We are in the planning stages of putting together a charity ride on 10 Oct (Sunday). It will start in Surin, we will visit 2 establishments in Surin, ride to Prasat, visit 1 establishment, ride to Coffee Corner visit them, then ride to Buriram to coffee connection and 1 other establishment then finish off in Krasang.....where we hope to acquire some chrome pole attractions......end of ride..... you can come by any means you want, does not have to be a Motorcycle, and you don't have to go to all the places, i.e. Surin then meet up at Krasang, Buriram then meet up at Krasang, Just meet up at Krasang.... entry fee will be 200 baht which will go to Tree of Life orphanage, Each business will be enticing you with a door prize……
Again, still in planning stages, will set up times, routes, put up some flyers, trying to get as many as possible, hope to get some of the Thai riders as well. It will be a great event, fun for all, something no one will want to miss…..Keep tuned here……
I will be posting flyer, map, ect soon.....watch this thread.....

Is this likely to affect the 70-80% of Thai-owned small bikes and scooters in Surin which doubtless have no book?
they don't seem to be concerned in small bikes...and if it is an old bike they are not concerned, it seems to be 400cc and up and newer than 99 at least this is what the shop owner here told me...he refused to let them in his shop 3 times, they got a court document and came back with the police
I hope Mr Moo gets out of this farce OK, as he is one of the Good Guys (in Surin)
Dave is that the guy who had a shopin Krasang?
Yes that is him, he is back now in Surin.....busy all the time......

I hope you informed the people that bought the white ones that there's an high chance of them being deaf ? That includes the ones with little colour as well. White ones are my favourite and I have had a few deaf ones over the years. Not a big problem if one is prepared for the fact.
I have heard that but have not seen it myself,,, my white female is in perfect health,

the all white male is gone, down to the black brittle female and the white male with the brown around the eye going fast.......

I brought my bike from TP, had a few little problems, but talked to owner and everything was taken care of. It took me about 3 months to get a book and plate, so they did alright, happy with the bike....

How dare they enforce the laws!
A law that no one knew about when buying their bikes 2nd hand. If you have a green book you imagine its legal. Am i right! am i!
True, ignorance of the law is not a defense, however there is a good point that even when you try to play by the rules, IE go to the LTD with seller before transfer, and transfer goes OK, you can STILL end up with a book that upon further inspection doesn't pass muster. The sellers take advantage of the corrupt LTD officials and the buyer ends up with the problem despite his best efforts.
Agree, I have friends that brought their bike from bike shops, and paid for the book, and now some are worried cause they were told the book is no good.......I say the government should go to the shop and the government office that issued the book, not the individual that did everything right......

Well bike shops in Surin have been invaded by the Excise tax folks....looking for books or proof that tax has been paid......panic is the new word

'When transferring ownership, if it registered in a different province, you need to go to the motor vehicle department in the province where it was originally registered"
This is what most Thais will tell you. But it is not correct (i think they changed the rules years ago).
Tony (bigbikebkk) has sold and bought numerous bikes and transfered at his local LTD for bikes bought elsewhere or at the buyers LTD for BKK bikes. So if you are paying anyone to do it for you your mad. unless its the local insurance guy cos you haven't got time (100-150b)
PS. One thing to remember though IF you have a grey book then it WOULD be advisable to transfer at the registered LTD. As they are very unlikely to cause a problem.
what is a grey book????

for the purpose of air loss, I use "no flats" in my tires, lots of benifits, and have only added air to my tires 1 time in the last year. great stuff, I buy it on ebay,

10k to move province ??
Your getting fleeced !!
yepp, less than 1k baht including inspection, new reg # in book and new plate, and its a very simple procedure
That is the price if you do it yourself. Transfer to the new province is not required, it is strictly a convenience issue when transferring ownership, you can do the annual registration in another province from the place of original registration. When transfering ownership, if it registered in a different province, you need to go to the motor vechile department in the province where it was originally registerd. That may be pretty far away, and if you don't want to do it yourself, you will need to pay someone to do it for you. That won't be free. I purchased a big bike that is registered in Bangkok with a Bangkok plate. I live in Pattaya. I paid B4,000 to a service that took the Greenbook to Bangkok and arranged for the transfer of ownership, a B3000 premium/commission, which I did not feel was unreasonable (I was told I could have the registration transfered to Pattaya for B1,900 more, I declined -- I like the BKK plate). I agree that B10,000 is high, but if I was in CM and the bike was registered in Bangkok, all done for B10,000 wouldn't be so bad.
So you are saying that you can have the registration (book) transfered to a new province?? do you have to go to the province where registered to do that or the new province??

Guess I misunderstood what the op was saying, thought he transfer (ownership) of the bike at local TL office instead of the one the book with registered with. that is what cost my friends 10K, so they did not have to go to the other province.
