  1. odd, i'm pretty sure i've flown adelaide-singapore-chiang mai on singapore air with only a few hours in singapore.

just checked, yeah i did it 12 months ago with only 50 minutes layover in singapore. i remember now arguing with the travel agent i wasn't going to make the connecting flight with only 50 minutes in singapore... but i made it ok.

check, adelaide to singapore is the same time every day i think, but singapore to chiang mai changes with the day as there are 4 flights in the week but they aren't all the same time. some days it may connect, others it may not. i flew on a friday.

  2. Talk about unstable voltage, we're near the end of a service feeder so when the consumer load changes on the line our power jumps all around. It's the dips in the power where you draw more amperage, that is, his 4500 watt heater will require 20.45 amps if the line voltage is at optimum 220v.

Actually not quite right. You don't draw more current as the voltage drops but less as the heating element is a, for the most part, a constant resistance. You know I=V/R. ;)

actually, it's I=V/Z since we are talking AC.

  3. no1 bar gives you a small coke with the thai whisky,so in the end you have 2 drinks.not too bad really and a fair price

they don't give you the small coke to you, they charge for the shot and mixer separate. they are not the only bar that does this mind you, i know of at least 1 bar in the boxing that does this and have seen some others doing it too.

the thing is doing it this way, the mixer bottle makes up 2 drinks. so you either buy another shot, drink a piss weak drink or waste half the mixer bottle. the lovely ladies will ask you if you want another shot.

back on topic, the reason i asked, this could account for the extra 40 baht.

the other thing too, in some/most bars, the lady drinks are a standard price 100-120 baht unless they are drinking anything other than a standard/local drink (sangsom, chang etc). if they are drinking something more expensive/imported, the price goes up. this too could account for the extra 40 baht.

  4. with the trip to perth from darwin, i've done that on many occasions now, many different ways.

the 2 simplest routes are either up the coast or up the guts to port hedland.

my preferred route is perth-meekatharra-porthedland-broome-kununurra-darwin. that is up the guts.

or you can go perth-carnarvon-porthedland... up the coast, but then you miss the Hamersley range and Karijini, the most beautiful part of WA... unless you go perth-carnarvon-munjina-porthedland, that cuts straight through the range via the Nanutarra-munjina road (formerly the Nanutarra-Wittenoom road), but the road is dirt and goes through Wittenoom. very good condition though as it is maintained by BHP/RIO-TINTO/FORESCUE etc.

just be aware, if you go through the major mining/port centres, don't expect any accommodation on tuesday nights (FIFO crew change day), and every other night it will be funkin expensive. don't expect anything less than AU$200 a night for donga type accommodation. that is about Karratha, Derby, Port Hedland, Newman. it's hard to avoid, but my recommendation is munjina roadhouse if you can plan it. don't do capricorn or kumerina (they are cockroach infested toilets)... though i've heard capricorn has built some new dongas.

broome rocks. go to matsos for a beer and a feed.

avoid stopping in fitzroy crossing and halls creek (hells crack) for anything more than fuel unless you can get booked into the kimberly hotel at halls creek.

the drive between kununurra and katherine is picturesque. do katherine gorge if you have time.

do litchfield after that via batchelor to darwin.

and then darwin, Australias best city.

  5. What about Mobil 1 synthetic? Thats what i use to use. Didn't know there was non synthetic mobil one.

Mobil 1 synthetic diesel is widely available. I think I mentioned earlier it's only 5w/40. I sort of like a bit heavier grade for this climate. I believe there aren't any friction modifiers added to diesel specific oil. Regular Mobil 1 car oil I would never use for sure.

The bottle I have says "Mobil Delvac Super 1400, for Heavy Loaded Commercial Engines".

unless i missed something in the last 35 years of my life, Mobil 1 is the ExxonMobil Synthetic oil.

if it is missing the "1" in the Mobil name, it aint synthetic, just normal ExxonMobil dinosaur oil.

there is a mobil 1 delvac, but by going what your label says, what you have isn't the synthetic but the regular mineral stuff. that is why it costs you only 110baht/L.

the mobil 1 i stick in my bike is about 650baht/L (locally and worldwide) the Motul is upwards 900baht/L (by the 1L bottle).

  6. I stick Mobil1 5W30 in the click and Motul 300V Factoryline 10W40 in the Fino.

I've always used mobil1 in all the engines i've owned. The Motul is a change, but thats the best oil they have at the Yamaha dealership. nothing wrong with it (I actually think it's better than the mobil1) except that its real expensive.

they have yamalube engine and yama cvt oil in the dealer i go to in bkk ,ive never seen them using any other brands

The dealership on huay kaew road in CNX has Motul on the shelf.

  7. A little bit a sunday googling tells me there is no easy adjustment, the way to adjust the clutch is dismantle it to replace the springs inside. it could be the belt slipping too. either way something is slipping if the engine is revving and the bike stops moving.

something isn't right and i don't know enough about it. i guess i need to find someone to look at it.

    cheers.

  8. It maybe because i don't understand how they work, but it's not obvious to me how to adjust the clutch on these things.

firstly, the lady's fino needs quite a bit more revs compared to my click before the clutch engages, and when going up a hill, it tends to slip rather than engage it's been like this since new. side-by-side myself on the fino (1 person) and 2 people on the click on the same hill, the click just powers up the hill, the fino has the power but the clutch slips... the bike actually stopped moving.

i had the bike in the shop today for its 4k service, but the moment i tried ask about it, their ability to understand english ceased and weren't being very helpful.

on the semi-autos, the clutch adjustment is obvious and easy, though i can't seem to see where the adjustment is on the autos. where is it, or do they work differently to the semi-autos?

    cheers.

  9. Maybe since the GFC the OP has witnessed the economic sieve go through the expat community. The young funloving outgoing ones have left, and the more mature exhibiting ongoing symptoms you would normally see about Christmas or tax-time back home.

  10. With this altitude debacle can the readers be told if the Thai Airways B777 was on an ILS approach or on a VFR approach? There is a big difference regarding the approach to landing altitude between ILS and VFR.

the flight in question landed at night time, if that narrows it down for ya.

VFR or IFR is a trivial matter, ATSB/CASA wouldn't be investigating if the flight in question wasn't flying too low.

  11. PTP will be in power during economic growth phase of the world economy, everyone will be cheering PTPs economic policy irrespective of the fact it will be riding on the back of something they have very little control over.

It will be the same across the world, regardless of the policies of the respective governments has, even if it hinders growth during this time, growth is growth so will be applauded.

and they will probably deliver on the 300baht promise (and the other stuff), though i doubt they would have been able to deliver had they been in power 3 years ago.

you talk some rot don't you , but i do understand full well as you are always printing the same when you are on that you dont like the Reds, to you if the do bad it will be see i told you so , and if they do well it's what is going on in the world..................you have so many bright ideas don't you !

    <deleted>???

  13. "When we are in power for a long time, sometimes we may use power too much," Thaksin said.

I'm not sure if that means when you are in power for a long time you are allowed to use power too much.

though, in context he was asked about his mistakes... an admission of guilt? after all, he was found guilty of abusing his authority.

well it's been translated, maybe it gained or lost some meaning there somewhere.
