  1. I was going to give you a number of a good mechanic friend of 16 yrs standing who would know for sure. Got it 1/2 done then the site went down no harm done so here it is anyway....

Name... Vichai ( motors ) 0819563983 good English. Good mechanic.

If you live southside a good supplier is Choa fah Spare Parts just north of the entrance to Phuket Villa # 3 opposite Tesco on Choa Fah East Rd, The boss speaks perfect English and if not there his wife, in charge of the till, will phone him up so you can ask for exactly what you want. At one time running a fleet of 20 hire cars of every make and model and he never once failed to supply. From brake discs, body panels, batteries, pitman arms, light assy's .You name it he's either got it in stock or will get it overnight from BBK . Don't be mislead by the size of the joint. Maybe it was my smile but was always the cheapest as well. Highly recommended.

    Hi 69,

    I guess I owe you.

I needed a spare part for a 15 year old Toyota SR 5, pickup. The unit on the steering wheel, that contains the wiper and the light switch.

Went to Phuket arai. Not in stock, can order, cost more than 8'000 B, downpayment 4'000 B.

A few days later, can not order, we'll give you the money back.

This morning my wife went to Chao Fah spare part. They had the part in stock. Cost a little over 1'700 B.

She got it, went to Phuket alai, got the 4'00B back.

Then she got a phone call from PA, that they can order the part. TiT ?

The part from Chao Fa is not original Toyota. I don't really care.

  2. I was there last Sunday evening. (Between Moto2 and Moto GP)

Had a Cheeseburger with Coleslaw and Ratatouille, and a glas of Rosé. (Pink wine).

I managed to eat half the burger (because I was hungry)

    The wine was OK.

The music? Not the kind I like together with my food. Plus too loud, and too much bass.

Too bad really. I had some decent food in WC Festival and Junk Ceylon.

  3. "Fatty's" has excellent German food.

"The Pastime" in Rawai has good Swiss food.

"Munchhausen" in Kata has not the best sauerkraut. (You know what I mean.)

    I also, am not Germansmile.png

  4. Shame on the OrBorJor for penny-pinching on water safety in "one of the worlds great tourist destinations".

And, what a refreshing attitude on the part of the Lifesaver guy. Good luck and best wishes to you and all your lifesaving staff.

Do you know how much they get? How many hours they "work"?

And the point of your question is... ?

Well, the point is: How can one call it "penny-pinching" , if one doesn't know, how much they actually get paid.

  5. Without competition the restaurants on the same soi as Tiger Muay Thai has the best food on the island, almost thai prices and big plates, Just feel ripped off when eating elsewhere like Patong or Kata. There is one good place to eat in Patong, Restaurant nr 5 on the food court behind Tiger. Don't forget Phattys and Anchor Inn in Chalong!!!

    Anchor inn is terrible

I think they have the best "Wiener Schnitzel" in the south of Phuket Island.

  6. a few questions guys, whats mai mi, whats a soi

    and

any good indian places in phuket? more leaning towards north indian/punjabi food? any reccomendations though are welcome

I have been going to "Khan Baba" for many years. When I feel like eating some mutton. Good roti and yellow dahl. Good mango lassi. Khan Baba is on the "no name road" between Thai Na Rd and Ket Khuan (Kat Kwhwan) Rd. I went to the Tetsaban to ask for the name of that road. Hopeless. There is another Khan Baba on the little hill direction Dino Park. But the neighbour bar is too noisy for me.

  7. When I lived in Chiangmai I grew a few stevia trees in my garden. You should do the same.

Interesting, can you say where you bought them at, and what they are called in Thai?

Stevia plant, satiwia, หญ้าหวาน) ya wan)

I'm using the dried leaves for my teas, but would like to get some seeds or plants. (Chatuchak?)

The Jiaogulan-plant from JJ grows nicely.

  8. Got 90 days on 25th of Feb. (till 24 May)

Longtailboat 600 THB, for 3 Pax, 2 ways.

My wife came along. Checked out of Thailand with her Thai passport. The Burmese charged her 10 US$.

If she would have checked out with her ID, would have cost 30 THB.

Have done this trip many times.

Sometimes I spend a night in Ko Song ((kaow Thoung ?) Honey Bear Hotel, crappy, 800THB

Sometimes in Tinidee.(Ranong) OK Hotel, Restaurant, forget it.

Sometimes up the vally, at the Hot springs. Good fun,

  9. In 1991 I traveled through Thailand on a motorbike. I enjoyed it so much, that I returned in 1992. That year I met Liz. After she cooked a “Tom Yam Gung” for me, we stayed together. It is probably the most popular and well known soup from Thailand and considered the queen of Thai soups, and sometimes I call Liz the Queen of Tom Yam.

Liz’s version is the best!! You are more than welcome to come to Phuket and try for yourself.

    ต้มยำกุ้ง

    TOM YAM GUNG

(Hot and sour soup with lemon grass.)

    Serves 4-6

    1 pound prawns

    4 cups chicken stock

3 stalks lemon grass, crushed, cut in 5 cm pieces

    4 kaffir lime leaves, crushed

5 slices Thai ginger (not Chinese)

    4 shallots crushed

200 gr mushrooms, halved or quartered

1/2 tbs fish sauce and/or a little salt (taste!)

    ½ tsp sugar

    2 tbs lime juice (taste!)

    ½ cup coriander leaves

    2 tbs chopped spring onions

4-10 hot red chilies , crushed

    2 small tomatoes ( cut in 8/8)

    1. Shell and devein the prawns.

    2. Bring the chicken stock to the boil.

    3. Add the lemongrass, kaffir leaves, ginger and shallots.

    4. Boil gently for 5-6 minutes until fragrant.

    5. Add the prawns and the mushrooms.

    6. Cook until the prawns are pink.

    7. Stir in the fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, spring onions,

    coriander leaves, chilies, tomatoes.

    8. Serve

The Tom Yam should be sour, salty, spicy and hot

    Do not overcook prawns!!!

Do not eat lemongrass, kaffir leaves, and ginger.

And yes, of course, it is served with a bowl of Thai Jasmin Rice.

    If you substitute the prawns

    - with chicken, it’s called Tom Yam Gai

    - with fish, it’s called Tom Yam Pla

    - with seafood, it’s called Tom Yam Taleh
  10. According to my wife, who runs a massage business in Soi Sugar Palm, the massage "Ladies" from the beach went to demonstrate to the Tetsaban for higher prices. So the Tetsaban invited all the massage owners or their representatives to a meeting. There they were then ordered to rise the prices the next day. If they would not rise their prices, their licence would not be renewed. Voila.

  11. Many years ago I took the road from Khao Facchi (North of Ranong) direction La Un and further to Thon Pla.

I had to cross about five rivers. (No bridges) Quite adventurous, with flat tire, and absolutely no traffic.

I wonder if anybody has taken this road lately, and if the road is better now.

    Thanks

  12. I stick any seeds I find, in with planting soil filled plastic bags (diameter about 6 cm)

I water them 1 time per day and then I just wait.

    No direct sunshine.

When I think the plants are big enough, and I have free time, I put them in bigger pots.

On Dec. 16 I hung an avocado pit in a water glass.(see picture) In a few days I'll put it into soil.

  13. I like the shop opposite the cops in Chalong. Small, a bit messy, but no time wasting secretaries or sales people who know nothing.

There is a very fat guy there, who is excellent in balancing the wheels.

If you catch a nail, they repair it immediately, for about 100 B.

They do not have a big stock. But they can order what you want.

Have been going there for 10 years.
