This would have been the absolute perfect setup for the BOT to let the baht fall or better yet push it over 40. This would make the baht and Thailand much more competitive with other regional currencies that are winning the FDI game. Of course, another opportunity floundered with Indonesia, Vietnam and now Malaysia (w/ super weak ringgit) being the cheapest countries to do business in.

Its too late. My friend in Taipei already told me he heard about the Taiwanesetourist being refused treatment and passing away. It was all over the news and across social media last week apparently. It spreads like wildfire. Taiwanese were the up and coming tourist market but now the word has gone out. Come to Thailand and be denied emergency care regardless of having insurance or not.

SET50 vs Thai economy
khunjake replied to RotBenz8888's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Even the wealthy elite Thai’s invest their capital in overseas equities. Why buy a low-growth market when you can invest in the Magnificent-7 Nasdaq 100 stocks and make 45% this year alone. The only worthwhile market in asia is India which continues to steadily outperform. -
Stock Exchange Thailand
khunjake replied to stupidfarang's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
My recommendation is don’t buy rubbish stocks. Just one look at the multi-year performance of the SET should tell you something. -
Thailand now competes with all other ASEAN countries for Chinese tourists by going visa free now. Indonesia just announced visa-free for PRC citizens as well. One would think that offering discounts and special packages to expats living here might bump up the revenue numbers but god forbid they give into doing something like that!

You could take a VIP bus from HH to Mukdahan where you would cross into Laos. With this visa type, you will need to leave the country every 90-days though. For me, I usually fly out to KL or Singapore and enjoy a couple of days shopping and taking a short break from Thailand. I have done 2 Non-O extensions in HH and found the IOs there to be very professional and courteous and we had no issues whatsoever with yearly extensions. We moved upcountry last year and upon our first visit to file a TM30, we were met with IOs yelling at us for no reason whatsoever and they made my wife cry actually. Hence we will not deal with this office at all and I’m back on Non-O visas. The money I spend to do this every 90-days is money that I would otherwise spend taking trips domestically, helping the local thai economy of which we no longer do as a result of these guys.

From our experience, Thai crosses (outdoor) seems to be the best with regard to yield, terps and THC. We have done some experimenting with several thai landrace (namely ST1 and 2) and have been quite disappointed across all 3 metrics. The thai sativa x with like a blue dream or haze has been pretty good though and we have a ton of them going on now for the season.

I still see some other online shops taking orders so maybe its just a one-off thing for PrikPot. We just go cleaned out of our last bags yesterday from our best customer taking all our remaining high-grade. Could be in prep for new years or some paranoia about a possible clampdown. Our upcoming harvest we have high hopes for way higher prices then today otherwise will likely be growing only on a seasonal basis like we are in right now. Prices are still way way too low to make this work, even for outdoor after costs.

AIS Fibre and 3BB unite to boost Thailand’s home Internet industry
khunjake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As for the IPTV service and related Android box, I would also say that True has been the best so far as well even if the box needs a kick every 3-5 days. TOT was barely functional and AIS seemed to be pretty good but the DSL would constantly go down in us so would the IPTV obviously. We still use PSI for all Thai TVs though since its a must have with the wife. -
SCB debit card - using abroad
khunjake replied to federicoP's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Many eons ago I tried using both SCB and Kasikorn debit cards outside of thailand to answer the same question. SCB had a net 3.5% international usage charge and Kasikorn was about 2.5%. Nowadays I try to use Wise with local currency spend which is usually just 0.6% for the FX conversation and thats it. -
AIS Fibre and 3BB unite to boost Thailand’s home Internet industry
khunjake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Our True Fiber service has been down all of 5 minutes this year at least during the day. We had NT fiber at our last place and it would go down minimum 3 times a week for at least an hour or more each time. Plus the usual early morning DHCP IP release and renew which would count as additional service outage. We had AIS in our Suk 42 condo and it was a constant headache, down constantly. Anyway, we have been very happy with True lately.. -
Daytime weather is still pretty warm though. Hit 34 today up here but it will get down to 21 at night

Meanwhile, local expats with the means to travel and spend domestically are shunned by the TAT with lack of discounts/incentives, are threatened to be hit with new taxes by the RD and continued overzealous immigration requirements and procedures. For me personally, I don’t spend excess savings on domestic tourism anymore. Instead, we spend lavishly outside the country. For January, we have a lovely Swiss trip planned which would otherwise be done in a high season place like Samui or Phuket in earlier years.

KL embassy recent experience?
khunjake replied to sallecc's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Last time I checked, KL uses an appointment system now and all immediately available spots are taken by local agents it seems. You may want to look at their site and be sure to secure an appointment before showing up otherwise you may be out of luck. Worse case you could hire a local agent to take care if it. -
Obliged to give copy of passport?
khunjake replied to agg211's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I would NEVER sign a rental contract in Thailand unless you have copies of the owners Thai ID card or foreign passport, house book and chanote. All documents should be in the same name too! If you cannot get all of the above, you may have a hard time with immigration services. -
Safeguard your Credit/Debit Cards!
khunjake replied to khunjake's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Ok so Wise has finally come through and has refunded the fraudulent charges and has cancelled the Visa debit card. New card offered at no charge. Still not too happy with the 5 days it took to respond though. -
5. Not having to deal with rogue offices that want a bribe just to submit a completely legitimate non-o extension application. 6. Not having to deal with angry, loud mouthed, non-english speaking IOs that start shouting at you and your wife for simply filing a TM30. 7. Not having to wait for hours at a time to submit the application and then having to show up again 30 days later, wait another few hours to receive the remaining 11-month stamp.

Safeguard your Credit/Debit Cards!
khunjake replied to khunjake's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I filed the dispute case with Wise within 1 hour of receiving the transaction email alerts. So far, nothing from Wise about the case. I have taken out pretty much all funds at this point and will only be using my credit cards moving forward. -
Safeguard your Credit/Debit Cards!

yes indeed. The Wise visa debit card issued to me is from the US through a US bank (Community Federal Savings).
