Pol Gen Torsak to become Thailand’s next top cop
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
He was appointed as the chief of the Immigration Bureau in September 2018 and removed from his post in 2019 for unclear reasons. Well, the reasons were his constant, bombastic, hostile, obnoxious, and ignorant statements about foreigners. He was an embarrassment to even the Prayuth administration. And he was deposed into oblivion for years. He somehow resurfaced as a deputy national police chief. And continued his propensity for hogging the spotlight he adores. I never bought into his clean cop PR nonsense. Did you forget about his history? -
New public health minister walks back ‘recreational’ cannabis

Obviously a very conservative organization that put that one together! There are some effects, no doubt. All drugs have some effects. But, this study over exaggerates to a reefer madness degree. And sometimes the loss of IQ points is a plus. Some of the most disturbed people I have ever known, are some of the most brilliant. As they as fond of saying here, don't think so much. -
It is a real statement when a man admits he is a tik toker. Says alot about the man, and none are things to be proud of. What does a real man do in this circumstance? He walks to the next taxi, and finds one willing to use a meter. What does an undeveloped Gen Z guy do? He makes a big deal out of nothing, and makes a fool out of himself, as usual. Welcome to the disintegration of society, and civilization.

Loss of memory. Loss of ambition. What are the side effects of alcohol? Cirrhosis of the liver. Heart problems. Lung issues. Brain damage. Killing people on the roads. Shall I go on? -

Thailand is somewhere between a developing country, and the 3rd world. And many have not driven for long, so the lack of skills combined with a lack of common sense can be lethal. -

Nowhere else in the world have I seen people consistency take the kinds of chances and risks in the road, that they take here, with their families in the car. Nowhere. When they could have waited four seconds to make the uturn or turn onto the highway, and have a completely clear path, they instead choose to take a tremendous risk. It is beyond comprehension. I see it all the time. My eyes do not lie to me. This rarely ever happens to me in the US. The only way to survive here on the road, is to be patient, have eyes in the back of your head, drive with caution, and always, and I mean always watch out of the other guy. Chances are, he does not have much driving skill, nor patience, nor reason, nor common sense. You cannot be too careful on the road here. Especially considering that the toy police offer no traffic safety, prevention, enforcement of the law, or concern toward the prosecution of very reckless drivers. Those of us with driving skill, and a strong desire for not only survival, but the avoidance of terrible injury, are constantly scanning the road, in front of us, beside us, and behind us. There are an exceptionally high number of reckless fools on these roads, and it is the only way to preserve our lives, and those of our families, and friends, who may be driving with us, and depending on us. And cars must yield to trucks, motorbikes must yield to cars, and bicyclists are beyond invisible. -
UK economy ‘will shrink for two years as eurozone and US grow’
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
They are giving the US far too much credit. A son of a friend of mine works for a large investment bank in Texas. They have been laying alot of people off, anticipating a major recession and economic correction. It is coming and forget about a soft landing. Many retailers in the US are hurting. Consumer confidence is very low. And both the real estate market and the stock market will drop significantly in the next two years or so. Many non mainstream experts are predicting this. -
So far, he has shown us little, other than a big smile. His rebate program and a plan for a digital wallet is not going to be much of a boost for a sagging economy, that Prayuth nearly destroyed. The economy is in trouble here. Nobody knows how high real unemployment still is. When it comes to the real estate sector, especially condos, demand is way down. The Chinese market is nearly gone, some Russians are buying, but who else? And the long term Western tourists are gone too. So, who does that leave? Wealthy Thais, many of whom see the market collapsing, and would rather wait and see how all of this shakes out, and ex-pats, many of whom are smart enough to be shopping for bargains right now, or putting their money elsewhere. Perhaps if the baht drops to 50 to a dollar, the market could get a boost. Maybe selling condos was not a good prerequisite to lead a nation out of the abyss? Maybe they should have stuck with the man who was actually elected?

Excellent news. Though a general is never the ideal selection for any job, glad the joke was denied. I never bought into his horse and pony show. He jogged the limelight, and the people he went after were rarely convicted. Plus he demonstrated how xenophobic he was while leading immigration. I never understood why he was appointed as a deputy national police chief, after his disastrous performance at immigration and his subsequent banishment. I only hope that he is banished permanently this time. Best to put this toxic horse out to pasture. -
Trump liable for fraud, judge finds in New York civil case

I hope and I pray he gets locked up. Don't forget. He has already spent his entire career in court. He defrauded thousands of small contractors. He was involved in over 3,000 lawsuits, at the time he became president. Hopefully they will finally put an end to the orange madness. -

While I agree totally, I am simply questioning if this line of judicial attack will end up having the ultimate and desired result. They got Capone on tax evasion, why not the Don? -

