  1. I don't know for sure - but I have been obsessively following this forum because my daughter-in-law made her application for spouse visa recently and I helped her with it - but an earlier post was about a stressed wife who was NOT allowed to show her digital camera photographs at the interview, and was very upset about it.

To be really confident, she should print them out and put them in an album that the ECO can flip through quickly. That is what my daughter-in-law has done.

Yes you right you need to print photos off and put the in a simple album for evidence purpose.

  2. It seems to have gone dead again, There seems to be no movement after, Bukseeda, so near yet so far,

I think it might be that there are so few of us now waiting, not sure if this is a sign that less are applying for visas or just less are using this forum, perhaps 92 pages is putting a few people off reading and joining the list?

I've been thinking the same. If there are so few applications now why is it taking so long for decisions (it did get down to 9wks at one stage) or perhaps previous posts have given ppl the info they need so they haven't joined. Anyway the service has deteriorated to the point where the Border Agency are now breaching their own guidelines so now is the time to lodge formal complaints.

  3. By the way, is there a time-limit for the first entry into the UK once you've got the fiance visa? The reason I ask is that the missus now wants to get a flight on 25th Sept. The visa is valid from 1st Sept. Is this going to be a problem?

    Cheers.

I almost sure somebody said previously the visa must be used within 30 days of issue or it becomes invalid...but I might have dreamt it 'cos I'm sleeping like a twig at the mo' with all the stress.

  4. Just got a call from missus. She's received a message telling her to pick up passport between three and four thirty. Unfortunately as she received the message at 4.20, there's no way she can pick it up in time.

Anyway, I've asked her to give them a call and see if they'll tell result over 'phone (which i doubt).

Will keep you informed as per the decision. BUt anyway, it IS a decision either way. That's 12 weeks 1 day.

At last...great news Bukseeda. Good Luck with the decision.

As it went I day over their guidelines do you get your money back? lol

  5. Do they not realise how important it is to supply correct current information on this?

    Andrewy

spot on. they are providing no form of individualised service whatsoever which is outrageous when we're paying £600 which more than covers their costs.

The current high visa fees, for in and out of UK applications, were set by Gordon Brown when he was chancellor as a way of raising money for the exchequer. They bear absolutely no relation to the actual cost of the service.

How much VFS keep I don't know, but suspect that it is very little. If memory serves, before the VFS fee was absorbed into the overall visa fee it was something like an extra 300baht per application. Can anyone say for sure?

I can see no contradiction on the VAC website over processing times. As ever, they give a minimum and a maximum time, together with a link to the current times. (See Guide to Processing Times.)

For as long as I can remember, going back to pre-VAC days, the official advice has always been "We recommend that you allow at least a month (for non-settlement) and 3 months (for settlement)." I understand that even at the busiest period recently, 90% of applications were dealt with within these time scales.

You're absolutely right the fees bear no relation to cost and are just another stealth tax. Those of you who haven't been back to the UK for a while will soon fall prey to Gordon Brown and his stealth taxes - they're everywhere. Meanwhile I think the Embassy has closed for August..not funny I know but it seems they have for settlement visas.

  6. Mentioned somewhere back in this thread that the UK is a big target.

How does anyone with a Chinese mother tongue manage to scam the Brits? Must be even more stupid than I thought, or are these highly educated Chinese/Taiwanese with well-honed English - I suspect not, lets go with the even more stupid hypothesis!

    [signed, a Brit]

All large UK companies use foreign call centres - it's now unusual to speak to anyone English. I am in Manchester at the mo and every shop I go in is staffed by foreigners and 20% of customers are too but that's no excuse for greed which is how boiler rooms work. Just like my Nigerian friend who keeps wanting to put £45 million in my bank account so we can share when he gets to the UK, all I have to do is send my bank details :)

  7. Thailand is probably a very good place to do these sort of scams. I can see my wife being taken in very easily by these things, she's always buying stuff from people who say it's a great cure for <insert ailment here>. Look at the Brands product! would that sell anywhere else?? (ok, maybe China)

I agree my GF is a sucker for anything with a discount - she doesn't look at the price only the discount.

