A vote for Trump is a vote for Putin / Orban / Kim Jong Un
spidermike007 replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
And absolutely brilliant orator who can hold a train of thought for a moments at a time, a man of such dignity and grace, compared to the scam artist, convicted felon huckster. And very highly regarded around the world, instead of Huge Don, who is held in great contempt. -
Some people just don't understand how powerful words are, there's no question that when Trump utters absolute foolishness and incites his devotees toward madness, that all kinds of problems are going to take place. There's no question that this goombah was complicit, there's no question that he incited his followers, there is no question that he has blood on his hands. Lock him up.

Just imagine the potential downfall of Thai society if they don't fix this problem, can you even conceive of the kind of problems Thailand could face if more Laos people worked here? Wow, such a horror. They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats, they're taking your pets. Those damn immigrants.

Considering the fact that I do not have a fortune, I will stay. There are many issues to consider. Going back to the US is not an option. I would not want to live there now, unless I was being paid over a million dollars a year, and then I would only do it for 3 years, and then leave. For me, it is about quality of life, and my level of fulfillment on a daily basis, which I seem to have here in abundance. A big factor here, is the relatively light hearted attitude of the people. You just do not find that in the US, where most seem bitter, disenchanted, unfulfilled, and heavy hearted. This is an entirely subjective topic, of course. But some of us live very good lives here. Some of us have been fortunate enough to find an outstanding woman, who is delightful to be around, on a daily basis, always has our back, and is fun, smart, and lovely. For me, that likelihood of finding that back in the US, would be very low. So, that is a big factor for me. The second factor is just the quality of life. Sure, I miss alot of the culture back home. The theatre, independent film (which I can download here with no issues at all, and a super fast 1 gbps fiber optic connection, at under 700 baht per month!), stand up comedy, live jazz, etc. But I have a lovely home that I rent, for about 10% of what I would pay in California, I live very well on an income which is not huge, have access to great health care, at a tiny fraction of what it costs in the US, and do not have to put up with alot of the aggravation that I had to when I lived back there. Frankly I have given it some thought, and I really don't think that I have a realistic alternative to Thailand.

Expats in Thailand urged not to worry about negative income tax
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The authorities should probe their own recruitment methods and why money is required to purchase a promotion and merit is never a consideration. Then they should prove the administrator and do the same. Then they should probe customs, immigration, all tambon, state and federal recruitment. It is all the same. Filthy from top to bottom. No promotions without payment. Corruption, at all levels. A completely broken system. Of course this is just a silly dream, everybody's making so much money with this bizarre patronage system, when hundreds of thousands of baht are being paid for a low position and millions are being paid for a high position. The fortunes that are being made and the illegal and illicit funds that are being collected are astonishing and shameful.- 120 replies

Trump is the weakest little bit** in America. This man has no shame. It's just not fair, don't they know who I am? Don't they know how great I am? Don't they know that I am the most incredible human being on the planet? Don't they realize I'm the smartest guy in America? Don't they know how handsome I am? I'm am so confused, flustered, unhappy and bitter, and I don't understand why everyone doesn't love me. I realize I am a hate filled man. Maybe that is part of it. But, it hurts my brain to think too deeply. Not in my nature.

It's so easy to try to dumb down this equation and blame Trump supporters for not being smart enough, but there's so many reasons why one may vote for Trump over Harris. I say that as a centrist democrat. I have a lot of friends and family that are conservative, they're going to be building for Trump, many of them don't like him nor do they respect him, but they like his policies and they relate to the issues. And many of them are very smart and very successful. So trying to blame one party or the other for being dumb, extremist, liberal, Marxist, communist, and all the other juvenile names that are being bandied around, is just not smart, nor conducive to intelligent discourse.

Thai PM Faces Allegations of Media Freedom Breach

She was always the wrong person for the job. My guess are only two reasons she got the job, one is her age, they were hoping that she could pander to the youth, and two is her daddy. Zero qualifications. -

Just get rid of corruption and there will be more than enough money to go around, start by jailing government officials, police, customs and immigration creeps, who are collecting fees for hiring. It is a disgusting practice, is the polar opposite of a meritocracy, and it needs to be abolished. Having to pay for your position is deplorable. Lock them up.- 120 replies

You left out all the good stuff. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W. look smart and articulate. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws - he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: 'My God… what… have… I… created? Unappealing, unattractive, idiotic, incompetent, hateful, hurtful, abrasive, rude, blowhard, liar, cheater, thief, infantile, failure, loser, fraud, sexual abuser, incestuous, tax cheat, insurrectionist, un-American, dictator-loving dictator wannabe, out of control, sociopathic, convicted felon, toxic narcissist & brutish A-hole. Everything about the con-man referred to as Trump is unlikeable. He's everything wrong with the human animal, all stuffed into one specimen. -

Well the sad reality is that they not only like to be above the law, but they are above the law. Even somebody with a relatively modest fortune of say 200 million baht is above the law in Thailand. So when you're talking about centi millionaires, or billionaires they essentially own the police and the government. -

You know you're raising interesting point. I'm not necessarily a supporter of vigilanticism per se, but I do think that when the law and the authorities do not take matters into their own hands, and act when action is needed, perhaps there are occasions when the citizens should and could rise up and take action themselves. -

It seems like we can consistently count on you to make rather silly statements. Can you honestly say that you've never had a cross a road in Thailand, and you would only do it with an SUV? At that point where are you going to park? -

It is a very odd phenomena, some Thais seem to be gentle and kind, and then they get behind a wheel and it is truly Jeckyl and Hyde. -

I really find it rather amusing when conservatives refer to Democrats as Marxist, and refer to the media as having a Marxist agenda. I don't know if you've ever studied Marxism, but Trump is taking a page from their playbook with his spreading of propaganda, fake information, lies and slandert. That is direct from Marxism 101. Trump is a Marxist. -
Why are most movies released post-2000 unwatchable?
spidermike007 replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Entertainment
I think there is still some very good foreign films and independent films, but very few big Hollywood productions have been great films. They're going with very formulaic junk, amusement park rides as Scorsese would say, and it seems like they're trying to appeal to them 8 to 18 crowd. The quality of writing has definitely gone downhill and they are green lighting stuff that has absolutely no plausibility, and requires adults to take huge leaps of faith. Plus there's way too much animation and Marvel type drivel out there. -
MP Denies Speeding in Parliament Car Park Collision

He sounds like a fairly typical Thai politician, relatively modest when it comes to intellect, and in absolute denial when it comes to truth, and totally lacking in morality and integrity. -
I think it's a reasonably accurate portrayal based upon the trailers that I've seen so far. I was in commercial real estate in New York during the 1980s and I know many people who had direct dealings with Trump, and they say that's about who he is. He's a numbskull, he's a nitwit, he's a very ignorant man, he's not particularly smart, he is a huckster, and he's spectacularly arrogant. Worst of all he's an unbelievable cheapskate, the guys that did deals with him said that he absolutely refused to leave $1 on the table, that's just who he is.

I tend to agree with what you're saying, there's no question that Trump loves dictators and despots, he's pretty much come out and said so in public. He seems to have a disdain for democracy and the Democratic process, and he is potentially a very dangerous man. There's no way to know just how far he would go if he was given a long enough leash, his intentions are the opposite of righteous and noble. -

There must be a deterrent, there must be a reason for people to stop beyond courtesy, beyond respect, beyond doing it because it's the right thing to do. There has to be a threat of huge fines, or prison time, or confiscation of the vehicle. Somebody needs to step up and take charge and take care of this problem, or it will simply continue for decades into the future.- 176 replies
