  1. Bistro 33 on Soi 33 also has an all you can eat on Sundays and all the beer, and wine you can drink from 11 until 3pm.

Free car parking in the grounds and garden setting, lovely place to take the missus.

  2. Nice, draw your conclusions then design a survey that supports it. May I suggest adding a few other questions? GDP per person, literacy rate, live expectancy, vague things like freedom of speech and minimal corruption?

I didn't draw conclusions, Bruce. Just listed publicly available facts then asked you to draw conclusions. Indeed, I had listed GDP per person, but deleted it when it would have made the country easily identifiable. Sorry if you're stumped without it.

But you did kindly answer the other question I posed, to wit, what other factors contribute to status. Well done!

P.S. Please tell me a place on earth with "minimal" corruption and where I might source that statistic.

    Try researching transparency international.

  3. The info given is totally correct whatever Wikiwonker says

When will the Jews be implicated?

What a couple of wanke_rs, OP and his clone.

The Federal reserve of the USA is a private bank and private banks exist to make profit.

In England the Bank of England has special privilege over every other type of business in that the shareholders identity,s are kept secret by law, all other businesses have to register there details at Company's house.

The Bank of England was nationalised in 1946 and is wholly owned by Her Majesty's Government.

    Wrong!

The Bank of England act of 1946, which "nationalised" the bank, said act still had private shareholders and used the new act to tighten the identity of whoever held shares in it previously to 1946 (it was a secret then and it is a secret now).

After 1946 the identity's of the share holders were then protected by government guarantee.

    Just ask a simple question?

Why does the BoE need a law to conceal the identity of its shareholders (that do exist)?

  4. Here's FactCheck.org opinion on Federal Reserve Bank Ownership: Link

    Quote from the article-

"The member banks must by law invest 3 percent of their capital as stock in the Reserve Banks, and they cannot sell or trade their stock or even use that stock as collateral to borrow money. They do receive dividends of 6 percent per year from the Reserve Banks and get to elect each Reserve Bank’s board of directors."

    There you go.

I dont believe the private Banks would invest 3% of their capital for a 6 % return (i bet the 6% is guaranteed as well?), however the influence of the voting patterns of the Directors will be worth more than that to them...its called buying influence.

  5. I am happy to read people are getting awake. Of course there are always people who think wiki is not being fed by the ultra rich.

There are happily also people who do.

    Yes agree,

What makes my blood boil is the total unaccountability of politicians to borrow money from these private banks and then ask you and generations to come as tax payers to pay the government loans AND the interest on top back??

Dont you think there is something odd in both set ups?

I think the OP is asking if the Bank of Thailand is a private bank?

  7. I walked from the roundabout turning left and i didn't see the boardwalk. I walked to the fishing boat area and the beach was nothing like the photo

What I would do is walk out to Bangsean waterfront and try to find the building in the distance in the photograph with the angled rooftop.

Once you have identified that building it should be easy to use that as a reference point to find your board walk?

...if you like walking that is (-:

  8. The little circular shaped JBL speakers that sell for 8-12k in Thailand (less online) have great sound. I use one myself...can also be used as external notebook speaker. Can also charge and sync with iTunes. Definitely recommend.

    Hi FarangBuddha,

Can you provide me with the name or model number of the circular JBL speakers you mention.

I will go check them out.

    Thanks for the recommendation.

  9. I will tell you sweet secret:

you do not need any ipod dock station!

Do you have any stereo set in your house? If you like it - then it will do.

All you need is - audio cable to connect headphone socket in ipod to audio input in your stereo.

It will play very well!Audio input in your stereo can be called "AUX" or "Line-In" or "Audio-In".

cable will cost you - 100Baht.Better look for it - out of Apple shop, there - it is minimum 300B-500B.

    you can try even today.

Of course some audio purists will tell you, that such connection is not perfect, because what you feed to your

stereo was already amplified and is degraded. But audio signal from ipod is quite good and 95% -

you will not notice any loss of quality.

However to be perfect, just in case you have golden ears, you can do it in perfect way.

you have to buy special attachment called:"ipod line-out dock cable" known simply as " ipod LOD cable".

Using ipod LOD you will connect "line-out" signal from ipod to "line - in" socket in your stereo and connection will be perfect.

You can buy this thing in few shops, easy - from Amazon, where you can see picture of it next to price:5(five)-10(ten)US$,do not pay more.

I know 2 shops in BKK where they sell this cable.

