  2. well... I recently sold a property and have approx. 5m or so in cash - I was looking at Bangkok Banks Mutual 'Infrastructure' Fund as I can't see Utilities etc. failing over the Medium Term - I guess I'm a Medium to High Risk investor - splitting my funds 50/50. Aiming for as close to 10% as I can get.

If you are aiming for 10% returns, dont invest in utility companies, these are perhaps the most stable of stocks i.e. they dont tend to increase or decrease much.

My advice- be prepared to trade frequently- weekly or so. Get a list of the top 20 SET growth stock companies then monitor them daily and buy those with RSIs @30-35 and positive buy MACD signals- then be prepared to sell them in 1-3 weeks taking the profit. This is my basic strategy. But be warned the temptation is too hold onto a stock once its increased 7-8% hoping for more returns- in every case where i have done that the stock has dropped down to - XX% within a few weeks and i have ended up having to hold it for months until its price recovers. So make sure you sell when you hit @7-8% return using this technical analysis strategy.

thanks - I am used to trading in Europe but how to go about it here?

  3. ecause 90 day reporting can be done easily by post and they really want to have a look at anyone actually turning up in person to do it...

Interesting guess, but I'd quite like to hear the reasons that the chief of immigration gave to Raindancer.

It doesn't make sense, anyone can send it in for you (though they are not supposed to), so why can't anyone take it in for you?

Anyone can take it in for you!!!! But that is not the topic in question...The topic is about the reasons why it is unlikely that you will be unable to renew by online for 90 day reporting.

no it's not- the topic was why they deduct days if you report early cool.gif

  4. i was on a nearby street. the thai drivers wont even move to let the fire departmant through to help. i wonder if maybe the people would move over for fire and ambulances(like everywhere else in the world) their lives would have been saved . .

i have seen this many, many times - drivers not moving for ambulances etc. very sad reflection on Thai selfishness - may she and the kids RIP

  5. The automatic levels are only changed once when the required numbers of posts are reached. After the first few levels members can set their own member description (this is how UG changed his to 'Unwanted Member,' apparently a self-description) and this supercedes the system's labels.

ahhhh I get it - confusing though!

  6. but... the point is.... they are supposed to do it from end of 90 period not from when you 'report' the whole thing is stupid anyway

    The TM47 says this:

"NOTICE: ALIEN MUST NOTIFY THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE EVERY 90 DAYS"

So, if you report a few days before the actual 90 days your next notification is in 90 days. Been standard procedure for years.

Think of the number of mistakes that would happen if they had to change the date stamp for every reportee in a day. And of course, the amount of wasted time as they try and figure out 90 days for every applicant and change the stamp. :D

well that is a point - queues can be long enough as it is - I only mention it as they have actually done that for me in the past (alter the date stamp) anyway no more early reporting!

any news on that rumour we can do it over the net? think of the staff hours saved their end - it's got to make sense to scrap the silly idea or have it done on the net

Yea I 'get it' but I think many of the web sites advise that it's from the 90 days expiry - not from reporting... anyhow TIT

  8. I did mine about 1:30 this afternoon. It took a little less than 10 minutes. I was 2 days late and got 90 days from today.

you miss the point Dude - I did it early and lost 10 days because they set the date from the day I reported not the date my 90 day reporting ran out

Actually, I was responding to these comments:

To avoid the crowd just avoid Mondays ,Fridays and the days, before and after, public holidays.

Not to mention Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is almost alwaays crowded these days. :(

that's cool cool.gif but... my thread was more about the 'why's (if there are any here) about me losing days - and if it was prevalent

  9. They always have stamped mine and others I have seen 90 days from the day of reporting.

I inquired about it and asked them to adjust, they said they undertood and agreed, but then stamped it 90 days from that date anyhow. :whistling:

So now I go on that date or within a few days after, during the 7 day grace period.

Yes it could be a slight risk if asked for the passport and report and don't have it current.

By mail in is iffy for the date you will get. Usually 90 days from when they look at it and stamp it.

but... the point is.... they are supposed to do it from end of 90 period not from when you 'report' the whole thing is stupid anyway

  11. I have noticed that I lose days if I report early - but I understood the Regs say it counts from when my current 90 days expires? they seem to have the stamp set at 90 days from that particualt day and don't alter it - anyone else had that? it's bad enough reporting but to lose 10 days is even worse!

  12. The amount sending overseas without documents on one day was 1000 us dollars (in Thai Baht) , this maybe changed as one other poster said maximum 20 k.

Each amount bigger then this needs a document declaring sourse of income with supporting documents.

Most banks you can down load this form from there website.

so you transfer from Baht into Dollars then transfer 20k? I guess it's possible just to go to an exchange and transfer from Baht to GBP or USD and walk out with it OR send by Western Union but I really wanted it in my UK bank account.

  13. http://www.bangkokba...ard%20faqs.aspx

As with all things in Thailand, you will only know how it is going to affect you by going to the bank and asking the person who will do the transfer. Asking around TV and you will generally get a mix of answers, often such as "five years ago I.....", or "I think my friend did....".

I have transferred up to around 500,000 out of my account with no problems. But this was from my account at the local BBK, I have known the manager for years and the money clearly originally arrived by SWIFT from abroad. But I once had a problem at the SCB because the clerk wanted to insist that the outward transfer went to exactly the same account that the inward transfer came from, bullshit, but that is what you have to deal with at times.

Thanks - I just assumed there was a 'rule' that might have said 'anything over ********** requires proof of transfer' and then I might have been able to transfer under that in lumps.

  14. I can't see any scenario where rates rise in USA. The govt is far too much in debt, and higher interest payments will cause immediate bankruptcy. That is why gold can only go up, up and up until there is a collapse eventually. Is there something wrong with this analysis?

wrong is that you don't tell us the exact date of the gold collapse.

Well actually a collapse of gold implies a rise/repair of all currencies it is measured in. I would be more interested in where that is coming from & of course when would be nice too :D

rising real interest rates might not lead to a gold collapse but will weaken it considerably.

any clues as to 'when'? it surely cannot maintain this 1400+ for long? if a correction is coming when and how much? down to 1200 something?
