    Not sure about all of the references to the Chinese, if they do have to go in the street it may be because in Chinese cities there are many many available, clean and fully equipped toilets and here...

    I did mine via VFS Chiang Mai, I am working from memory but I thought the form said UK would not argue as I may be wrong although confidence high

    Having just done my passport I seem to recall that the monies had to be paid using a UK card in sterling.

    Can't answer re the transit and the longer flight to UK but I can add that I think China Eastern are a decent airline, yes they serve booze, food good as well I think. Shanghai ultra modern airport, doubt you would have a problem there unless security take a dislike to something in your hand luggage.
