Could be related to the incoming tax laws on foreign income. Wife was asked to complete a form at Bangkok bank related to all her income. Didn't take long as she has none. Staff said also related to new tax laws. Since then have not heard of anyone else having to do this. Maybe this is the start, no extension without declaring income and source. TIT

If you are over 65 yrs of age and ALL your income is taxed before receipt, you do NOT have to pay tax in Thailand. If you go to your local tax office to gain a tax ID PIN, you will be in the system and have to complete a tax return EVERY YEAR. If you don't have to, DON'T DO IT.

CM Immi. iends to adopt new Immi. rules and processes ahead of other provinces, I've witnessed this several times in the past when they've asked for something such as a copy of your lease and others have laughed at the idea. IF they are now asking for proof of where the money comes from, watch it, I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, not for one moment.

If I am asked as to where my income comes from, they will be informed to contact the tax office, as that is their domain. The only thing immigration can possibly ask for is the 800/400K as proved in a bank, the rest of my income is none of their damned business.

Got to admit I used to love a big piss up, but now at my advanced age 2 beers is all I can manage without a hangover.

Try to alternate a bottle of beer with a bottle of water. The visits to the toilet will increase but so will the number of beers. What's not to like!?

Yup, those solicitors didn't get their reputation by being honest. They probably have an office party after muggins gives them a whole heap of loot to evade the law.

Top of my list of people not to trust would be lawyers/ solicitors, and second is Thai wives.

Lawyers/solicitors, I would agree. However, I believe you are being unfair to many Thai wives. I would definitely trust my wife's judgment, as opposed to many of the bar stool lawyers up and down the country.

I would love to hear of some storiesd on here from guys who left it all behind .

Last year I was in a bar in Soi Bukhao I actually bought the bar owner 2 or 3 expensive drinks to hear him tell me how his 2 adult sons( in Belgium) had not spoken to him since 2017 when at the age of 57 he divorced and came to Pattaya.

One of his sons was a police officer in Belgium and he spoke highly of him until I made him sad to talk about him ,"you must be proud of him " I said to his smiling shaking head ,yes he said half sad half happy face

"Sad he thinks your a failure of a Dad " I said back to his facial expressions turning to sadness , "he will probably never talk to you again " I said to him to watching  his sadness , "you must of hurt him a lot as a Dad "

I then paid the bar tab his drinks included and he actually thanked me still tears in his eyes as I walked off into the distance looking back he was still sitting at the table staring into his wine glass , obviously reminiscing 😅

You do tend to run off at the mouth, George. I have to wonder just what is between your ears!

We have a local 'council' rubbish tip about 4km away.......the rubbish is tipped and just burned where it lies on the ground....household waste, tyres, plastics.......locals tend to drive halfway to the tip with more rubbish then I guess they think CBA.......and tip huge mountains of waste by the roadside, which someone, once in a black moon, burns......it is disgusting.

It sounds like environmental waste. Or, sod the environment, its only waste

Im sick of  my  blurry at all distances  eyes, having had great vision up until 52 its  now a   fuzzy  mess, I  need  reading glasses and distance  glasses. What can now be done in Thailand to correct  both . Can far sighted  and  near sight be fixed, read  about one eye for near one for  far? anyone had it ? how did it work out. Cost irrelevant but good surgeon as I dont want a  white  stick  and labrador. Its  not  bad but I miss the sharpness of everything.

Anything new to look out for.....60 years  old  now. Spent  10  minutes trying to cook a pizza  in the washing machine!

At leat it would have come out clean😄

You don't go home straight away in the rest of the world. In Australia you will spend some time in recovery then under a period of supervision which is not short and finally would have to have a person arrive to collect you who identifies themselves to the hospital staff and signs a declaration that they will stay with you and observe you for 24 hours and warns of criminal penalties for failure to do so. Otherwise you stay overnight.

    That sounds like overkill, BUT!

I wrote a few weeks ago about my eye problems and Thailand's Top optician being unable to correct it with new glasses. I received some excellent advice amongst the usual irrelevant comments.

As a result of the excellent advice I attended a private hospital for a proper test, where I was told I had cataracts in both eyes and glaucoma in one. Surgery could be done on the cataracts for 25,000 a time. Okay. But I would need to stay overnight (extra charge of course but free food and dark glasses included :unsure:).

A two-minute Google check revealed every single entry saying that no overnight stay is required. USA, UK, Australia. Nowhere. A friend in Scotland had it done, with tea and biscuits after and then home. In New Zealand, a friend took his father to be seen, in and out in three hours including recovery time.

So I went to see a doctor who has a clinic in Kalasin and who works at the government hospital there. He confirmed the cataracts and said I didn't have glaucoma and my eye pressure was normal. You'd think a government hospital would charge less, but he wanted 20,000 plus an extra 5000 for him. And he also said I needed to stay overnight.

What makes cataract surgery so dangerous in Thailand that instead of going home straight away as you do in the rest of the world we have to stay in hospital overnight for observation, I wonder. I guess the answer has to begin with M or maybe B. It's the same thing. And it seems I'll have no alternative but to give in to the system.

Then I have to get a third opinion, somehow, on whether I have glaucoma or not.

The price quoted for the cataracts treatment is about par. The over night stay is a fleece. I have had both eyes done for cataracts about a month apart and was in and out within 3 hours on both occasions.
