There have been very few death sentences carried within the past decade. So, why are they now discussing this, but only for foreigners?

I happen to support the death sentence, when the crime is heinous, and when there are witnesses and sufficient evidence. Why keep them alive? Certain crimes are essentially a self revocation of the right to consume oxygen. But, can DNA evidence and the courts be trusted here?

In fact, Thailand does allow the death penalty, but it is rarely applied.

The federation said the kingdom would have achieved the status of "de facto abolitionist" had it not carried out any executions before August 24, 2019 — which would have represented 10 years after the last death sentences were carried out.

as how I understand it is that if you commit a crime and you admit it, the court gives a  death sentence turned into lifelong!

Did you see any life jackets? ????

    I noticed that as well!

furthermore these guys usually are experienced pilots who sometimes like to show off their 'skills' ! personally I like older pilots who don't need to impress anyone...

the boat that followed came to close but nothing really life threatening...

there must be nothing important going on if this gets a headline! ????

BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) – Deputy Pime Minister and Acting Justice Minister Wissanu Krue-ngam ordered the Corrections Department to provide security and appropriate convenience to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as he is set to return to Thailand on Aug 10 after 15 years in self-imposed exile.

Wissanu disclosed the post-arrival arrangements for Thaksin’s return, saying that preparations have been made in accordance with standard procedures. As for whether Thaksin will request a royal pardon, Wissanu clarified that it is a right held by all inmates, but they must be in the process of serving their sentences.

Once Thaksin has received his sentences, he can seek a royal pardon. The request for a royal pardon can be made within the first 24 hours of incarceration. If he is not granted a royal pardon this time, he will have to wait for another two years.

After his arrival, he will be escorted to receive the warrant at the Supreme Court and will be taken to detention facilities.

The decision on whether Thaksin will spend his time in a hospital or not will be left to the Department of Corrections, which oversees all inmates and their conditions. As Thaksin is currently 74 years old, he will be treated as an elderly inmate and can receive medical treatment he needs. However, Thaksin’s case cannot be confined to house arrest.  He must be incarcerated in prison.

can someone explain to me what is Thaksin's sickness? why would he need to be taken to a hospital?

he sure looks fine to me, especially since his return is in the pipeline!

I have lived in both Pattaya & Chiang Mai and am finding the Thai people in Pattaya very unfriendly or even nasty. Especially, but not solely, in places like banks, immigration or other offices like that.

Has anyone else noticed that? Or am I just running into the wrong people? Maybe it has something to do with Covid? What I would compare it to is living in Chiang Mai in the 5 years or so before Covid hit.

I'm considering moving back to the North of Thailand as soon as possible because of this. Then I find a family restaurant run by an Isaan family smack dab in the middle of Pattaya and it's like a breathe of fresh air. Felt like home with nice people again.

every resto with provincial owner has a relaxed feel, wherever you go.

about Ptya people: they are there to make money, simple as that! they dpn't really want to be there, but have because of work availability!

in ChiangMai the local people are gentle and kind and even speak slower. their cultural background (Lanna) makes them also proud!

Southerners are know for speed-talking! years and years of constant tourism have changed their kindness, their mentality is pretty spoiled, farangs would come spend money anyways... that changed a tiny bit after the tsunami, but until Covid they had always tourists.

I used to live on Samui for a number of years, travelled the southern provinces so I met several kinds of southern peeps! I like villagers much better than any city-locals! much more genuine and down to earth.

so after "thorough research" I moved to the North and still here, sabai-sabai 23 years and still happy! ????

Yes I went three for a week, nice bungalow on the beach with AC and hot water... lovely place.

now I live in the North for many years. but in the 80's and partly 90's lived on Samui and for a break we just would take the slowboat to K.Tao only to stay on K.NangYuan wich is owned by the LomPraya-family.

man, did we have a good time there snorkeling in daytime and indulging on food when dark!

then the cruise-ships started to come and let the passengers snorkle in 'our' area, the boatsmen would even tell us to go away because they were coming...

needless to say that that was the last time we went there...

so I never set foot on K.Tao, because NangYuan was all we wanted...

a pity that some of the families who 'run' that place have different intentions...

Also the import duty and tax on wine needs examination. In Italy last week I enjoyed a bottle of Pinot Grigio for 3 euros, probably 25% of the cost in Thailand.

The domestic wine industry is so small the excuse of protecting it is very shallow, the tax is more of an income generator for the Government.

domestic wines I find also not that tasty, believe me I did thorough investigation! ????

only PB comes near, but pricewise they are all way to expensive!

cut the import duty on foreign wine, obviously they are much better quality!

but if Thailand would do so it would be much more consumed and at the end the income in taxes the same as before...

als encouraging people to drink wine instead of hard liquor could be a game changer for this society!
