Maybe if the Karens would stop fighting for a homeland within a sovereign country (Myanmar) it would go better for them. They are little different than Islamists around the world fighting a holy war for their own territory.
I don't think Islamic extremists trying to terrorise the world into accepting an archaic version of Islam is a good analogy.
The borders and boundaries in this part of the world have always been moved around. During WW2 the Karens were encouraged to help the British in their fight with the Japanese and in return the would be given autonomy from Burma. However, when the war ended the British reneged on this promise and just gave Burma its independence.

Do doctors actually give you a prescription you can take to a pharmacy to buy meds?
I have always gotten the drugs from the doctor or hospital.
They encourage or infer you have to buy the drugs they supply but you can ask for a prescription and buy them much more cheaply at a Pharmacy.

If you have missing years before April 2016 it may not be worth making extra contributions. This article explains https://www.moneywise.co.uk/pensions/income-retirement/should-i-make-the-shortfall-my-national-insurance-contributions

Sound familiarThere is no EU military. EU is an economic and political Union, exclusive of military.
There will be one soon https://www.politico.eu/article/angela-merkel-emmanuel-macron-eu-army-to-complement-nato/

Sorry i disagree with people getting upset when a doctor tells the truth.
Doctors were telling me and my wife 8 months to 1 year and you will be walking again.
My wife got angry with me when i told them BS, my spinal cord is broken and i know i will never walk again.
Only 1 doctor told the truth his words were....you can only look forward to a wheelchair nothing more, and i thanked him for being truthful, the others were telling me what they thought i wanted to hear.
It was always thought that they could never repair injured spinal cords but they are making great progress with regenerating nerves injuries so don't give up hope Colin.

Some Thais...banking, immigration, healthcare...appear to enjoy making a farang's blood boil. Why you ask...because they can...makes for great conversation at evening dinner.
Probably the only time in their life when they can hold sway (power) over a rich farang and they intend to make you sure you know who has the power.

The cop feared for his life. 50 to 1, ok to shoot.. cop goes home alive.. and I no friend of cops...
He tried firing shots in the air first but didn't work so he had no choice if his life was in danger. I wonder if the people who disagree would stand there and be beaten to death instead.

Much more pain ahead when money tightens up after Brexit. If you are a shareholder you have to be concerned when management decides to sell the more profitable portion of the business. Seems the share price has dropped 90% in the last dozen years.
How do you know what will happen after Brexit? Brexit has never been done before so no one knows. Previous predictions by Bank of England and IMF have all proved to be wrong yet you seem to be in the know. I suggest your statement should be prefixed with 'I predict'. However, I agree this mostly German-owned company is not in good shape and in general high street travel agents are in decline.

A nice break for them from telling the usual penurious geriatrics that they're "sexy man."
I only hope the sailors have been warned that some of the most attractive "girls" may not be all they appear to be.
Apparently, sailors don't care ????

Gulf Air from LHR to BKK is really very nice on 'Dreamliners' which are less than one year old. The airport at Bahrain is tiny, so 90 minute transfers are problem free, bags always turn up in bkk. Food, staff, wine, entertainment are all superb. However, prices have gone up with new fleet of 787's.
I used to date a girl in Manchester (UK) who was cabin crew on Gulf Air. She was half Greek half Ethiopian and gorgeous. Unfortunately, they changed her route and she said if we were to continue I would have to move to Bahrain as she loved it there. Thinking back I should have moved ????

i am seriously thinking about moving. i should have never come here. my first thought was to buy the cheapest bar on soi 6 in Pattaya and convert it into a bookstore and live upstairs.
I think a religious reading room would be better than a book store ????

Last time I was there I did Verdun, the Vosges, Metz....Im thinking of Ypres on this one ????
Ypres is a great base for a battlefield tour WW1. The last post ceremony at the Menin Gate at 8 pm every evening is very moving. We also did day trips to Ghent (my fav better than Brugge) and Lille. We also got the Eurostar from Lille to London. One of the best trips I've ever been on and the beer in Belgium is fantastic.

Just for the record, you can get a British return ETD if you live in the country you are applying from. It's a one trick pony as it will only let you travel the route you declare (which is printed on the document). You can also apply for an urgent passport in the UK (twice the price as a normal one) which requires you to make an online appointment at least 2 days in advance - the passport is issued 30 mins after the appointment.

