When I'm carrying a significant amount of money or valuables, I lock them in my luggage. It's very inconspicuous, if someone inspects the luggage they'll see a lock on it and they tend to leave it alone. I've been doing this for well over 20 years in various cities around the world and I've never had anyone tamper with my luggage. I feel much safer doing this then leaving it in the hotel safe which is likely much more vulnerable.

Then I would definitely leave it in the hotel safe, or better yet leave it home. Do without it for a couple weeks, there's no reason to invite temptation.
