  1. Not sure why you're paying so much tax in UK when you're not living there. I was non-resident for tax purposes in Aussie for 16 years, all my money went to a secret Jersey Bank account, never paid $1 tax
  2. Thank you. I was only 95% sure I wanted to go to Vietnam instead of Thailand in August....now I'm 100% ????
  3. Should re-title the thread to "if you want to be stupid like me, change money without asking the rate first"
  4. No problem, I'll just start early and pick up my Thai flavour of the night before I check in to my hotel ????
  5. Since quoting the "paper we shall not name" seems to be ok now, here is the justification Mr Anutin likened the approach to that of luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton. "Hold your ground. Sell premium. The more expensive, the more customers," he said. "Otherwise Louis Vuitton wouldn't have any sales."
  6. Hotels already run scams pre-covid so what's different I stayed 3 nights in Landmark Hotel Bangkok, they charged me US$ but only after they exchanged it at the Hotel US$ rate to baht (was about 30 instead of 35 on the street) [So greatly inflated baht charged to my Aussie card]
  7. If you're savvy enough to start a thread you're probably savvy enough to read others as well?
  8. He is not a member. He is a writer of news stories which apparently no-one is allowed to complain about
  9. Why does Snoop1130 consistently post duplicate stories that are already active on the news thread? Do they consider themselves so arrogant that they don't even bother to check the thread before they post their version? To keep the momentum of threads going prefer they not be allowed to derail threads by their news version being added later
  10. So if the baht is critically sliding, what does that mean for the pound which dropped 3.4% against the Baht in last year?
  11. Australia was at 0.1% only 3 months ago, now 1.35% (raised 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.5% last 3 months) Finally I get some decent interest on my savings after 3 year of not!
  12. They do, they say you can invest US$250k in Thailand bonds or property. Problem is they don't count people who already have more than $250k in Thai property, they want us to buy a new one
  13. How about don't take weed to any country rather than just warning about 25 countries What's next, don't take a knife, gun or bazooka to any countries?
  14. No it isn't. Who doesn't know drugs should not be carried on a flight. Not ignorance, absolute stupidity
  15. I guess one was in Bali and one was in Indonesia so needed 2 stories lol
  16. That's only recent and not sure it will continue under new government. Either way, wasn't applicable back in 2009 when he moved to Thailand. His 10 years served in Thailand luxury meant no more criminal charges in Aus though
  17. This case may give him some hope as his 2.8g of cannibis similar amount (without the hash or supply charges) Barry Wilfred Hess 50-year-old Barry Wilfred Hess, who is a former airline executive, is expected to be released from a Bali prison having served 4-months for a drug offence. Hess, originally from Melbourne has been living in Bali for the last twelve-years. He was arrested for drug supply charges after police uncovered 14.4g of hashish and 2.7g of marijuana in his house
  18. As he moved to Thailand to escape charges in Australia, seems he used Thailand to wait out the required 10 years for charges to be void before returning. Well done Thailand letting him wait it out in paradise lol
  19. Great for you, so now they just need another 999,999 more people like you as the article says they want a million people to take up this LTR visa ????
  20. But, but, but didn't you read about the fantastic privileges you get: "These privileges include: discounted personal income tax rate, the removal of the requirement for employers to hire four Thai citizens per foreigner, fast track at international airports, 1 year reporting to Immigration instead of 90 days, and the overall ease of regulations concerning foreign residents”. So basically if retired, 1 year reporting instead of every 90 days lol
  21. There's no baht slide,as stated above it's just the strength of the US$. Here is the baht vs A$ over the last year, no slide there
  22. It's obviously not just a Bali thing and I just checked the Australian penalty for cannabis import There is a maximum penalty of up to 10-years imprisonment and/or a $420,000 fine for importing or exporting a ‘border-controlled drug’ other than a ‘marketable’ or ‘commercial quantity’ So I'd be double checking my suitcase before coming home if I was a smoker travelling around Thailand (and triple checking my girls bag if she was coming with)
  23. Well obviously none of the stupid illegal stuff we did was as stupid as taking weed through Malaysia to land in Indonesia (especially since both countries have the death penalty for drugs)
