  1. Just a reminder...

    Demonoid is open for registration.

Want an account? This is your chance to join *without* an invite.

I thought it was the beginning the month but registration is closed as of this moment.

  2. I have been using Go Daddy for a few years & makes the whole process quite easy as you can register the domain name, plus you can get a free website if you want but I think they put advertising on it. A 5 page website which you can make up quite quickly using their templates is not expensive. You can also easily install a shopping cart. When you take a package the costs are not high plus they always have special discounts.

  3. thanks a lot everyone! i will stop at boots @ home pro chalong on the way home!

@valentine, as far as i know, berocca is always vitamin b + c (even berocca boost). if i find something different would you like me to let you know?

In Australia yes but over here it has always been vitamin D although I must admit I have not looked for a long time, no hangovers these days, & yes please let me know if you find the vitamin B variety.

  4. I had a very low water pressure again on saturday for a few hours and again now.

Anyone know the reason? is this a frequent high season thing? or does someone know about some repairs the water company might be doing?

I have exactly the same on Saturday & now. It must be pump repairs or something although they did extensive work on pumps a few months ago.

  5. I have never had a salesman try to tell me the quality of the displays you can see in the stores are what you will get watching TV at home but then again I understand that already. When you plan on paying 30,000+ (Samsung series 6 have just been reduced) for a good quality LED TV then surely a few questions should be asked. I agree with others that not many will buy just to watch TV programmes (for this an old CRT TV will do just as well) but will at least on occasion want to watch & good quality DVD so then one should buy a 1080p which can run at 100hz. Some 1080ps only run on 50hz.

  6. large increase in middle east and huge increase in russians, but both groups spend less outside hotel

in addition Scandinavians and other returning guests are here on the same budget in home currency, having 20-40% less baht to spend.

I think places like Central do well out of the middle east & Russian market. If you look at a cross section of tourists in Central I think you will find the Russians are by far the largest segment yet I read on another thread they are making it hard for Russian tourist guides to work here. I realise jobs should go to Thais wherever possible but would venture to suggest Russain speaking Thai tour guides are few & far between. Surely it would be a better idea to allow as many Russian tourist guides, in the interim until there are enough qualified Thais, to handle this large influx.

I agree with KB in that the Phuket forum has been rather boring of late.

  7. At Powerbuy in Phuket prices for the series 6 have just dropped considerably in the last couple of days. Always ask the salesman what, if any, promotions they have as they are not always obvious e.g. quite often if paying by credit card from a Thai bank you can get what they call an on top discount which could be something like pay it over 6 months at 0% plus get an additional 5% discount. Of course the terms will vary. I would not waste money paying extra for the internet at home feature, just get the allshare model as the specs are the same.

  8. Until the kingpins are arrested & locked up for a long time we will continue to get these headlines. Problem is the kingpins are just too high up. If the graft & corruption in this country was cut by 50% & spread amongst the populace it would raise the standard of living quite considerably & those still collecting the rest can continue to enjoy good gains in their wealth portfolios. The lower levels of corruption are only tolerated because they are condoned by the next tier of authority which in turn is condoned by the next tier & so on. There are still many good people in this country but they remain silent.

  9. I have just woken to read the related story of bombs found, this story stinks to high high heaven cant wait to see what TV posters think.

Apparently those arrested said they were paid to stir up trouble at the PAD protest but looking at what they were caught with the potential for serious loss of life was there. Are there still some out there who want civil war or at the very least another coup?

  10. The best way for a government to assist in lower-prices, is to ensure a free-market with easy-entry and no attempts at control or monopoly, but the big Thai companies like the current situation with its lack-of-competition. But how to break-up these cartels, whether in rice or chicken-meat or oil-products or alcohol, not easy I think ?

And to pretend that TRT were responsible for cheaper world-prices for food several years ago, or that the Dem-led coalition is to-blame for the current world-wide surge in food-prices, is simply misguided or even deliberately-misleading. B)

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me rice prices have virtually doubled from a few years ago. I realise there are a lot of factors including external ones, buying schemes, middlemen, & the associated corruption. I was just reading fertilizer prices have increased considerably yet the Baht has been strong for a long time so how can that be justified although I imagine it is controlled by only a few & the authorities appear to have no interest in organic fertilizers as there is no big money to be made but would be great for the country as a whole to help embrace his majesty's self sufficiency programme.

  11. *double post*

Dmn connection. Y U NO work good?

