  1. Head of Senate tourism panel slams poor city management of Pattaya Beach

The chairwoman of the Senate’s Tourism Committee slammed poor city management of Pattaya Beach and said worsening environmental and leisure conditions are impeding efforts to attract high-end tourists.

At a July 20 hearing at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Thanyarat Ajariyachai said bookings at five- and three-star hotels in Pattaya have declined due to Pattaya Beach’s ongoing erosion problem, aging facilities and scams by beach vendors. She said the beach lacked proper management and control and said that unless something was done, Pattaya would quickly revert to a destination only for sex tourists.

This was a few months ago and again it seems that nothing has changed

  2. There are heaps of scams still going on at the beach and don't get reported for certain reason but one thing that I have noticed is that the scammers are getting much more aggressive again and trying harder to detain their victims on the beach.

It seems to be a standard thing that the scammers also film the victims and most likely use this later to track the victims down like visiting their hotel and threatening the manager not to call police.

There was an incident yesterday opposite soi 11 where a well known group of scammers were restricting the tourists they looked like russians from leaving the beach don't know how long they were detained for but it would have been a terrible experience fror them.

    Many stories go unreported.

It is only a matter of time someone will be killed by these thugs.

It also looks as if the scammers have total control of all beach chairs between soi 11 and 13/4.

It also looks very much like the owners of these jet ski's are protected.

The TAT and Pattaya City Hall and all Law Enforcement Agencies should be embarressed for how they Promote Pattaya with no warnings to tourists when they are fully aware that a large criminal gang is operating on Pattaya beach and their target is jet ski customers.

Also Government that have citizens coming to Pattaya should have warnings on their official travel sites.

  3. Last month, in Naklua, a harmless glue sniffing Thai was shot dead by a moto taxi driver. He was making too much noise , so "Napoleon" murdered him.

Keep in mind the fact that the image of Pattaya being a safe tourist destination is false. It is created by the property developers in conjunction with TAT.

The traditional tourists know the score:

Do not get in confrontations, do not flash your wealth, smile, be smart with your cash, do not call LBs fags, be nice to the girls, and cut any phycho's loose ASAP! Etc. They also realize that Pattaya is mainly populated by uneducated Thais from Isaan who are not known for there reasoning skills, and hold in their anger until they explode. Of primary importance is the apology because it can defuse many situations. I may be thinking "F%$@ Y*& you A@#h*&e" but I smile, say sorry, and the moron gets a win, so no blood is spilled.

The newbs need to remember this: In Pattaya, with very few exceptions, if you are in a violent confrontation, no one will come to your aid!

It will continue to be the same because the cops won't do anything very few are arrested and the ones that are usually walk with out prosecution .

  4. The beach is very untidy and is a disgrace it is also over run with rats.

It is amazing how the City Hall can allow it to be in such a bad state when it is meant to be the main drawcard to Pattaya if they could just concentrate on cleaning it up and getting rid of all the whisky drinking jet ski scammers ,families living on the sidewalk , drug dealers pimps and Ladyboys it would be much better.

  5. Just reading one of the other forums in PAttaya some pics of scam that went on soi 6 yesterday.

also an interesting comment on the thread from some one else who was involved in an accident once , it does not say when so may have been some time ago

    this is the quote

"I don't know about this but even if they did need to have a licence to opperate who would enforce it as they seem to have some of the police on their side. I got one once and I did break it, I hit a friend on another one. We said we would go to atm for money and one of the operators pulled up his shirt to show he had a gun, he said one go and one stay. " :)

  6. I bougt something from tops not sure of the name but small yellow pellets put them near the trail and they carry them back to the nest and kill all the rest.

No ants in six months since using this.

  7. Pathetic thugs high on drugs and angry from alcohol and the sun are tooooo stuuuuuuupid to just rent all of your jetskis and make an honest living.

Their style is to scare one moron tourist to pay a huge amount while 90 percent of the jetskis sit idle wasting away in salt water and sewage.

They need to be exterminated like a rat!

That's exactly right a lot sk's are not being rented I am quite sure less than last year and if they tried to make an honest living off these it hey would have trouble.

The bad publicity has had an impact but not enough because they are getting very aggressive and 80 to 90 percent of tourist renting ski's on the beach are still scammed.

    80 to 90 percent?

You must be joking, i have spent 3-4 hours a day on the beach the last 2 weeks and no one renting jet ski has been scammed in front of me, so i don't think it is that common for a long way.

Allow me to correct my statement I am talking about between soi 9 and The last operator near walking st a single person renting a jet ski has less chance of being scammed but from what I have seen it is very unlikely that a group of two or more renting jet skis will get way with not being scammed I am not sure where you sit on the beach and what time you leave but most scams occur late afternoon when it is cooler this is the busiest time .

There are a groups of people who sit near soi 11 that travelled and assist once a scammer has target it is my opinion they are on the beach for that reason only.

  9. I further believe that the pictures that are taken are not ever actually looked at in very great detail. I believe the real nature of the pics is that they work as intimidation. The thugs make it a quite strange high profile show to shoot the pictures in the beginning and that makes the tourists to feel small and feel like the shooters of the pictures are in control. When the tourists return from sea the thugs have proof they can use and the tourists know that they have not. The pictures are probably in many cases shown on a small camera display only and it is 100% impossible that any flaws could be seen on such small display even in that unlikely situation that they would be captured on camera. Somebody would need at least a laptop to study the pictures properly and I have not seen many laptops to be carried on the beach for this purpose. I believe in many cases the thugs just wave the camera around saying that they have proof on their side so the tourists need to pull out some cash right now.