Adventage of this solution over regular ipod dock station is,that you have ipod on cable, which can be 2-3 meters long,

so you can control it from your hand.it is not stucked anywhere.

Regular ipod station makes more sense only, when it gives remote control.

What you save - spend on good earphones(IEM=in ear monitor),good headphones(50-100$ at least) or good stereo set,

if you do not own one already.Earphones which come with ipod is white, cheap crap(but 95% of ipod users do not buy better one)

Producers of ipod docks must pay hefty licence fee to Apple, but their devices are simply - ordinary stereo sets with LOD(5$).

It should cost 5$ more, they cost 100-200$ more.

    Have you got my point?

I adviced you JVC bazooka, because I own one and I like it,they used to sell them in Thailand, they are very good on their own.

Do you have so much music in collection, that it will fill 160G in ipod Classic?

    Hi Babysun,

I appreciate your tip and if I did have a stereo in my place I would definitely use your suggstion, unfortunetely I dont have any type of music appliance/device.

Do you know where in Bangkok where they sell the JVC bazooka?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    best regards

  10. Thanks for the replies.

I got my hands on a Bose at an apple store, early 15,000 baht but I wouldnt call it portable, it was surprisingly heavy.

The JVC Torpedo reminds me of a small ghetto blaster, I was looking for something a bit more classy looking for my room, although I can see it would have its attractions if you took it away on weekends/holidays.

    Any other recommendations out there?

  11. Hi Guys,

    As the title says.

I have finally decided to buy an iPod classisc to store and listen to music.

My problem is I want to also purchase a combined portable speaker/docking station for the iPod for when I come home from work so I can just dock the iPod and ramp up the volume in my condo.

Problem is I see lots of good reviews on the internet I dont know which one to go for.

My budget would be between 5,000 to 15,000 Baht.

Any of you Guys can offer any experience / recommendations to my dilema?

Which in your opinion is the best docking/ speaker station?

    best regards

  12. The law is the law, if you do something against the law, than you broke the law, and should suffer the results. If you do not like the law change it. Just because you are a journalist, does not give you the right to break the law. Just because some people do not like the government, does not give them the right to set fire to Bangkok.

......and if the law is wrong, unjust or protects vested interests?

I suppose you cant see anything wrong in goverrnments imposing Identity Cards on its population?

  13. Dear Sunbelt Asia,

I have been approached by 2 different Thai companys for proposed direct employment, both can employ me part time and meet all the Thai regulations, minimum 50,000 Baht salary for Falang etc etc.

    Questions?

What would be the best way forward to take advantage of this situation?

Can I as a Falang have one work permit for one company and one work permit with the other?

    FYI,

They both dont wish me to set up a Thai company and invoice them as a seperate business entity, rather pay me as part time direct employee for 2 weeks each every month.

    Is this possible?

    Advantages and disadvantages?

    best regards

  14. Air rifles can be found at the very bottom of China town in a number of shops in an old 80's mall called THE OLD SIAM you'll have to pronounce it to the taxi driver deo see amm to get him to understand, or he'll take you to Siam Square. These are proper fancy gun/hunting shops.

Would appreciate it if you would please spell out these directions a bit more - for a novice to Bangkok.

Secondly, re watches. I'd once bought an excellent, let's call it ersatz brand, watch in Pattaya. It cast me about 2000 bht 5 years ago and is still going strong. The seller said it was a 'high quality' ersatz brand with a korean mechanism. Does anyone know a reliable such seller in Bangkok?

I second that re the air rifles (thats if they are real pellet guns?).

Clearer directions or a map in English would be great.

    best regards

  15. Dear All,

We are a Thai registered limited Technical Consultancy.

Out of the blue one regular customer has suddenly started paying our invoices with the 3% with holding tax taken out?

    Questions?

Is a Technical Consultancy liable for the 3% with holding tax as I was under the impression it was for "Service" companies, e.g the company who maintains and "services" your air conditioning?

What criteria would a customers accounts department refer to when deciding which company,s to apply the 3% with holding tax?

    best regards

  16. Ask for the Ausiie guy Simon the meat department manager at Central Food Hall Chidlom...he is knowledgable, a no nonsence straight talking sort of guy and will even tell you if the meat is no up to parr.

  17. Hi All,

I tried posting this question in another forum but did not get any answers!

If I conduct technical training in Thailand working for a Thai company , I am a westerner with a work permit), can the client (the receiver of the training) claim the costs of the training back through a tax allowance/deduction?

If the answer is yes how much, 50%, 100%?

    Thanks & best regards.
