  1. I agree with Brit. If you finish your degree you can get hired legally with a lot more pay. There are more schools in Bangkok that offer international courses.

Check with the university you attended for 3 years and get your transcripts. See what you can transfer over and make a plan to attend.

I'm attending Payap University in Chiang Mai. One year at the univeristy is going to cost me 110,000 baht. 3 or 4 months of working legally in Bangkok could pay back my 110,000 baht investment.

From a financial viewpoint, going to school could increase your longterm income while giving you time to research the many different schools in Bangkok wanting English teachers.

Like many people here, the o.p should not have a problem finding a job.

His visa can be changed and with the schools help he should be able to get a work permit.

When you are 50 years old and living in Thailand for a while ,it is not practical to return home just to finish your degree.

    Good luck in your search.

  2. A good friend to many ex pats in Chiang Rai has died.

Gordon James, 74 British ,died suddenly last Wednesday.

He was a former London ambulance driver and a renowned cricket player.

    Cremation today at 12 o'clock.

    R.I.P

  3. Anyone interested in some mountain bike rides around Ban Du / Chiang Rai University? Lots of dirt roads and trails...!

I love riding the old farmer roads around where I live. Love it too much to want to load up the bike in the back of the truck and drive somewhere else. Good luck finding a riding buddy and have a great ride.

You should check out Hamburger1 restaurant in bandoo.

Always lots of farang heading into the hills by bicycle.

    happy cycling.

  4. this rental is an ad - and should be in the classifiedds section.

if allowed here, then I couldn't mind posting about a house I have available for rent.

As far as I am aware you have many houses and properties for sale and rent, at least according to your website.

That makes you a dealer or an estate agent, which makes your add a commercial advertisement and there is a fee for advertising on Thaivisa and this ain't the place to do it.

Soap on the other hand is not an estate agent, doesn't deal in property and is quite entitled to put his house for let here.

Why spoil it for others, pay for your advertising, like other companies do.

I'm really sorry you are leaving as you have had a great input into this forum.

As regards my friends and I , unfortunitly I don't have any friends here.

Would you like to be my friend?

  6. A very interesting read. Always appreciate the fruit of a good mind at work.

As for the negative posters, I am surprised you were willing to go public with that closed-mind mentality. You are the intellectual equivelants of "salad-dodgers" :D

If it is so interesting, then buy his books and don't be encouraging people to put long winded excerps on this forum.

Surely Thai Visa's Chiang Rai forum is boring enough without the like of this.

Why can't we get back to the origin of this forum, helping each other out, giving information to newbies, having lively discussions, posting local events and recommending various businesses.

Let's try to get this forum back on track.

  8. BANGKOK

The owner of this Bangkok Language School is relocating overseas for study purposes, and must therefore listen to offers. Established five years ago in the Bangkapi region of the city, the school contains assets valued at 5,000,000 baht, and earns around 600,000 baht per annum in net profits form receipts of approximately 4,800,000 baht. All relevant licenses are in place, and the school is manned by 13 full time teaching staff earning a total wage bill of 250,000 baht per month. The other major overhead is rent, which is payable at a rate of 65,000 baht per month. The school is part of a well known franchise chain, and therefore has a regular stream of students that sign up for courses due to the renown of the company. (BKK12941)

  9. where family influence can come to bear.

Why speculate when the perp has not even been caught.

As for the above, do you not think the family of both the victim and her husband are

more likely to have some more influential friends than the murderer ?

Forums are about speculation as well as discussion.

The phrase you quote reads a little differently when take as a whole and in context with the rest of the post.

" but you'd be surprised how lightly some murderers get off, particularly in rural areas where family influence can come to bear. "

    Very doubtful in this case.

When they catch this guy, if they hav'nt already , they will have it in for him.

The victims family are very hi-so.
