  1. Phuket Immi require further evidence of proof of funds to back-up the Embassy/Consul income letter (as of December 2013).

As I use the "mix and match" option (Pension plus deposit) they advised the same "seasoning" period (3 months) for the balance on deposit next time - this December. ("seasoning" not required previously).

The first officer seen refused everything and said "Only 800,000 baht in bank for three months".

So I bypassed him with a wai and stood in front of the Captain's desk.

She was the one who informed me of the new requirements and when I queried the "seasoning" she said emphatically " I'm the Boss here ".

    Yes Maam!

  2. Tourism is in reality 6% of Thailands's GDP.

Widen your perspective moaners - I'm sure next High Season you will be able to hire "a boy" to carry your deck chair/lounger, umbrella, cooler box etc.  down to the King's beach for you ( he's very gracious HM - He doesn't charge you to use His beach.)

After your 2-3 hour sunny but shady sojourn you can retire to your hotel pool (just over the road) and the "boy" will remove your detritus.

Please do not tip him satangs - no-one takes them - save them for that plane charity.

  3. Ideally you could attend a specialized sports injuries clinic to get a differential diagnosis between Biceps or Supraspinatus tendon attachment, anterior capsule strain/tear, anterior portion of Deltoid strain, A/C joint sprain etc etc - all presenting with anterior or superior shoulder pain.

But unfortunately I know of none here and they wont let me start one.

    So home remedies it is.

My non immigrant O visa expired on May 14th and I did a visa run to Cambodia that day. Th stamp in my passport expire August 12th. Anyone know if I can get a one year retirement visa now even if the visa sticker in my passport is expired?

Yes, I am 50 years old and yes I have 800K in my thai bank account.

There is no such thing as a Retirement Visa, If you have a Non Imm O Visa, you can get an extension of stay, based on retirement.

Being 50 years old and having 800,000 baht in a Thai bank is part of the requirement to get the extension.

I presume you got a 90 day Non Imm O Visa in Cambodia.

No, I got a multiple entry Non imm. O visa in Jakarta in May 2013, I did the last visa run to Cambodia (Prom) May 14th. and got 90 days stamp on the border witch expire August 12th. (I have been in Thailand 15 month on this visa from Jakarta) The question is: Can I now get a one year (retirement) stay based on my Non Imm. O visa even if it's expired in May?

Yes - I have done similar (in Phuket).

As long as you apply for your Extension based on Retirement ( which is based upon your Non Immi O visa) well before your last Permission to Stay expires.

  5. Are the taxis going to be allowed to be waved down, or will they have to return to their holding area and wait until a customer calls and it's their turn again?

Excellent point NKM. That's the greatest part of the problem. Taxis/tuk tuks can only pick-up at their (self) designated stand. Adds to the drivers fuel costs = is passed on to the customer (multiplied)

If we had a real meter taxi system where taxis could be waved down - what an improvement. Just a dream 6 months ago - perhaps a glimmer of hope today.

That's the plan - some (metered) circulating, Some (metered) on call out from holding areas.

This plus a bus route along the beaches - Go Army!

They can throw in a Military Governor here for mine as well after the Elections.

  6. IIRC 6 stations (3 each taxis or tuk tuks) for Beach Rd.

I know, pinch me I'm dreaming.

Still - more has been achieved so far on Phuket than decades of dithering.

  7. It has just been announced in Phuketwan that starting shortly Patong taxis and tuk tuks will be limited to three per designated station with the rest parking in collective call centres.

    Plus ALL to be metered!

I await, breathless, being able to park on Beach Rd or Ratuthid 200 pee Rd.

  8. Yeah Croc - I forgot about that sliding scale top-up as I get two Canadian pensions as well as the OAP (I earnt them).

You better not tell Centrelink (should one venture there) about any Thai wife or co-habitating GF.

As she would be deemed "an ineligible partner" and consequently a single rate OAP would drop to 50% of the married rate which is a considerable loss of income.

As I've said, I've decided to live my life without CL in it.

I just want the tax department to leave me the xxxx alone, I've been paying to those bastards for 45+ years, and now they want to tax my super pension at the same rate as a backpacker would pay when picking fruit.

And I don't have a Thai wife I have a carer who needs to share my bed in case I have trouble in the night.. Perhaps I should apply to CL for an allowance for her?whistling.gif

Yeah - I'm another old-timer going the "carer" root here.

    EDIT: Ooops - spelling

  10. The Pollies Pension, the Armed Forces, Federal Govt employees etc ... those whose Super is 'unfunded' is actually funded by the 97.57 Billion Future Fund.

My dream is that starting tomorrow, those guys go onto the same system as what I have, that being a personal Superannuation fund and that, in 30 or 40 years hence, when I'm pushing up daisies that Future Fund which could be close to a Trillion Dollars be available to all Australians to better their life.

    I can but dream.

    David

As an ex public servant, I'm living on my Comsuper pension which I started paying into long before most Australians knew what superannuation was. Most other workers were planning for retirement on the OAP in those days. The Future Fund didn't exist until much later. I, and my employer, paid all contributions over a long period of time.

Granted, the employer contribution was higher than outside the service (although no where near what the Pollies get!). However, we always considered that to be the one major perk we received to offset the down side of being considered the dregs by the general public, and our own employers, and watching our pay rates and working conditions degrade every time a government wanted to impress voters..

I would be entitled to a partial, top up, OAP under the income test if I went back to Australia and jumped through Centrelink's hoops. Not going to happen, not worth it.

Jeez - if you are living on less than the OAP you must be living - hmmmm - like a pensioner.

  11. After 12 pages and 287 posts can I humbly suggest a little clarity in abbreviations?

In the context of this Thread (and the several other related ones) can we:-

    1. Use O/I for those back to back exit/entries from/to Thailand

(not I/O which can be used for entries/exits from those based in Laos, Kampuchea etc andwho are not affected by this new ruling)

    2. Use "Immi" instead of IO which might be confused with I/O used incorrectly

    3. Recognize that there is a Retirement Visa designated "OA" issued by a Thai Embassy/Consulate (outside of Thailand of course) which one can use to travel and present at a Thai border post for entry to the Kingdom resulting (if successful) in a one year "Permission to stay" stamp, without further need to leave the Kingdom within that stamp's validity.

To state "There is no Retirement Visa" is nonsense.

This "Permission to stay" can be extended for a further one year by exiting the Kingdom (with a re-entry permit) just prior to the expiry of the first stamp.

The next year a "Permission to Stay Retirement Extension" for a further year can be obtained at your local Immi office (no need to return "home".)

    Rinse and repeat.

    4. Clarify that all Visas only allow you to present yourself at a border point to acquire permission to stay in the Kingdom (at Immi's discretion).

This stamp allows you to stay, not your Visa.
