the other night there were five customers in Billboard GoGo and 37 dancers, 18 of them going around and around on the carousel with not much chance of getting off. pun intended.

a little known economic indicator that I use.

Below is the age demographics for Thailand and the UK (2018), as you can clearly see, the UK has 8% more population in the +65 bracket, 8% is the equivalent of 5.5 million more elderly people. Fair to say that with 5.5 million more elderly - 2million of which are over 85 - It's not surprising therefore that we rate higher than a country that has less old people - the CDC says you are 630 more times likely to die than others 18-29 group. Think that pretty much sums things up. And add in UK obesity................Basically you take care of the old and FAT - you end up worst when an unknown sickness comes along

    Thailand

    0-14 years: 16.73% (male 5,880,026 /female 5,598,611)
    15-24 years: 13.83% (male 4,840,303 /female 4,649,589)

65% of Covid related deaths in the UK have been in the over 80s - more men than women. The black and Asian communities have been disproportionately affected and as a previous post states this is a combination of cultural and religious reasons of not following advice. There is also a problem for dark skinned people not creating vitamin D due to weak sun light in the northern hemisphere. Vitamin D is very important for a strong immune system.

  3. I've improved the IPTV buffering on my Firestick by connecting directly to my router with an ethernet cable using an adaptor I bought from Amazon. It also helps if you close down progs running in the background using an app called 'background apps & process list' as this frees up ram. The budget IPTV are all pretty much the same and as the OP commented are supplied by resellers. I currently pay 3200 baht PA which allows me 2 logins. The live TV is not so good but the films and box sets are excellent.

because testing is mostly or solely done on those in quarantine, it is only finding positive case of those in quarantine, when it could easily be out in the general population.

    This sounds plausible...

I've always suspected the virus  SARS-CoV-2 is more prevalent in Thailand than the authorities admit but then it would appear the general populous do not go on to develop the disease Covid 19 or certainly not in any great numbers.

If you are a British citizen and a British passport holder, its not open to interpretation, its down to your declaration, just tell anyone who asks (I have never been asked) that your return is permanent. The same day you arrive in the UK, you can register with a GP and avail yourself of the full benefits of the NHS. IME all you need is an address and two proofs of that address. I have always kept a postal address in the UK. I took 2 bank statements from 2 separate banks to my GP, no further questions asked.

That's exactly what I thought but I'm currently in the UK and having treatment and before you go for your appointment you have to fill in a questionnaire. This is mostly about your current medical condition and any prescription drugs you take etc..... but there was a question that asked have I been outside of the UK for more than one year. I presume if you answer yes it will trigger further investigations. I'm going to return every year and see my family plus pop in my GPs for a health check. As a retiree I'm perfectly entitled to be on permanent holiday.

There is an original bridge (what is left of it) and the newer railway bridge (amongst others).

If we are being pedantic be sure to refer to it as menam Kwaire....... not Kwai.

Thanks for the info, we were taken to the new bridge downtown (near a wonderful market area) and told nothing of the original Kwaire bridge that was left.

Pedantic ? Heck thanks, that's the best I've been called on a Forum for quite some time. ????

Lets be even more pedantic. Both bridges were built over the Mae Klong river in 1943 by POWs. There was a wooden temporary bridge and a metal railway bridge which were both used for 2 years before the allies bombed them. The wooden bridge was left but the steel railway bridge was rebuilt so the existing bridge is still part original. The author of the book 'Bridge Over the River Kwai' knew that the railway ran parallel with the river Khwae and wrongly assumed it crossed the Khwae. After the international success of the film the locals renamed the Mae Klong river, Khwae Yai (this means Khwae Big as the original river Khwae is a smaller subsidiary of the main river). There no definitive romanization of the Thai word for the rivers name so the film makers chose Kwai as it was easier than longer long translations.

    My 3BB 1GB (631bht/month) rarely makes it to 500MB.

    Don't believe the fake numbers.

    That’s likely a hardware problem.

For an accurate speed test you need to connect directly to the router with at least a cat5e (cat6 preferable) cable using a device with a 1GB network connection (check your device is connecting to the router at 1000 meg). When running your web based speed test try and choose a server as close to your location as possible and this will give you an indication of your actual speed. Latency caused by too many hops or server errors increase the further away the test server is.

Forget it! Who is so stupid to take a vaccine, developed and tested in less than year?

Add in to that: most of the vaccines based on some RNA/DNA segments - nice idea, to be a guinea pig in a huge gene experiment...

Actually it is not developed and tested in less than 1 year. The vaccine has been in development for about 5 years, the accelerated bit is the adjusting for it to specifically target COVID, do a bit of research. To develop a brand new vaccine in 1 year is impossible. So, my view is you would be stupid not to take it. I guess it's up to you..

The DNA from Covid 19 is injected into an existing vaccine and then testing begins. Phase 1 and 2 of the Oxford vaccine have proved very successful so they have now moved on to phase 3 clinical trials which, if successful, will result in a viable vaccine available early next year. AstraZeneca have already ramped up production in anticipation of a successful trial. AstraZeneca will have close to 3 billion doses available by the end of the year and that's more than a third of the worlds population in one tranche. So Pattaya may bounce back faster than we think.

I suspect the Russian vaccine has not been clinically trialled allowing them to bring it to market early.

Have you tried physical therapy. i had a large disk herniation last year was extremely painfull and had terrible weakness in my legs. i managed to correct it 100% with specialized physical therapy and massage.

I had 3 vertebrae L5, 4 and 3 fused in an operation 25 years ago and this has put pressure on the vertebrae above and below due to lack of flexibility. I'm afraid the prolapsed disc between L3 and L2 will not respond to physio but thank you for the suggestion.

  11. I have a herniated disc in my lumbar region and I need microdiscectomy surgery (sometimes called microdecompression). This isn't a complicated or long procedure so I'm sure there will be a number of surgeons in Bangkok competent enough to carry out this operation. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for this surgery?

  12. The WiFi on ADSL routers are all pretty poor. I invested in a Ubiquiti external WiFi access point and it solved all my problems. It's a bit pricey but you can take it with you. It broadcasts at 2.4 and 5GHz so IoT devices connect at 2.4 and essential devices connect to the faster 5GHz network. I connected the AP directly to the router using a CAT6 cable. For best coverage the device needs fixing to the ceiling and not the wall.