The most common contracted infections from pools are gastrointestinal, eye and ear infections. The Op has probably just contracted a common airborne viral infection or if he has suffered from Dengue fever in the past this could be another serotype where his immunity reduces the full dengue symptoms. As stated before antibiotics have no effect on viral infections, in fact, they suppress your own immune system which is working full time fighting the virus.

Many years ago in central Thailand, I observed an old man eating food at a stall with his fingers and asked why he doesn't use a spoon and fork? The reply was older people shit in the trees and clean their bum with the left hand and eat food with their right hand. I personally think we have taken hygiene too far in the west but in Thailand, they haven't taken it far enough. I remember sitting on a beach in Phuket about 15 years ago and watching the staff from a beach restaurant sitting on a towel and preparing 100s of prawns where there seemed no attention to hygiene, but we ate their many times and were fine. However, on valentines night we ate in a high-end expensive restaurant on the cliff top where the owner boasted he had worked all over Europe - we both suffered food poisoning after that meal.

This symbol on the Buddha is not a swastica. The Nazi symbol is based on an ancient Aryan symbol. The "arms" of Nazi symbol face the other way to this one.
The symbol on the Buddha is a symbol used to represent the sun. The Nazis changed the ancient symbol. The ancient symbol is still used in Buddhist rites.
The Nazi symbol is now used to depict mass murder and total intolerance. It is an evil symbol.
It should never be seen and the fact it is worn indicates a desperate lack of education and humanity.
If you read the wiki article it explains that the Hindu religion uses both clockwise and counterclockwise swastikas - with the name Swastika coming from Sanskrit. However, the girl in the band is wearing a T-shirt depicting a Nazi war flag so no confusion with Hinduism at all.

As previously stated all UK citizens have unfettered access to the NHS unless they reside abroad. No matter where you choose to live you will never cease to be a UK citizen unless you renounce citizenship. You can return to the UK whenever you wish and just give the hospital your name, DOB and NI or NHS number - a UK address and GP would be beneficial but not compulsory. You do not have to explain your presence there or where you have been although not giving a UK address will prompt further questions.

Yes, I assume they overbook to the point that they're more likely to err on the side of bumping people than having empty seats?
If a flight is overbooked they choose some people at check-in who look like they could be business class passengers and give them a free upgrade (usually people with frequent flyer miles and no kids). If business class is full some lucky business class customers will get a free upgrade to 1st class - which is never full.

somebody said-'spending the kids inheritence'.... i seriously object to that attitude--this is 2019..i hope not too many of you retirees are saving your money for the next generation ..
i taught my kids to create their own investments-early in life--they have done so---live great lives....
my pension is small, but i have good income from commercial property, selling more houses over next few yrs...most will go to a charitable trust in nz -when im gone..
[looking after sick kids}...
i still live to a budget, but each year increasing my spending.... i dont think the money is much good to me in my eighties---i like being a butterfly in thailand... im generous with the girls but not stupid....
im soo glad that i dont have to scrimp in my retirement yrs----but of course i have made many sacrifices in 40 previous yrs , to achieve that ...
once again---we reap what we sow......of course there is the odd exceptions, due to illness etc---
many men use their divorces, as an excuse for having very little in retirement yrs.. thats a feeble excuse...
I'm a Ski'er - Spending Kids Inheritance ???? My Thai wife earns more than me so I plan to be a kept man ???? Seriously tho' I have investment income in the UK and will draw 4 small pensions in 2 years but for now I'm still working. I'm lucky in that I can return to the UK and pick up short term contracts when if need be so I don't plan to sit on my arse.

I did wonder if it was a just a Hindu swastika but I've seen her picture on BBC website and it's actually a Nazi war flag replete with swastikas. I just wonder who is making these shirts - they must know how insulting they are.

Oh no, you are mistaken. The UK will negotiate wonderful trade deals with.........uh,........Belarus and......Venezuela and.......Eritrea....just to name a few!!
56% of UK exports already go to countries outside of the EU - 95% of British companies do not export to the EU at all. So all these predictions of doom and gloom seem rather hollow. There are so many 'experts' making predictions on Brexit so how do they become 'experts' on a subject that has never happened before?

You only need a small one - no worse than carrying a pepper spray. A water pistol with water vinegar mix works better than a pepper spray.
