My pension rises have vastly outpaced any inflation in Thailand.
Pension rises, what pension rises! OH! Sorry you mean personal pensions of course?

My personal experience of 'inflation, is more in the way of 'shrinkflation'. Some of the items I buy have dropped in weight but still cost as much. The same thing with the roadside food stalls, you know you are getting less, but still paying the same. A restaurant I visit puts his prices up each year on all food and drink regardless of what he pays for his provisions. Everyone is in the same boat, take your choice and pay up, or go without. Up to you!

Did he admit that? I can't see that in the OP or the linked article.
Seen his statement in more than one international news outlet. He clearly admitted he was not wearing his seat belt.

I hope all those who were injured on board are fully compensated by the airline.
Flying in 2024 isn't as safe as it used to be!
bob.
You are missing the most important fact, bob. He has admitted he was not wearing the seat belt at the time of this incident. The airline could refuse any compensation under the circumstances.

PERHAPS! They all realised they were getting nowhere with their education, and decided there was no point carrying on?

"Reportedly, five children were seen at the hut before the incident. Two of them, who also resided in the temple, had left the premises."
Makes one wonder, was the fire started from inside or outside?

suck it up.
as for respect, what a laugh. , most have no clue of the meaning of the word.
Thia's show 'respect' to their elders and supposed betters. The problem is, it has been forced on them by their elders and supposed betters from a very early age, over many centuries, so ingrained in the culture.

and you apparently think education is better in western countries .
As usual one has to pay large to get good education and the kids I see ( if they even bother going to school, are a bunch of numpties that probably can't subtract 3 from 5. They are, however, really good at bullying on social media, looking at porn and taking days off to protest about things they don't understand like climate change.
Ah, but the sun was shining this morning and this afternoon it rained and a thunder storm. That's climate change for sure. Don't under estimate these kids!

Private schools, plagiarized work, and fake degrees.
A university close to me was closed due that problem. It is taking along time to get back on its feet after a two year closure.

Well, people are in employment in business, banking, govt and the military and are attending and graduating from colleges and universities.
So many when they apply themselves must be receiving an education.
At Private Schools no doubt. There still those who learn from their parents or employer, the rote way. No critical thinking required and no chance of advancement to better themselves. The pendulum swings, but that is all it can do.

Students returned to school for the new academic year last week – but most found that little had changed in Thailand’s subpar education system.
“Thailand’s education is still stuck in the 2.0 era instead of stepping into the 5.0 era,” prominent educator Assoc Prof Dr Sompong Jitradub commented at the start of the 2024 academic year.
He said the country’s much-hyped educational reforms were mostly physical and focused on things like buildings, cleaner toilets, the hiring of school janitors and administrative staff, as well as higher pay for teachers.
But reforms tackling the essence of education have simply not materialized, he added.
That view is backed by the latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), in which Thai children’s academic performance was the lowest since the country joined the program in the early 2000s.
Thai kids scored an average of less than 50% in all subjects assessed by PISA, which is run by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
‘No progress’ under current government
Sompong said the current government has made no real progress since announcing its policy statement eight months ago.
There has neither been real educational reform nor a significant reduction of longstanding educational inequality, he said.
For decades, the performance of rural schools in Thailand has significantly lagged behind their urban counterparts.
“From what I’ve observed, the government has merely been repairing the current education system.

“From what I’ve observed, the government has merely been repairing the current education system".
It has neither the tools or the parts required to make the repairs. Throw all the money you want at the broken system, but it will never improve until the learn by rote is scrapped, and students can ask questions. Teach them to think, not what to think with teachers who can teach, not someone applying for a cushy job for life.

I don't like haggling , I just want to know the price and then decide whether to make a purchase .
"How much is this "
"900 Baht , special price 700 Baht , you how much"
I would rather go into a shop and see the 300 Baht price label
Up to you.

A better way would be to go to shops where they have items priced at the going rate , rather than going to markets where they charge what they want .
Priced items in shops are usually always the cheapest option
Haggling over a price in the markets is all part of the fun of a market visit. I learnt that lesson in Chiang Mae over 30 years ago. A very nice tooled leather belt with a buckle I really liked. 500b was the price quoted. I paid 300b which at that time would have been £6:70. I still have that leather belt, but it is now too short.

Especially in view of immigration being such a 'hot topic'.
I wonder how many people in the EU/Schengen still think that having no borders is really a good thing?I believe they have come to that conclusion already. They are also looking at ways to deport thousands of illegal immigrants, after Merkal opened the door to at least a million.

There was one previously published in this forum.
But I think the first question is about which county's laws apply. If the law of the "passport-country" apply, then maybe a will in Thailand doesn't make any sense. I don't know, this is why I ask.
If you make a Will to cover the assets held in Thailand, then the laws of Thailand apply, if said Will was drawn up in Thailand. If you make a Will in a foreign country, drawn up in that foreign country, then the laws of that country apply. If you should make a Will in Thailand to cover ALL assets world wide, the laws of Thailand apply, but all Wills can be contested by any or all beneficiaries.
I have a Will to cover my few assets in Thailand, drawn up by a Thai lawyer. I have another Will to cover assets in the UK, drawn up by solicitors in the UK. Both state quite clearly that neither can make a claim against the other.

Did I ever mention to you my experiences during and after my lobotomy?
It happened to me completely without any anesthesia, whatsoever.
I cannot say that I would highly recommend a lobotomy to just anyone.
A lobotomy! I have to say, it was not a very good job. Do you think you could have a word with the surgeon, perhaps he could do a better job the second time around?