Pot should be legal worldwide. It harms nobody, unless you count poor memory and lack of ambition as great offenses against the nation. Illegal by who's definition? A corrupt, illegal government that is completely out of step with a changing world? Pot does little harm to anyone. The biggest risk is the the user will lose his ambition. Compared to alcohol the detriment to society is minuscule. Only completely backwards, and morally bankrupt officials continue to pursue these draconian convictions. The only reason why ganga will become illegal in Thailand again, is to hand back the multi billion baht franchise to the RTP. That is it. It ends there. This has nothing whatsoever to do with morality or character development, mental health, nor the few kids who end up smoking too much. So what? And to lump a pot smoker into the same category as a heroin addict is just plain old ridiculous and ignorant of the facts.- 131 replies

Navigating Thailand Towards the New Horizon
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand should be referred to as a 3rd world nation. Granted, the telecom infrastructure is very good. And public transport options in Bangkok are very good. But, beyond that, what would be 1st world about the place? 1. No high speed rail transport. 2. No ability to hire a helicopter for quick transport. 3. Massively over clogged highways, due to the lack of planning, and inability to find any alternative to truck transport of cargo. 4. A minimum number of well placed regional airports, and many like Hua Hin, which are barely used at all. 5. Very poor environmental safeguards. Air, land and sea are all abused and nothing is being done to improve that. Less than zero. 6. A terrible record when it comes to tackling human trafficking, slave trading, fishing industry violations, and treatment of migrant workers. 7. A horrific and totally ineffective job of battling corruption. A highly corrupt police, customs, immigration, and border patrol. 8. A health ministry which was incapable of responding to a pandemic. 9. A horrible, unjust, nonsensical, and prohibitive tariff system, especially as it applies to many foreign parts, products, and equipment. 10. A government that does not respect democracy, the free press, the right of the people to protest or criticize, and other issues. One could go on all day. -
Navigating Thailand Towards the New Horizon

I hate to rain on their parade, but realistically speaking, there is room for improvement, when it comes to the foreign investment angle. Though that is not something the goons like to talk about. Thailand ranks 131st in freedom of speech, 127th in freedom of assembly, 114th in governance, 136th in institutional trust, 102nd in executive constraints, 84th in contract enforcement, 84th in adult skills, 116th in emissions, 118th in the protection of forests, land and soil, 82nd in restrictions on international investment, according to the The 2023 Legatum Prosperity Index? Thailand’s economic freedom score is 60.6, making its economy the 80th freest in the 2023 Index. The trade-weighted average tariff rate is 7.1 percent, but onerous nontariff barriers add to the cost of trade. Although foreign direct investment is officially welcome, the overall investment frameworks lacks efficiency and transparency. https://www.heritage.org/index/country/thailand The one principal here, that they have still not come to grips with, is that Thailand needs the world, 100x more than the world needs Thailand. Covid could have been a great opportunity for a reset. There is nothing to suggest anything like that happened, to address the dozen or so major problems what have existed for a decade or longer. If anything, Thailand is moving backwards, from being the tiger of SE Asia, which was once in 22nd place worldwide, to the current position of to bring a pathetic, sickly, anemic alley cat, begging for scraps. https://docs.prosperity.com/3716/7689/5368/Thailand_2023_Picountryprofile.pdf -
This is not a witch hunt, and there is nothing prestigious about his career. When he was chief of immigration, he made a constant fool of himself, by his ridiculous xenophobic rants. Recently, as deputy national police chief, he hogged the spotlight, with his fake crime buster image. I consider all the PR, all the grandstanding, all the hogging of the limelight, the nonstop press conferences, statements, declarations, and proclamations and crackdowns to be window dressing, meant to deceive the most naive among us. Think about how many of the guys he went after. Then research how many were actually convicted and jailed. Then consider the fact that he was one of the top cops in a land where cops are known to be crooked. The RTP at it's inception seems to have been created with a status quo from the government. We will NOT pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise, and the limit of your income is based solely on your own creativity and initiative, and you will always be protected. Is that not the case? Statistically, what are the odds the biggest joke was the exception? Vegas would likely put it at well under 1%.

Now, this is the heart of getting this lifetime crime lord locked up. In my opinion, they are pursuing the wrong line of attack. Nailing him for the Stormy thing seems lightweight. Even the election stuff, and the insurrection, is questionable. I think it is evidence that they are not sincere about putting this crime lord away. If they were, they would go after him for bank fraud or tax fraud. No doubt he is guilty of many counts. And no doubt those charges would not only stick, they would likely result in this sad mans spending many of his remaining years in prison. But, I don't think there is political will to lock up an ex president. But, I sure hope I am wrong. Lock him up. He surely deserves to spend the rest of his pathetic life in prison. -
Phuket tops list as World’s Most Overcrowded tourist destination
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Not true. Bali beats Phuket by miles. Last time I was there it was beyond oppressive. Never again. Phuket by comparison is very moderate. However, it is over rated, and underwhelming. I was recently there, and have no need to ever go back. The taxi situation is ridiculous, alot of the food is over priced, the selection of women for a single man is some of the worst anywhere in Thailand, and the nightlife is also some of the worst in Thailand. Bangla is a horrific nightmare. Far worse than Disneyworld.
