  1. I swear to God, literally nothing surprises me anymore. Tuk Tuk drivers just forced out a Colonel of the RTP. <deleted> is wrong with this place? Every time I see a story involving these monkeys, I just have to laugh at the sad thought this place has become. There is no hope.

huge lost of face to the colonel and even more so the orders and direction coming from surat thani that was reported before to clean up these scumbags and the phuket west coast s**thole.

one would hope with this lost of face that a police unit with backing comes down from bkk and does it. now that would be great news cheered on.

Correct - he was a Colonel and Patong Police Chief ( not a "corporal" as someone suggested ).

Now if they can fine all the tuk tuks and taxis for illegal parking that would be a bonus - yeah right.

This "protecting village territoritial rights" on Phuket is all BS - most tuk tuk/taxi drivers are not from Phuket - that's why they don't know where to take you.

  2. Those individuals, groups, parties who boycotted the 2 Feb 2014 election has no legal right to petition for the invalidation of election results.

The election was called, planned nationwide according to the 2007 constitution election law that was amended by DEM led government.

Had anyone petitioned to the court that the election was unconstitutional before the election?

Since voting is complusory, a person who fails to vote without explanation will lose his or her right to file any objection to the MP election and senatorial selection. He or she will also lose the right to apply for candidacy for national and local elections and to be nominated for the senatorial selection. At the same time, that person will not be allowed to apply for a position as a subdistrict headman and village headman. These rights will be given back to a voter when he or she votes in the next election, at whatever level. In order to exercise their voting rights, voters must bring along their citizen identification cards or other official cards with a photo and the ID number of the card holder. A person intentionally destroying a ballot paper will be subject to a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up 20,000 baht, or both. These penalties may also include a revocation of voting rights for five years, by a court’s order.

  3. Phone my friend, Joanne Varin, at the Visa Section, in the Royal Thai Embassy. She will send all information and forms by e-mail. You will have to obtain a police security clearance (about CAD25), do that at your local police station not at the RCMP, a medical clearance, a bank statement, supply three copies of the application, supply 3 copies of the Additional Information Form, copy of return ticket, 2 photographs, and a money order or bank draft (about CAD190), passport, and a copy of your Canadian Citizenship if you are a naturised citizen. Some of the documents will have to be notarised. Joanne will let you know what the amount of payment is. Apply for a Multi-Re-Entry Non Immigrant O-A Visa. When you apply, send by registered mail and enclose the appropriate return envelope. The process takes 1 week, so send on a Friday and get back by the next Friday. With that visa, you have 3 months to enter the country. Stay until the deadline of the visa stamp on entry and if you want another year come back to Thailand before the expiry date on the visa issued from the embassy. I know, a lot of work to get the visa but worth it. No sweat if you do things as described. Do not lose your passport use the old one or get a replacement.

Far easier to get a Non-Immigrant O visa from a Thai Consulate at home and convert to a Retirement Extension in Thailand every year until you expire.

  4. Are you ploughing (with discs)or scarifying (withe tynes) or trash-cultivating?

If you want to cultivate at depth with the local gear go slow - cha cha young man - otherwise the discs/tynes will lift up with speed.

Dig deep slowly - finish fast you've only touched up the surface. (bit like sex really).

Cultivate to the depth most suitable for your intended crop's root system/feeding zone.

Buy a tractor with higher specs than what you need - hiring it out once your crop is in is the only way of justifying your spend on a viable capital expense basis = particularly on a subsistence farm.

  5. I have a Lion/Diamond electric trike.

They get around @ 25 kmh OK but no good on hills.(it wont get me out of Kamala.)

Ok by the Orbortor for village use without registration or licence.

Assembled in Bangkok but a long wait for spare parts from O/S.

    Average build quality.

Batteries last about 12-15 months (6000 baht to replace).

There is a Click to Trike converter in Phuket town - if only I could find him.

    Any clues anyone?

  6. My Thai GF applied for a 1 year multiple entry permit to Australia in October 2011. I went with her to VFS in Bangkok. It was all very well run and we only had to wait about 1/2 hour. She was granted the visa in 3 working days and informed by mail that her application was successful. Just don't put all the documentation in separate folders. One big bundle is what the seem to want. I think it cost just over 3k baht cash. She filled in her address on an envelope they supplied for the documentation to be returned to her.

Use the info and check list from the Bangkok Embassy - it can vary with the DIMIA OZ site.

Put the documents in the same order as the included check list.

No need to go to BKK - use VFS and their courier will place your application on the top of the pile.

My experience is 3-4 days for approval from Patong. (but I'm circumspect).

  7. It's a good place for Brides too for Poms.

And they reckon Aussies are a soft touch!!

Great Britain now the most popular for Thai Brides

    Tuesday 29th March 2011 8:01pm

It has emerged that the United Kingdom is the No.1 choice for Thai women who continue to marry UK men in increasing numbers.

Figures released by the Thai government for the Bangkok area in 2010 show that there were nearly three times as many marriages between Thai women and UK nationals than the nearest country which turned out to be the USA.

This comes as the growing numbers of Thai brides traveling to Britain is beginning to produce a reaction which is has both positive and negative implications for the future of the trend. The old concept of Thai mail bride has now being replaced by Thai women using the internet to open up the world and opportunities. In Britain, Thai women are increasingly being integrated into the UK community and countering the negative stereo types which are still very strong. More community groups are being set up by Thai women even in Scotland where there is now a growing Thai community in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Thai women are proving themselves here in the UK where, you have to say, British people have always been fair minded and willing to give a chance to those who work hard,' says Thanit Chomphra who is married to a building contactor in Manchester. In Manchester in 2010 a hit Theater production featured a Thai wife as the heroine in a comedy reminiscent of the British Carry on movies of the 1960's and 70's. the show, aptly titled Thai Brides and Tea Cakes.

The boom in UK men seeking Thai Brides means that there are now as many as 100 couples each week get married either in Thailand or the UK. The United Kingdom's embassy in Bangkok is one of the busiest in the world handling over 700,000 visits every year. It ha also emerged that the extent of the phenomenon of UK men who opt to marry a Thai bride or seek a Thai life partner is increasing, with many men from the United Kingdom now opting to live in Thailand. The other emerging trend is that younger UK men have Thai girlfriends on a long term basis. One UK mother recently expressed concern that her 25 year old son, an internet executive with a stable job in the United Kingdom, had brought his Thai girlfriend from Pattaya home for the second time and as planning to settle down with her.

I guess it just confirms that women the world over prefer British men. And who can blame them!

Is that because they are so successful at marriage?
