There are guys that opt for retirement over marriage as the requirements require less docs.
In the future you can move to income method.
Does your embassy provide income letter
I don't think so, unless they changed they don't do much.

You state "we" ...
Are you referring to Thai wife.
People generally don't have "hassles"
You need to concentrate on options for ongoing living in Thailand.
Multiple Entry Non O retirement (visa valid for a year) no longer available.
You will need a single entry Non O and subsequent 12 month extension.
As pointed out you can obtain another Non O when back in USA or enter visa exempt and obtain the Non O at local immigration office.
The extension has financial requirements.
This is all very different to ME Non O
Yes we is Thai wife. I understand financial requirements 800000 baht in bank. Going to set up bank account in June to meet those requirements so that will be out of the way and time for it to season. Going for the Retirement visa cause it is less hassle at extension time...
I really thank everyone for the advise..been away from the Visa thing for about 15 years now so things have changed.

I do own a house in Thailand, I lived there for almost 5 years before. We are selling up here in the States to move back. I never had any hassles there don't expect any this time.

You have a single entry non O based on retirement.
When you enter Thailand you will receive a 90 day stamp.
If you need to exit and reenter within that period you would require a reentry permit. 1000b
Best to look at the bigger picture moving forward.
To live ongoing in Thailand you need to apply for 12 months extension.
That's actually what you should do this trip.
At very least if you do not have a Thai bank account you could open one with your Non O status.
Note Multi Entry Non O retirement is no longer available.
Edit: @wildoates had another read of your OP.
I notice plan of return to home country to sell up etc.
In hindsight it would have been better for the visit in June ("short stay") to have just come visa exempt entry.
The next time you return you have two options:
1. Obtain new Non O and after arrival be given 90 day stamp and in last 30 days obtain a 12 month extension with funds having been in your Thai bank account for 2 months+
OR
2. Arrive in Thailand visa exempt and apply for Non O (retirement) at local immigration office.
The for 12 months extension same process as outlined in first option #1
Do you currently have a Thai bank account in your name only.
Yes I have a Thai bank account in my name only I think I still have. was planning on moving funds in June was going to use the monthly income method does that still require my name only?

I applied for a Retirement Visa 1 year with multiply entries, what they issued was a Retirement Visa 90 days single entry. I am coming over in June for a short stay, but have to return back home to sale house and finish moving. Can I get a re-entry stamp in Thailand or do I need to go through the visa process again?

Our club gives to Tree of Life Orphanage (TOLO) in Buriram. They have just added a new building so they can house more kids. Look them up on Facebook or the web. It is a great place to help.

From SS
"If you are not a United States citizen, the law requires us to stop your payments after you have been outside the United States for six consecutive calendar months unless you meet one of several exceptions in the law allowing your benefits to continue. Most of these exceptions are based on your country of citizenship, residence or on other conditions. "
Go to website, there is a tool that determines if qualified, not a simple yes or no.....

the benefit can be collected in Thailand by a US citizen. Benefits can not be collected to those who live outside the US by non-citizens.

I had a dell, brought it in the US, when I moved to Thailand, had to transfer the warrenty over here. they have excellent in home service here, no complaints on service from Dell.
computers have to take air in from the outside to cool the system, they have fans, It would not be the AC putting water in the computer, never had that problem. I have never been a fan of Sony computers...

The IR1 for me has taken about 5 months,
Was it 5 months from the initial application to the final interview? That seems incredibly fast!
Initial application was June 10, interview on 27 Oct.

When you applied for a CR1 it was basically a CR1/IR1. When your wife enters the USA, USCIS will issue her green card. If on the the date her permanent residency begins you have been married less than two years, they will issue here conditional green card which is valid for two years. After two years she would have to file with USCIS to remove conditions and, if approved, she would get a 10 yr green card. If on the date her permanent residency begins you have been married for two years or longer, USCIS will issue her a 10 year green card.
I am a bit confused by the part that she already passed her interview, but does not have her visa. When my wife interviewed (although it was for a K3) they kept her passport and we went a few days later and picked it up with the visa already in it.
As far as going to the USA, once she enters, they will send her a green card (to the address on the I-130 petition when you applied). Nothing else to do but wait for it (usually takes about a month). Once she has the GC, she can potentially stay outside the USA up to a year without a re-entry permit, but pushing this is not recommended.

I would look into the re-entry permit guidelines to determine if it might not be a better way to go.
Thanks Very Much for The Reply!
I'm still weighing my options but will need to decide within a month or so.
As far as my wife passing her interview, she went to her final interview in March, they approved the visa but she requested to pick it up later. You can put off picking up the Visa for up to a year, but will need to renew your medical and police certificate when you do got to get it. When the visa is issued you have 6 months to use it or lose it.
Does anyone know the current processing times for an IR1 visa?
Thank You
The IR1 for me has taken about 5 months,

I understand why they watch this close, but I have seen Thais get tourtist visa's with ease cause they have good job (working for government, police, nurse) then go to the States, stay 6 months and work the entire time they are there. The one policemen bragged about be a pizza deliveryman, how much money he made. He and 6 others leased an Apt, then walked away from the last 6 months of the lease.....I know it is hard to guess who is the right person, but this policeman was not asked for bankstatement, property information, nothing but that he had a good job as a Policement.....yeah right