Spa jets are not expensive, less than 2,000 each, & they come with 2 connections one for water & one for air. The air connection can be just a piece of pipe sticking up in the air which will be sucked in when the pump is running thus creating an air water mix. The jets can be placed in the region of your lower back when sitting & if you figure 0.5 HP per jet then you know what size pump you will need.

  12. Did you get a sourdough bun with your chicken burger ? I tried it and it looked and tasted like a normal boring white flour bun....nothing I will return for, but there are other things on the menu that I would like to try. The waitress was very nice though :) I did see the Vietnamese place next door and felt a bit sorry for the lady owner sitting alone outside waiting for customers. Maybe I'll try that place next time, but I always worry about empty places and the freshness of their food....

It did appear to be a normal store bought bun. I was chatting with the owner about life in general & forgot to mention the bun as there was a problem with a small chocolate caramel cake in that the caramel part was so hard it could easily break your teeth. He apologised & replaced it with another cake of my choice. So it appears there are some teething problems which they need to sort out quickly if they are to survive.

  13. I am looking for something similar.

Would like a just a mini pool really:

2.2x2.2x1m. If it has a few bubble jets, nice but just having a tub would be awesome.

Calculated volume of water is approx. 1400ltr.

Is it doable to build it with cement blocks and tiles? It would need some basic drain and filtration.

I want to keep the budget under 100k.

    Possible?

Yes but I seriously doubt it for under 100k. Unless you plan on refilling it everytime you will need a pump & filter which can circulate through spa jets which have an air water mix (the air is just sucked in through an open external pipe). The blocks will need to be plastered & waterproofed plus it would be nice to shape a curved seat. Tiles will also make it look & feel better. Pump size will depend on how many spa jets you want. An option will also be to have an air blower creating strong bubbles coming up through the seat which would really tickle you &/or someone else's fancy.

  14. GOMS (Grumpy Old Men's Society) will meet at Chalong Pier Beer Garden on Monday 24th Jan. Meetings are held regularly to raise funds for charities proposed & agreed upon by the members. It is also a good fun evening that runs from 6pm to around 8.30pm.

Any group, club or society that would have me as a member I wouldn't want to belong to.

    Is your middle name Groucho?

  15. Separate from general dfeportation issue, presumably he is now guilty of overstay?

This was a big hassle for him considering they were holding his passport but he managed to keep all his paperwork in order.

  17. Had a good chicken burger in Delish yesterday along with a large banana smoothie. I was not so keen on the McDonald type fries but the owner is amenable to suggestions & hopefully he will change to home made ones. I will go back to try the beef burger & the toasted sandwiches sometime. There is a Vietnamese next door & what looks like an Italian/pizza place opening soon in the same complex i.e. Fisherman's Way.

  18. Does the employer have any public or employee liability insurance?

If not and it has not yet been proven that the company is at fault, negligent or shown to have failed to ensure proper safety standards for it`s staff, then I doubt whether your brother in law has any claims against the company. Actually getting the case into a court could take years under Thailand`s archaic legal system.

I believe social security coverage is extremely limited according to have much has been paid in and so on. Remember Thailand is not a welfare state.

In the USA, Europe and UK it is law that all companies are required to have public and employee liability insurance? But of course this is Thailand, say no more.

I`m sorry but it appears your brother in law is really up against it and the chances of receiving a decent compensation for his injuries, pain and suffering are not looking good.

The company only took out accident insurance after this happened. I am sure it would be pretty easy to prove unsafe working conditions for this particular job. If this went to court I assume this will be a civil case & as such I think they try to push these through quite quickly nowadays.

  19. The employer is responsible, as long as the medical expenses are related to the industrial accident and the charges are within the charges allowed under the Ministerial Regulations promulgated pursuant to the Workmen's Compensation Act up to 50,000 baht in medical payments for serious injuries. Thereafter, the Compensation Fund pays the medical expenses. You can read the compensation act here: Workmen's Compensation Act (2537)

Perhaps the problem is that the current medical expenses paid are under 50,000 baht, but the recommended procedures will push the payments over 50,000. This is covered in the Ministerial Regulations, but I'm not sure those are available in English translation. I would contact the Ministry of Labour and get an explanation on responsibility for the medical payments. I would think that the employer has to pay up to the 50,000 limit, and then the compensation fund takes over for anything beyond that.

Thanks but I do not see any reference to 50,000 in the link, unless that figure is in the Ministerial Regulations, although I must admit to having read through it quite fast. It does state the employer has to pay 60% of his salary while unable to work & I always thought SS paid this. More research methinks. Medical bills so far amount to around 100,000 but no salary compensation.
