Ian Forbes is a gentleman and I would never want to suggest otherwise ... Loquacious to a fault maybe, but still a gentleman.
-
There is no question about that, jazzbo, but some of us just don't CARE what others think about us ... so then why the 7000+ ThaiVisa posts in a little over 2 years mostly about yourself and how many people you know if you don't care what anyone thinks about you? IanForbes.Blogspot.com would do just as well...
BTW http://ianforbes.blogspot.com/ On Blogger Since April 2006 Post = 0

so... how many posts in this thread are about WPs for persons working online?
I am tempted to answer that one but in doing so I might be exerting energy or using knowledge so I will pass.
-
People who make nasty comments about persons whom they have never met may indeed be twits or jerks anonymous or otherwise ... People whose writings go into voluminous great detail about their personal affairs, lives, general perspectives, and worldly experiences pseudo or otherwise should EXPECT that those writings -- rather than the person behind them -- are fair game for ridicule or anything else.
-
This from the Ministry of Labour website:
1. Definition
“Alien” means a natural person who is not of Thai nationality; “ Work ” means to engage in work by
exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefits.
So as long as you are not exerting energy or using knowledge you are OK.
-
Some persons just cannot resist the temptation to respond in their own manner to bloviating blowhards.

Try this one at least for 6 months: http://bupa.co.th/bu...ive_detail.aspx
or else go here: http://bupa.co.th/bupa_cms/en/product_comprehensive_detail.aspx

I did for a while go public on my ThaiVisa profile ... all that did was bring out the Right Wing / Libertarian attack dogs as to how corrupt are all USA Non Profits (NGOs) and that the United Nations should be dissolved, etc. so I took down the non-anonymous profile references.
Elsewhere on the Internet with my comments and postings I am quite open as there is no other way to even have a chance to be taken seriously.
Besides, now that I have been advised on ThaiVisa that I am a 'Statist' I must take all pre-cautions
-
I think the OP is actually missing the larger point as the SunBelt listing in post #1 comes from the 'Alien Working Act' and -- as he most likely was born right here on planet Earth -- the Act itself should not apply to him.
-
Fine ... tell it to the judge.
-
In the interpretation of statute or regulation 'context' is always valid ... but in this matter my opinion and even yours is irrelevant; it is what you can convince the responsible Labor Min official that your interpretation is valid.
.. but I would guess they would simply say: You have not entered the Kingdom in any way shape or form to perform any kind of mission or duty whatsoever
-
I do not think anyone whose interpretation of the exemption might count would construe your showing up to teach English to a bunch of 12 year olds a 'duty' or 'mission' in the context of all the other exemptions mentioned by SunBelt.
But fear not -- just as in the The Blues Brothers -- you can tell the local Labor Office official 'This is a holy thing ... I am on a mission from God."
-
Ok ANY: Unless you have some official document from your government or some recognized specialized agency requesting your services you are not performing 'any duty 'or 'any mission' by your presence in Thailand.
-
I would say the fly-in-the-ointment to Kuhn Ap's interesting observation is not in the definition of 'profession' or 'education' but -- especially considering the first 5 exemptions mentioned -- the definition of 'duty or mission' which would suggest one is in the Kingdom at the behest of owns home country government / diplomatic corp or an international specialized-agency NGO.

Ian and I have sort of this George Burns & Gracie Allen routine going:
Burns would say "So how is your Uncle Wilbur, Gracie?" and Allen would then jabber on about the life and loves of Uncle Wilbur for the next 5 minutes while Burns just stood there smoking his ever-present cigar.

#77: Section 16 of the Act doesn't apply to revocation of permanent residence. Go tell them:
There are seven reasons for which permanent residence status in Thailand can be revoked. These reasons are detailed below.
3. Persons who are persona non grata by virtue of the decision of the Interior Minister under Section 16 of the Immigration Act B.E.2522 (1979).
-
"I know lots of ..." do you ever know ONE of anything... I can see how they might enjoy the 7 months of silence.
-
As for myself I don't WANT a permanent relationship with more than the 3 ladies I already have.
Permanent = 5 months per year
-
All of the above is accurate.
So is the WWII admonition: Loose Lips Sink Ships

OP Post #1: Can you find part time (legal, not under the table) work in Thailand with a student visa?
Post #3 Oh I forgot to mention... You and your girlfriend could start teaching English at home. Me and my wife started teaching English at home.
-
Confirmed ... Channel 7 .. 3AM .. bir-DEE
-
First, you have to understand yourself ...
I am an enigma ... guess I'll have to start with second.
-
As 'permanent' residency can be revoked -- and given the stated 'whims' and capriciousness of the Dept. of Immigration -- just how permanent is that... Using the excuse of violation of Section 16 of the Immigration Act they could get rid of just about anyone who rubbed them the wrong way
BTW it says ๖๕,๐๐๐ บาท just like in the English version.

... Besides, here in Thailand no one will laugh at you if you buy a big black Honda or Yamaha cruiser and then put Harley-Davidson accessories and decals all over it.
