  1. Only did it once,so that makes OK in his eyes, lynch mob, too bloody slow

    regards worgeordie

Do you promote lynch mobs before a trial?

yes when the mans admitted to the rape of a child

What if the guilty party is from a rich family and the child's mother won't let it go even tho' the investigation has stalled. The rich family pay to have a scapegoat forced into confession. The child's mother may even know he's not guilty but what can she do? She will just have to watch you lot or a mob lynch him. Justice...Thai style. It's just rather suspicious that a stalled investigation suddenly comes up trumps after the Mother appeals to a higher authority. Welcome to Thailand - keep your head down and your nose clean and don't judge or somebody will pay to have you judged.

  2. Alliances have been made and broken , some good some bad

    history shows Thailand made the wrong choice at that time ;

the choices made now Thailand , will be evaluated in history,

    some good , some bad

The wrong choice? on a pragmatic level it was a briliantly lucky choice, they were spared the destruction and enslavement the Japs would have inflicted had they resisted and then when they lost, the Yanks forgave reparations.... brilliant.

wars rarely turn out the way anyone expects,

and history is written by the victors

  3. I get great customer service at TMB (Thai Military Bank). And, like Bangkok Bank, TMB has an international branch -- only instead of New York, it's in the Cayman Islands. Hey, I wonder if that is where all the bonus money went from that Thai aircraft carrier that has no airplanes. Maybe it will receive the retirement bounty from the submarine purchase. Anyway, handy to have that Cayman Islands account for the unusually big money that sometimes comes to those who fight corruption.

I also very much like TMB's "no fee account." I can transfer money anywhere in the country with no fees.

55555555 Cayman Islands! that says it all.

  4. Unless you, or somebody with extensive Thailand experience, is acting as a chaperone/guide, tell them to forget it. They'll be ripped off by taxi and tuk tuk drivers, and shysters of every color, dragged into tailor and gem shops, and

    stumbling/falling on terrible pavements.

They'd be captive in their hotel, and may as well be Iin Morocco being cleaned out, closer too.

Spain and Portugal are nice at that time.

My sister in-law offers chaperone service for elderly tourists. PM me for a quote.

  5. Lucky for me I've never been outside the EU.

Wonder how they found out she had been living in the USA?

The government were discussing allowing expats access to NHS if they had paid a minimum of 35 years NI contributions but that seems to have been shelved for now.

However, even expats have a right to free NHS treatment if they decide to return and LIVE in the UK. They don't need a UK address or GP registration you simply have to say " I used to live in USA/Spain/Thailand but I live here now so get on with the free treatment I'm entitled to as a UK citizen!" As a free person you are able to leave the UK when your treatment is complete and live where ever you like.

I currently live in the UK with my Thai wife and she has never worked or paid any NI contributions but she has full free access to the NHS so the invoice given to this lady is an insult to all hard working tax paying citizens of the UK.

  6. How about Hua Hin? Slightly sleazy and cheaper.

Where the hell is Hua Hin sleazy? I saw PG-13 there at best...

Last time I went out hunting there, there were a couple bars with washed-up looking porkers trying to reel in customers :-S

....and that's what a lot of ppl like about Hua Hin - not much sleaze

  7. I rarely take antibiotics. I think twice in the past 5 years. That and sanitizing your hands every five minutes is the sure road to getting sick.

Dont understand sanitizing your hands bit! Can you explain ?

Keeping yourself too clean will not allow your own immune system to become experienced at fighting infections. When I was a young child my mother kept me scrupulously clean and did not let me play in the garden or get dirty, she was always washing my hands. Eventually I contracted Gastroenteritis and was 24 hrs from death as I couldn't keep any medicine down. The doctor told my mother she must allow me to play and get dirty so my immune system can become strong. Hope this explains.

Over use and incorrect use of antibiotics is a worldwide problem and will only be solved with education. My Thai wife takes antibiotics when she has a headache! I've tried to explain how bad this is but its just falls on deaf ears.

  8. It is mainly due to the fact you can buy anti-biotics over the counter here. Resistance has been building for decades.

My wife has antibiotics sent over to the UK from Thailand and takes a couple if she doesn't feel well. I've sat her down and explained the dangers of doing this but she still continues take them ad hoc. Thai ppl know best - when our son had a cold she took him to the doctors and was furious he wouldn't give him antibiotics.

  9. Isn't the reason why English became the dominate global language because the US became the dominant global power ofter WWII? I think in some ways German is actually more precise.

Yes you are correct. The USA's global trading after WW2 meant English became the worlds business language. Prior to WW2 French was the language of diplomacy but this has mostly, but not entirely, faded out. The recent Chinese president's visit to the UK included a state banquet hosted by HM Queen Elizabeth and etiquette required the menu was printed in French - a throwback to the old diplomacy days.

I work for a multinational German owned company and all business is conducted in English even when I'm actually in Germany.

  10. It is very true that sugar in moderation is perfectly fine for most people. You can find the exact measurements where it become too much online. I don't bother with such things, just avoid it when I can, but yes a little IS needed for some dishes. I understand many people need some in coffee and tea. That is a matter of taste. I like bitter flavors.

Just because it is true that TOO MUCH sugar is associated with serious chronic health problems, and it is, it does not follow that means people need to eat NO SUGAR.

But this is complicated with processed foods like white rice which is basically quickly converted into sugar after eating it. So that's sugar too.

Fresh fruit is different ... it has sugars but the body processes it differently than more direct sugars, so it is much healthier.

As you have stated Jingthing its the white processed rice together with the added sugar that is fuelling the diabetes epidemic through out Asia. It hasn't been proven definitively yet but it pretty much accepted. Thais eat upto 4 portions of white rice a day and with sugar in stir fried dishes, noodles and sugar loaded drinks equals diabetes. My father inlaw died of diabetes complications plus my mother inlaw and sister inlaw both have diabetes - despite all this I cannot stop my wife eating white rice and sugary drinks.

  11. Under normal circumstances the answer to your question is no. The confusion lies in understanding what Dual Citizenship is and how it applies to a country you have your citizenship from. I think the best way to illustrate this is by example.

I am Canadian and one of my daughters was born in Poland. Canada accepts Dual Citizenship while at that time Poland did not. Since my daughter was born in Poland she was and is a Polish Citizen.

So even though Poland does not grant "Dual Citizenship" when I applied for citizenship to Canada for her (her second citizenship) she was granted citizenship and now also holds both a Polish and Canadian Passports.

Me on the other hand, if I wanted to do the same as my Daughter and hold 2 Citizenship's from Canada and Poland I could not. Since Poland does not accept Dual Citizenship and I am Canadian, I would first have to renounce my Canadian Citizenship before I could be granted a Polish one. Can you see the difference?

So if your son/daughter are Thai, and you are from the UK and want to give them Dual Citizenship with the UK, then no problem. If they have UK Citizenship and you want them to have Thai Citizenship then this as different and they would have to give up their UK Citizenship first.

No this isn't true. My son was born in the UK where his birth was registered (I'm a UK citizen and my wife is Thai) and then we went to the Thai Embassy in London and registered his birth and obtained a Thai passport. He did not have to renounce his UK citizenship. So he has dual citizenship and so does my wife who was born in Thailand.

  12. Grow some lemon grass in pots and place them around your place. Mozzies can't stand the stuff. It's more natural and your wife can use it as well for cooking. I must be a mozzy as I can not stand the taste of lemon grass. Good luck and keep away from the chemicals as much as you can.

You get Citronella oil from Lemon Grass plants - they have a limited affect at repelling Mozzies but are better than nothing.