  9. The UK Government is currently paying out more in welfare benefit than it receives in income tax so has now become desperate to reduce the number of people who claim benefits. This has probably resulted in the current clampdown on bogus colleges and student visas but I suspect has also shifted the emphasis on settlement visas to proving you can support yourself and partner without claiming from public funds. Thailand is not a hotspot for bogus marriage scams or arranged marriages so I think the authorities are less interested in this than the financial side.

  11. My MIL has been ill for about 2 months. (BTW she is a really nice person)

Local doctors in Lat Yao have not given a diagnosis.

The prescribed pills have not helped. (I have yet to find out what the pills contain)

She has constant dizziness and lethargy which makes it hard for her to get out of bed.

Up until recently she was quite fit and did a lot of work in the fields.

She is a happy person, so depression can be ruled out.

Last July we had a plague of ticks around the house.

The dogs always have a lot of them.

I'm wondering if she has picked up a tick-borne disease?

Can somebody recommend a good English-speaking doctor in NS.

MIL does not want to go to BKK, but I will insist if she can't get a cure in NS.

    Any advice welcome

Sounds like Lyme Disease...do they have it in Thailand?...you get it from Tick bites. Google it or try Net Doctor for more info

  12. Slim Club. No, not for dieting. It is the name of the new club that opened a couple of weeks back. I popped in last night for a couple of hours. The place started to fill up after midnight.

Low lights, more strobe type lighting, rap and techno based music with a D.J.

A lot of younger Thai people in there in their early 20's. A friendly bunch of people. Had half a dozen come over to chat. Males and females. Obviously they do not see many of us old Caucasian folks around that much.

Plenty of people dancing and having a good time. More like a proper disco, really.

Prices reasonable with Soda more expensive than Pepsi!!

All in all a pleasant experience, but I am content to have low lights and rap/techno music for a change, maybe not to everyones taste.

The venue moves on Thursday to the first floor of Yellow building next door. Located at the bottom right hand corner of Sawan Park (away from Big C ) and near 7/11. 400 metres down, on the right, from Teuk Thai apartments.

Thanks for the info...my kids are coming to visit in the new year and Slim sound right up there street.

  13. I've a friend who is in Germany on a visa who wishes to travel over to the UK whilst in Europe. I know it sounds simple to say that they just have to apply for a visa to the UK but the situation is not the same as they are already in Germany, some paperwork is perhaps not in Germany and they would not be returning to Thailand but rather to Germany.

The other thing is the likely waiting time. They want the visa and then get the tickets etc.

I'm not sure if they are staying with friends or in hotels. If hotels then no reservation could be made beforehand getting the visa obviously and if staying at a friends then does that friend have to form part of the visa application ?

I'd guess it would be easier if they could just be given a visa for a week or so and pop over whenever the flight was cheapest. They'd already have insurance etc. from their German visa application I suppose.

    Any pointers ?

  14. My wife and me are planning to visit Thailand for 90 days. We want to work from there: All we need is Internet and our laptops. Therefor internet is extremely important for us. We have not yet decided what area we want to visit in Thailand, but it seems that we are a little limited with our choices regarding the available internet connections. Islands for example seem out of the questions from what I've heard, since there is often power outage and internet is far from stable. Are Islands really that bad? Are there any other areas we should avoid?

We probably want to try to rent an apartment for 90 days. From what I've seen quite some appartments offer internet. Is the quality of an avarage ADSL connection offered in appartments / hotels in Thailand any good? Also, is it worth it to order wire broadband (cell phone) as well? I heard there's not 3G yet, but DTAC has unlimited GPRS for 20 EUR a month? Could this be usefull as an extra backup or is really too slow to work with? I have no clue about the coverage either...

I'm aware of the fact that Internet in Thailand will never be 'Western style', but one day internet outage would be quite problematic...

We are open for ANY suggestions of location to settle for 90 days, as long as it's not Bangkok (too busy), Phuket, Pattaya or any other similar mass-tourism location. :o

I stayed in Lamia on Koh Samui recently and on the main road back to Charweng was a state of the art internet building allowing users to use their own laptops and private rooms at very reasonable prices. Sumizing you won't be working all day this would allow you to stay anywhere and just use the internet building for work.
