  1. Although I, & no doubt most of you, have been receiving for a long time the usual "Nigerian" scam emails I have never received any through SMS until today I was informed my mobile number had won GBP1,450,000. The heading was "Congratulation" & the email to contact was .cn which I think is China. My number is with AIS & I shall inform them but how did the scammer get hold of my number & I assume plenty of others? This has been discussed before but I wonder if someone at AIS was complicit in supplying the numbers.

  2. Best thai seafod hands down is Kaen Eang one or Two and its been that way for over 25 years!!

Was at number 2 today (I think, @pier is number two right?) for the first time in over a year. It was just as good as always, one of the best restaurants on the island.

    @pier is number 1.

  3. Anyone tried that shithole Super Burger? Its so disgusting and dirty in there, I can't imagine anyone in their right mind eating there. I think I got herpes just looking at it. I hope they go out of business soon. If I could get my wife's permission first, I'd file a complaint.

Burgers at Adam Kebab are good. Where is Super Burger?

  4. Same reason why I could not get any cooking oil at Big C yesterday although the shelves were filled with palm oil which I don't like to use. The butter shelf was almost empty. Don't expect it to improve soon with Songkran drawing near.

2012 may not turn out to be the cataclysmic event portrayed in the movie but the effects of peak oil will certainly effect supply & demand to a much greater degree than what we are seeing now.

  5. Watch out for copies there are plenty of them around

I stick with big C or Testco lotus, there prices are competitive and they do not sell copies

if any phones are available they should be able to get them for you if they are not in stock

Said their company does not sell them anymore. Not sure if this is an Apple worldwide policy or just the local company. Anyway I can check some of the other Apple resellers.

    For some time we had been toying with the idea of buying an IPAD, useful for travelling;

The "Apple" shop in Central is a waste of breath, they allow kids to play with the show models so you can never get near them, they seem to know little of their product, no training, and have always 'No Have" attitude if you want accessories like the Pad cover.

We went to Banana at Jung Ceylon....efficient staff, quick deal, everything there and questions answered.

The sales staff are just kids anyway & yes not willing to step up. I think the original Apple dealer in Central, they still have a stall opposite Apple, now have a shop in Big C. They were always pretty helpful before so I will check later as I will most likely be at Big C today.

  7. Out of curiosity & an eye to the future I visited the new Apple shop in Central & asked for the price of an iPhone 3Gs as I thought once newer models were introduced the older ones would drop in price. However, since the iPhone4 came out it is the only model they will sell. I find this to be quite ludicrous as every other shop still sells older versions of Nokia, Samsung etc. One can assume that soon they will not be selling iPhone 4 or iPad 1.

  8. Congratulations on the tuk tuks for providing another Phuket horror story that will do the rounds of the international media. However, it will be interesting see what their side of the story is. Seems like the whole island including mainly Thai businesses are continually held to ransom by these guys.

  9. I expected it to be on TV's Phuket News & Events as I normally do not go the PG or PW websites. PW reported a thai pradit, PN reported a sawn off shotgun. Pol Col Kraitong Janthongbai of Tungtong Police station told that Mr Soonthorn had shot Ms Wiranthana in the head with a sawn-off shotgun, before shooting himself.

  10. I cannot find this story anywhere except the recently started newspaper although I first heard about by email. It happened in Kathu & the kids were 10 & 12 years old. Very tragic & how come a motorbike taxi driver has a sawn off shotgun?

  11. Please tell me what are your sources. The Thai Visa story has been changed from the article quoted . What is your souce for these changes ?

The original story makes no mention of a "bus" only of a lorry whuch was hit. Presumably the workers were being picked up in the lorry.

Also, where do you get the information that they were "factory workers" ? The original article says that they are "migrant workers "

That is a substantially different story.

Oh, and please Brits, if you must use your native jargon, explain it for the rest of us, who were not similarly blessed/cursed with a an English upbringing . I now know after research that an HGV vehicle is actually an LGV vehicle -- thank you!

It is not substantially different at all. Have you considered they were migrant workers who worked in a factory. Trucks/lorries are often used to bus workers to & from the workplace. It is quite commonplace to see trucks packed full of workers being transported around which is why you can get 65 people on board as they have to stand up.

  12. I am pretty sure it was a local cable company, very old pick up with the ad on.

You will have to buy a digital box to receive the digital signal. KPP in Phuket Town said they were going to sell them for 1,700 & have 150 channels, at 350 per month, but just last week they said the service will not be ready until June. Perhaps the one in Rawai is ready to go & another thread said the digital box cost 2,000.

To answer Jimi I have seen True running coaxial cable on Chao Fa West to be used for both TV & internet. It will be interesting to see what their TV content is & how much it will cost.

  13. How often do you add salt to a salt water pool, The previous owner told me the man who cleaned the pool

put in a 25KG bag every week, This works out to 1,25 tonnes a year,

I would think one bag a month should be enough allowing for back washing the filter as salt does not evaporate.

Can anyone tell me how often to add salt please

Usually there is an indicator on the saltwater chlorinator. You can check this site for information http://www.poolrite.com.au/products/10 Obviously in the wet season it will require a lot more.

  14. Cementthai Home Mart on Chao Fa East, their prices are the same for everyone. They are also the agent for CPAC & if you want to buy a lot of concrete you may be able to negotiate a cheaper price than buying direct from CPAC but at the very least it will be the same price. Steel prices go up & down according to supply & demand but are generally pretty much the same at the various shops.

  15. I have been using an auto CPAP machine for years which helps give a vast improvement in my sleep. The nights of having to get up & pee 3 times have long gone plus it is a bonus for your partner who no longer has to endure the snoring & ensures she also gets a good night's sleep.

  16. I knew that the Thai politicians are stupid but that they are so stupid I never imagined........

they are not stupid ............... Selfish is what we should say...

clearly the law is for themselves....

doesn't reflect the voices of the majority ...

somehow I don't think that it will be the Thai politicians who will be proven stupid in this case....

    Just call it intuition.

    Amazing Thai Visa posters.

  17. The normal box for selection and go is still there. Try clearing cookies and CRTL=F5 to see if that helps.

Any suggestions on which cookies, as some are useful, to clear or should I just clear them all. Clearing the cache did not help.

    ThaiVisa.com

    Did not work.
