  1. Just got in--was at tae pae gate-starbucks and they were set up in full force---i was on foot and came back around 11pm--they had a few cars pulled over as well as mbikes--some bikes looked like they were heading to the impound--a few thais--guy and girl doing the breath test--looked like a few might be going to the pokey----seemed to be random pullovers--luck of the draw for the drunks

--even had the alleys blocked off for those that spotted them ahead and tried to make a break 4 it

seemed a little "showy" its TP gate and i can think of many other more popular watering holes if they wanna catch drunkies---just appeared they were putting on a little show for all the tourists--

"oh look honey CMs finest" always thinking of us and have our best interest at hand--kudos boys!

i find this location curious. it seems you can go from anywhere in town to spicey and leave again without going through the checkpoint.
  2. What is the difference between rice and oil? The OPEC cuts supply, oil prices sky rockets. When it eases supply, oil prices go down. But when it comes to rice, the rules are changed? Dumping happens when a country is selling a commodity to the global market as prices lowers than what it sells for domestically - at least that is how I understand this economic term. If Thailand were to release its stock of rice, the price of global rice will decrease. However, if that rate is still higher than the domestic price of rice, it should not be termed as dumping.

If Thailand releases it's rice at less than what they pay for it it is called dumping.

This is a real possibility as they are running out of places to store their rice and may have to get rid of some to make room for the new year's crop.

Let's have another red barby in middle of BKK! Half a mill tonnes or so!

I wonder if the rice is insured.
  3. Yesterday

"Justice Minister Pracha Promnok yesterday dismissed reports that Thai politicians had sent Bt16 billion to Hong Kong, saying anti-money laundering agencies from other countries, including Hong Kong, had denied the report."

    Today

"Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) detected an illegal money transfer from Thailand but decided to drop the case because Thai authorities had failed to file a complaint, a graft buster said yesterday."

    Tomorrow

    ???

another news source is reporting a follow-up to this.
  4. Not baiting’ after all that useful training from the Thai police [ a general no less ] how to run things properly, I hope the Ozzie police will go home now and then smash up all there traffic speed guns because last time I was in Oz I had tons of speeding tickets on the spot fines at the road side, and other ones posted to my home address in the UK more to life than speeding tickets, a police man behind every bush in Oz with a radar gun,

I think simple1 was asking harryfrompattaya.
  5. now 12am is a little more flexible, 2 years ago the 12am was very hard-fast... even spicy had to close early some nights.

it seems we remember things a little differently.

"some nights" = very hard-fast rule?

Yes, I remember things very differently. Other than during brief curfew period, I don't remember Warm-Up, Monkey Club, Riverside, etc ever shutting down at 12am. Can you please remind me when that was exactly?

sorry. i'm wrong you're right. it never happened.
  6. I have the funny feeling that you are referring to allowing "selected" night venues to operate past the legally mandated 2am closing.

Chiang Mai went from flexible 2am closing to hard-fast 12am closing about 2 years ago.

This is *HIGHLY* inaccurate. The only places that were being shut down, were the small group of bars on Loi Kroh Rd. Most everything else is staying open later than that, including a hand full of bars on Loi Kroh. Even the mid-night closing time is no longer a "hard-fast" rule on Loi Kroh anymore. The powers that be have informed some of the bars they just have to turn the music down/ off at midnight but not close.

All the bars in the Reggae area (with the occasional exception of Zoe in Yellow Bar), Warm-up, Monkey Club, Riverside, Goodview, Fabrique, etc, etc, were never under some hard-fast 12am closing time rule.

  7. This red shirt thing is typical The Nation spin.

They could also have stated that he was among the longest serving governnors in the country (see Wikipedia); a change was simply due. Also because he governed very different from his own claims of being only a facilitator, he instead took it upon himself to orgestrate crackdowns for example on nightlife of any kind.

Good riddance. And don't buy the spin.

    +1
  8. Just for fun,but in the interests of honest debate, what is the real objection to someone like Thaksin as " Emperor "

What if Thai politics takes a course that you don't approve ?

Will he be wearing a long cape with a hood and shoot sparks from his finger tips when he gets pissed at someone?

  9. Another act of bastardy by Thai law enforcement agencies. This man's management knew of this efforts and the likely outcome. Yet he was not provided any protection or transferred.

Protection. By whom? He was straining against the very fabric of Thai society. The man was a Demi-God. He was the Anna Hazari of Thailand. If he were Catholic, there is a chance he would be beautified by the church, and become a saint. This man heard an inner voice, and followed it against all odds. His life was an example to the entire nation. Hopefully his death will be a wake up call. Thailand is marching backwards at an alarming pace. It is defying all odds. When it comes to industry, tourism, flood control, obeying the ASEAN charter, and many other areas, they are marching backwards, and much to the detriment of the Thai people. On Samui the local people are on a suicide mission. Even though tourism is falling off, the prices are going up, at an alarming pace. People just do not see how destructive their thoughtless actions are. The only thing that is competitive on Samui are the house rentals. All else has no connection to reality. The hotel people would rather run a 50% vacancy level, than lower their prices. I see restaurants that recently opened, with very high prices (comparable to Los Angeles, or Sydney) that are nothing special on any level. They sit nearly empty night, after night. And this is during the mini high season. Does anyone figure it out? Does anyone connect the corruption here with a declining way of life?

If he was catholic? Samui rent prices too expensive for you? You can't afford to eat out in Samui?

I don't understand your post and it's relation to this topic.

  10. I was not able to find a service manual for this bike

    http://www.aphonda.co.th/technology/manual.html

It would be good if there was a plug in device one could use with a home computer and check things out like this.

there is a data link connector, no doubt that there is a honda diagnostics box to plug in here. otherwise the manual shows how to jumper this connector and it will start flashing the check engine light with any error codes.

  11. yes in thai, thai bikes in thailand need user/service/training manuals and what i posted is on the thai honda site. so no surprise there.

i'm still sifting through it all. i've noticed where things are common between models, they might touch on something in one training manual (i.e..click-i) and then go into more detail in another (i.e.. scoop-i) manual.

    good stuff.
