  1. Nothing smacks of true romance like an upturned cement mixing bin, a plastic rose in a cheap vase ,I mean 'bouquet'; and a rooftop bevvy on the roof of a dirty building in stinking god awful Pattaya.

Surely there's a movie in this 'love for the ages' story?

Not on the roof of any building, stinking or otherwise, it was on the helipad at Pratumnak hill.

That is a lovely romantic location - its where I got down on one knee and asked my first bar girl not to rob me.

  2. Carken, you will have to learn to take the rough with the smooth here. It would be a mistake to get into it with members who are poking a bit of fun.

On topic- The ages of the two in the latest bunk-up are important. I don't know the specifics of the law, but 16 can definitely be construed as 'under-aged' in this country. This is where your money and possessions would come in- to keep the little fornicator out of jail.

The age of sexual consent in Thailand is 15 except where prostitution is involved when it becomes 18. There is other legislation that makes it illegal for older ppl to have sex with under 18's but as both the parties concerned are 16 then no law has been broken.

  3. you'd be surprised how stupid some guys are when it comes to thi women and bar girls... her expectations are not impossible if she meets the right mug and plays her cards right

At 34 she's fast approaching her use-by date as a bar girl, what she wants aand what she gets may be totally different.

A 34 year old bar girl demanding a sin sot cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  4. I think it only fair to raise the point that 500 Baht is not a great deal of money, especially if you are from a country such as the UK (as I am) where that ammount of cash would not get to to the next junction.

I stopover in Bangkok very often and have never been overcharged for the taxi to my regular hotel. Instead I feel bad about that fact that the driver has waited in line for hours at the airport, only to get me who is going 5 minutes down the road for a fair of Baht 90. I always pay Baht 200 to resolve my concience.

I don't mind going off-meter, as long as you agree to the fee beforehand and the driver sticks to it.

The cost of living is not the same as the UK, here 500 Baht IS a great deal of money almost 2 full days work on minimum wages. Would you pay 2 days wages for a single taxi ride back home?

It ppl like you drink75 who destroy the Thai economy, 500 Baht is a lot of money! - get real and grow up!

  5. Maybe I misunderstood the remark about the speedo.

By law, a speedometer must never show a lower speed than the actual exact speed.

Tolerance only allowed to show higher speed.

Perfectly true - and they are mostly set to a higher speed than the actual so you can't sue the vehicle manufacturer in the case of speeding offence or accident. The speedo in my VW differs about 8% from my sat nav speed indicator.

  6. If you're just visiting as a tourist and not going because you need to get a visa at a Thai embassy, I don't know why anyone would go to Vientiane instead of Luang Prabang.

I agree but I thought you got the boat to Luang Prabang from Vientiane.

  7. You wrote : " PS. I have a new passport with only 1 Tourist Visa stamp "

And what about the ancient passport ?

    Did you done many " visa-run " before ?

Even you have a new passport the thai Immigration has all you did since you entered in Thailand from the first day .

A new passport cannot protect you .

    And about the answer I have seen above , I think you had wrong answers;

The new rules are maximum 90 days in 6 months...

The new passport can protect you if you go home and change your name by deed poll first - as one poster on here did.

  8. Or just opt for Linux. A lot less expensive than OSX or Windoze.

It's true. Sony reportedly saved so much money they have cancelled the release of one of their movies they were going to use as income, all because they used Linux on their servers.

    .

Yes Unix (Linux runs on top of Unix) is the least secure OS. Most web servers were based on Unix but have now been over taken by other OS because of lack of security.

Linux users don't suffer with virus' and malware so much because the hackers are after making money so they target the biggest user group, Windows users. As Apple users have increased in recent years they too are starting to be targeted.

As stated before each OS has its pros and cons. In the course of my work I use them all.

Ubuntu (Linux) is ideal for charity PCs as its licence free and with Open Office loaded, also licence free, gets the kids used to a Windows style environment.

MS Windows is the worldwide choice for business' and has kept me in a job for 20+ years 'nuf said

Apple's Mac OS (the first ever windows based GUI) was always a bespoke piece of kit favoured by Publishers, Printers and Advertising companies. This was due to the fact that Apple's desktop publishing software was by far the best available in the 1980's but I'm now seeing more main stream companies introducing cross platform OS, so I've had to brush up on my Mac skills.

  9. Very little market for gold in Thailand that is not Thai gold. They will not have any place to resell it and really don't wanna mess with it. Kinda like trying to sell baht back to banks in the US. You might find someone that will take baht but you will get a crap exchange rate as they don't wanna mess it that as well.

Not really possible to melt your US 10-18K gold and turn it into Thai gold. Thai gold is 23K (about 94% pure gold - 24K is considered pure gold) and I don't know how you would be able to get the other base metals that went into making yours the purity that it is separated away from the bullion.

IMO, 23K Thai gold is too soft for jewelry and I would never want any. Your pretty round ring will soon mostly be square if you wear it daily.

    Cheers!

Thai gold is 24K. You could have problems with a gem in it but the statement that you ring will be square it utter BS.

My wedding ring is Thai gold and I stopped wearing it as it was permanently misshapen as its so soft. Looks good but impractical.

  10. Suvarnabhumi shopping is a scam!

Been flying in/out here for the past 6 years, never shopped anything other than food.

First of all no Marlboro -> no shopping - does not matter that the shop assistant was trying to say "May pen Rai, buy something else"....

Seccond of all i found that their prices is very high - tax free my a... Saw a bottle of wine that retail in 7/11 for about 150 Baht and at Suvarnabhumi shopping they asked for 300

    Bu-Humbug

I can assure you that almost all liquor is substantially cheaper at the airport then in Bangkok.

This year I paid £11 for a carton (200 cigs) of B&H at swampy which I saw on sale in Dubai for £22. BTW this costs £80 in the UK and you're only allowed 200 per person over 18

  11. There is an equation for this that has been around a long time:

Take your age, divide by 2, then add 7...

    40 / 2 = 20 + 7 = 27 years old...

The gap gets wider the older the man gets...

This is a well know equation and I think it started in France where age gap relationships are more common than my home country UK

  12. Who the hell ARE these people?

Not one correct description of a soapy in the whole <deleted>' thread.

A soapy: you lie on a wet air mattress, she covers you with a soap solution and then uses her body to massage yours.

    Possibly non-sexual.

    Doubtful, but possible.

If this gets removed, I quit.

I wondered when someone was going to tell it straight. Now you'll have to explain the soapy **** LOL

  13. If it's new material it almost certainly is NOT asbestos, all the major Thai manufacturers no longer use it in their cement products.

Roofing material is amongst the safest asbestos products, provided you don't cut or break it it's not likely to cause issues. That said, if there is any doubt whatever, assume it's asbestos.

I remember when I was a nipper (long ago) there was an asbestos factory near us (Turner Brothers, Hindley Green), amazingly the place burned down.

They're still arguing about building on the old Turner Brothers site here in Rochdale, all these years since it shut down (2001). It also burnt down last year. I feel so sorry for all the poor souls who worked there and are now developing asbestosis.

Corrugated concrete asbestos is ok as long as you don't cut it or break it. As already suggested I would keep it painted and also spray sealer on the underside.
