  1. HSBC/First Direct and Natwest are not closing accounts or simply use a Wise account.
  2. What I stated is exactly what the article says. My quote "then your untaxed earnings from abroad will now be subject to tax no matter when you bring them into Thailand." I never said all your untaxed earning will be subject to tax but only the ones you bring into Thailand, whether it's the year you earn them or later years. They are trying to close a loop hole.
  3. I had the same experience with Bangkok Bank - they would not let me open a second account so I went elsewhere. Immigration told me I couldn't use a certificate of residence to open a bank account so I told them it was for a driving licence. I paid my 500 baht (the certificates are supposed to be free) and used it to open a bank account with Kasikorn.
  4. There has been an official announcement. Currently if you have untaxed income from abroad and you don't bring it on shore to Thailand in the year you earn it then in future years it was exempt from tax. The new Departmental Instruction No. Por 161/2566 (“DI No. 161/2566”) changes that and if you are resident in Thailand, that is stay more than 180 days in a year, then your untaxed earnings from abroad will now be subject to tax no matter when you bring them into Thailand. This does NOT affect income you have already been taxed on in your home country if Thailand has a double taxation agreement. Going forward we may need to prove the money we are bringing in has already been taxed which will be a real pain. International accountants KMPG have supplied their take on it. https://kpmg.com/th/en/home/insights/2023/09/th-tax-news-flash-issue-145.html?fbclid=IwAR1kEo_QrnHc2SH10G16TJICnIdzRh4f5L5wUFol_n4tDO7b5h6ZGqp4oE8
  5. From my experience with my spinal surgery and ongoing lumbar back pain I can completely concur with Sheryl's advice. I also have had good success with mckenzie exercises - google it. chok dee
  6. UK's economy is no worse than the rest of Europe. Germany, Holland, Greece and Ireland are all currently in recession but don't let that get in the way of your remoaner obsession.
  7. Not true. The age of legal consent is 15 if he/she is in her own home when he/she consents or if outside the parents give consent. Otherwise it is 18
  8. ...and he still doesn't know what he wants to do when he leaves school ????
  9. I'm afraid you only have one option and that is to obtain an emergency travel document from your embassy and most can only be used once and only enroute to your home country. You will then have to renew your passport and obtain the correct visa to return to Thailand.
  10. The bride must be a virgin to demand a large dowry. If she has been married before then maybe a small one but if she has children then the family should pay you. That's how a lawyer explained it to me some 20 years ago. I think the same advice is on Siam Legal's website.
  11. 3/ Book a fake flight, there are many websites, that costs about $12 or I used and last years flight flight and just changed the dates. When the visa is issued you get 90 days before you have to use it so you don't have to travel on the dates you stated. 4/ Just book a hotel for a couple of days that is free to cancel and upload the confirmation. The reason 5 & 6 are not on the help page is because they're not applicable to your visa. A very poorly designed website. Just upload a blank document for 5 & 6. 7/ upload a recent bank statement. 8/ upload any recent official document with your UK address - bank statement, driving licence etc.
  12. Visa-exempt entries are single entry so are cancelled when you leave. The good news is when you return you will get another free 30 days visa-exempt entry. However, as you have a very awkward 33 day stay you must consider your options. 1/ A 3 day overstay will cost 1500 baht in fines and you will get a nasty black overstay stamp in your passport. If by chance you were caught/arrested during the 3 day overstay then you will be heading to immigration detention cells in Bangkok. 2/ Attend any immigration office and extend you stay by 30 days and cost 1900 baht. Pop in your chosen office and ask what is required as it can vary slightly from office to office. 3/ Obtain a 60 day Tourist (TR) Visa before you come. Costs around 1400 baht. 4/ Do a border bounce at sometime during your stay. That is leave the country by land, air or sea and when you return you will get another fresh 30 free visa-exempt entry. You can do this twice a calendar year by land but almost unlimited by air. The beauty of this option is you get to see one of the neighbouring countries and the 1900 baht you saved can go towards the cost. Avoid the Poipet border point as they have a very poor reputation.
  13. Money talks. This was all arranged before he came back and is nothing new in Thailand.
  14. I stopped using a local pizza shop as there was sugar sprinkled on my margarita. Thais use sugar in most of their cooking so no wounder they have such a diabetes problem. My wife is the only person in her family over 40 that does not have diabetes and it killed her father at just 73 years old.
  15. Just get it at the airport
  16. Every immigration office has a dress code, not just Jomtien, whether people follow it or not is another matter. Like you I always wear long trousers and a shirt with a collar
  17. He's not being charged with having sex with her as that is not illegal but apparently this is his charge: "taking a minor who is over 15 years old but not exceeding 18 years old away from their parents, guardian, or caretaker without reasonable cause, willingly and intentionally." or in other words he didn't pay her parents any money - the relationship has been going 5 months. In the UK having sex with this girl would illegal as anyone with a duty of care (teachers etc) cannot have sex with them until they're 18 even thought the age of sexual consent is 16.
  18. They were both very healthy. One was a fitness fanatic, mountain climbing etc age 56 and the other was a landscape gardener, age 51. Neither overweight. I've been told that Colon cancer is very slow growing so they would have both had it for some time. My colonoscopy was clear but my neighbours was not and she had to have polyps lasered off. Polyps can, but most don't, become cancerous. I suspect diet as opposed to life style is the cause of this type of cancer.
  19. The government have threatened to close FB down but it is now the only way citizens can get justice.
  20. I lost two friends to colon cancer in there 50s so I think everyone over 50 should have a colonoscopy. An ApoB blood test is also important for heart disease risk.
  21. That's my experience with bullies - once they've been stood up to they back off and when they return they want to be your best friend
  22. Wise is not a bank but will supply you with an account number and sort code from a partner bank. Here is the statement from Wise https://wise.com/us/blog/wise-as-bank-account#:~:text=Does Wise count as a,but a Money Services provider.
