Agree the total inaction to the burning problem and the any excuse will do is a problem, early January and the air is already unhealthy here in Chiang Mai. I am hoping it doesn't get to last years levels but who knows.
Those that burn seem not to be the ones effected but the impact of the pollution financially and finances seem to be the only thing that matter in Thailand. Health? Not our problem...

I think they are doing a wonderful job of increasing the value of the Thai Baht, a true hub of strong currencies.

This seems to say every on average each and every tourist has 10 billable hospital visits when they come to the country that is not paid. Plus one there are hospital visits from those that do pay. No wonder the hospitals are so busy.

I suspect the Singapore airshow the weekend before may be a little more spectacular.

I seem to recall he did not support the fellow ASEAN dispute with China over the sea area.

151 cancelled or rescheduled flights. Assuming 150 persons per flight means approximately 22,000 passengers inconvenienced so a few traditionalists can launch a flaming object into the skies. This should certainly enhance the tourism numbers!
yes think of the money, not the tradition or if the 22,000 visitors that wont get to see the tradition. ????

Here is a suggestion;
Reduce or eliminate the sums of Thai Baht required to be deposited in Thai banks to qualify for visa and visa extensions.
Make residency more attainable to those that wish to do it.
Imagine just how much currency is in the system for these deposits.

So basically he wants then to stop breaking the regulations...

The main thing is that (if enforced) the 'mushroom farmers' can't blame the that the forest fires are caused by lanterns.
Most of the pollution we seem to get is not around Loy Krathong, do the fires the lanterns cause smoulder for months before bursting into flames?????

After a year or 2 of Loy Krathong, I can't recall reports of all these fires the lanterns cause, not indeed the aircraft that have fallen from the sky although as around Chiang Mai aircraft don't fly after 7 pm on Loy Krathong days so that may help and I am sure the farmers would have been straight to the authorities to claim for all of the cows who have dies due to eating lanterns.
Not that this ban is restricted to Thailand, I hear the UK is not very keen on lanterns either.
mmm.

one-megawatt power plant
If I understand this right this is a small power plant to generate local power say for 500 houses which will operate pretty conventionally burning agricultural produce to produce the power.
Interesting, I wondered if they studied this method v solar or did they decide the local economy would benefit more by buying the fuel from the customers.
Would be interested in how this goes.
