Past May with a friend in Isan, we both watched in amazement a bright light going back, forth, up, down, at altering speeds, aimed binoculars at it, appeared to have flashing red lights, after hovering for a while with sudden change of increased speed flew directly over us (as we flipped it the bird) and disappeared into clouds. If she is saying Udon Thani area I would bet it is Suwannakhuha in Nong Bua Lamphu Province, typically ladies from Nong Bua Lamphu say they are from Udon Thani province, being Nong Bua Lamphu was established as a new Thai province in the mid 90s. Udon Thani old bus station 042221489 have air con bus to Pattaya about a 10 hour ride, was 550thb a few months back, believe they have lots, 8 or 10 departing daily.

VIP bus, maybe check out Roong Prasert Travels 042343616 heard they operate those 20 seat VIP busses to many locations.

Some interconnected info, believe departing or arriving is same same, at Mukdahan bus terminal 042611421 they used to have air con buses to Khon Kaen leaving every hour for 170thb, not sure about transferring to Udon Thani.

Huanam hotel 042611137 have clean simple rooms 300 thb.

Boat to Savannakhet 9am-3pm every day was 50 thb each way, dock is a two block walk from Huanam hotel.

Belated fyi, was just there a day ago, easy to get to from underground MRT, station Chatuchak exit 4, short 50 meter walk down the street, huge building with red roof, well marked. Got a new blue book and 2555 sticker issued for an old car 1,600thb in about 15 mins once at counter, though on the downside waited in queue 3 hours prior to getting to the counter for service.

Pleasing to me perfume scents surpass diesel, gas and rubber smells during these Thai events. Cold beer Leo and Sing were being sold for 35thb Fri through Sun, heard it was tough getting cold ones elsewhere during Buddha lent weekend. Always a fun day out, great entertainment. Eager to get to the BangSaen beach event later in the year.
