around on Par 5 15th if someone was there to hold my place on 15 ... saw Palmer, Nicklaus, Snead, Hogan, Player, etc.

  6. OK here is my back-off statement: First off, I have previously communicated directly with Kuhn Bazmlb in saying that in fact most persons should use a broker for health insurance rather than contact a company directly... it takes time and some understanding of health insurance which I do possess having had assignments with the hospital reinsurance industry in Bermuda... It certainly does not cost any more to use a broker when purchasing insurance and you will have the added support at hospital admission and claim time if so required.

However the 'specialty' medical insurance companies based in Thailand including BUPA and ThaiHealth have invested significant time and financial resources in providing direct on-line and customer care services and I do not believe -- if it is one's preference -- that it is 'stupid' to make use of those services.

As to my suggestion that Kuhn Bazmlb is a broker that was only my unfounded supposition after reading the multiple posts he has made over the last several years as to the many reasons one should use a broker ... but he has never said that he is in fact a broker.

  8. from Post #79 It's an old story but bears reminding that Capone wasn't convicted for murder but for tax evasion.

This one has come up now on several 'Visa' Forum topics... While true, Capone was only convicted because -- as the Feds had been unable to indict or convict Capone on racketeering, murder, and other charges -- they were willing to commit an extraordinary amount of resources to prosecuting the tax evasion case. From Wikipedia

(It was not Elliot Ness but) was Frank J. Wilson who conducted the investigation into Capone's income tax violations that the government decided was more likely to end in a conviction. (IRS Agent) Wilson would spend the next three years gathering information on Capone's financial dealings including tracking down mob accountants and bookkeepers.

So don't give the US Feds or authorities elsewhere a good reason to investigate you.

  9. You need to get out more ! ... maybe but this is the week I do my best not to get out ...' The Bucket of Water Song' has a nice sea-chantey style there with nursery-rhyme type lyrics ... a good effort from the Benny Hill crowd

Given all that there's room for a new one with a bit more sarcasm.

  10. 'Jazzbo' of course is not my real name but it was a nickname bestowed on me almost 40 years ago by a musician much better than I ever became ... I do use my real name on many other websites in the international community wherein if you do not disclose information such as your organization's name and website you will not even have a chance to be taken seriously ... and as a one-man-show amongst large organizations, corporations, and government agencies it is not easy even to even get that chance.

Except for providing specific information as to Visas, insurance, and other mission-critical data requested by other Members, on this Forum I have no expectation to be taken seriously... But if i truly did not care -- as opposed to being troubled by -- what others think, I would see no point in posting at all.

  11. Do They Know It's Songkran After all?

well I'm working on the lyrics principally inspired by the line:

Where the only water flowing is a bitter sting of tears ... Right -- How about that last bucket of water thrown in your face?

... and maybe " ... and your talcum powder smears' ? ... it even rhymes.

    (Chorus):

    Here's to you

Raise your jug for everyone knows

    Here's to them

    Underneath the fire hose..

    Hey! ... work-in-progress

  12. Well if you are not a broker you sure know the talking points ... The post of mine that you quoted was my reply to the quote at #15 that it is Stupid to go direct to a company. I trust then that is not the kind of impartial opinion given of the services available with a direct to insurer engagement that you think helps the marketing of your sponsor.

  13. in that case the broker involvement might at times only complicate the issue.

In the 3 occasions I have been to hospital, I would say the broker is most beneficial, the broker assisted at claim time and resolved all the issues quickly.

Spoken like a true Broker... in my 2 hospital admissions there was no need for assistance at claim time and no issues that needed to be resolved because the Hospital insurance staff and the insurer worked out all essential details before my admissions.