One thing that I have personally seen is the sd card been taken away on a motorbike ,and sometimes the scammers will give the victim more time on the water until the sd card returns . And I have also seen the photographer point to the new pics and select certain ones prior to the messenger getting away on the bike but fully agree with your post and intimidation

  10. It's probably been mentioned before but what if the customer takes pics of the jetski before they even get on it. That was there is surely no chance of any stunts being pulled?

But a lot of the time, it is the customers camera that is being used.

They take your photo with it, then hang on to it for safe keeping, but remove the card, photoshop it and return back to the camera.

That is not right the scammers use their own cameras I have seen tourist grabbed by the throat and pushed away for using their own cameras.

If the authorities were serious they could take all the scammers cameras and check for manipulated images.

  11. The Village Chippy is the best. I've tried all the others at some point. Yes, they have raised the prices and other than fish and chips you must be ready for an above average check. They now have Inidan food but I've not tried it yet. Assume frozen or some other way perhaps shrink wrapped then microwaved? For the large Cod with some chips and a drink you are going to spend 300baht but it's good.

This puts Goose's back into play.

If Goose's is as good as it was last year, I highly recommend it. The dory and chips were as good as back in a decent place in the West or Australia and not expensive. I usually have cod, but the dory was so good that I did not bother.

I had the cod from Goose's about two weeks ago and it was very nice.

  12. Early Low Season Anticipated

On Friday at Pattaya City Hall, Mayor Ittipon Khunpleum met with relevant authorities in the tourist industry about a potentially early low season. This fall-off in visitors may hit Pattaya because of the disastrous Flooding here in Thailand; in fact, many tourists have already started leaving Pattaya, and there has been a high percentage of cancellations in the industry. The downturn has started to spread to all types of business in the Pattaya area. relating to tourism industry which the representatives of all relevant authorities were Banglamung Sheriff Mr. Chaowalit Saeng-u-tai, the President of Hotel Association Eastern Chapter Mrs. Bundarick Gusonwit, the President of Business Operator & Tourism of Pattaya Mr. Surachai Wat-ta-na-sart-sa-torn and media relations etc.

  13. I witness the scam yesterday afternoon across from the Royal Garden Mall.

I also see quite a few of the beach scammers are getting drunk on whiskey.

    Nice family resort.

Not another one, OMG....... that's shocking.

    JH

When you see young men less than 20 years old threatened by these thugs and taken to ATMs and forced to withdraw money or be injured .

Or young Chinese girls crying their eyes out in fear in the presence of these thugs and so called tourist police and forced to pay money because these guys have shown photo's where witnesses have seen as sd cards removed while the tourist is out on the water.

When you see weapons like steel umbrella pegs being used daily to extort people and nothing is done by authorities maybe you will understand why people like myself and others are concerned and want to see ended.

If you think this topic is boring Jebhead please don't comment.

  14. Sorry hijack your thread abit.

My 3Gs home buttom is not working properly where can i find a honest reliable shop in CNX to get it fix ?

My last inquiry was at Airport plaza quoted me 500baht without looking at the phone says have to change the home button which might not be the case as it might be some contact issue.

Try this it is probably the same as iPhone 4

Its an industrial design failing which is exacerbated by age and also how heavy you might be in pressing the button. The design of the iPhone4 (and 4S) uses two mini screws in the lower antenna ring to lock the lower portion of the phone in place, with heavy use or just thru age, these two screws can work their way out slightly and hence induce flex in the baseplate under the home button switch. You can see the two screws either side of the connector slot inboard of the microphones.

Please be very wary of attempting the below without the appropriate screwdriver or star driver, Apple Genius Bar will examine screw heads for tampering and may reject phone with botched heads!

If very careful (and you'll require a tiny 000 screwdriver), lay the phone face down on a flat surface, you can release the screws slightly (for 4x that I've done this on, they were already loose), then place a flat spludger inside the connector slot placing a small amount of pressure on the inside of the slot (ie. the back of the button plate), then whilst maintaining the pressure, cinch up the two screwheads. This will re-torque the button baseplate in place and you should hopefully be fine for another couple of months.

The reason some people see good success with USB cables attached (especially some non-Apple slightly badly toleranced ones), is that most of the cables both fill the slot and happen to strain the cable downward and hence lever upward pressure against the back of the button plate ... hence good success whilst connected to the USB cable, it probably maintains the plate in the "up" position as well for a little while until thumb pressure on the button overcomes the screws grip again and the baseplate drops yet again.

I don't doubt that some of the memory hungry apps (or poorly written, leaky apps) happen to slow down the system, but with the above fix in mind my 18mth old iPhone 4 is back in perfect working health and so are those of three other friends (various ages from 18mths to 1mth old).

  15. The 4 people from yesterday that were assaulted just for defending themselves would have had there holiday ruined and these thugs always ask the persons hotel name before renting the jet ski and it is a well known fact they will come terrorizing at hotels like in the case where 5 were arrested.

We only see a small part of what really goes on and l hope these people are ok because there are many reports where hotel staff are to scared to call the police .
