  1. Why is there so much speculation that the driver was not using her brain and speeding, when the facts of the accident are not known or reported.

There could be several scenarios contributing to the accident other than stupidity:
Heart attack or seizure of the driver.

Oncoming truck which forced her to swerve and the truck didn't stop.

    Component failure

The reality is we do not have the facts here, and unfortunately accident investigation in Thailand is in a fairy primitive state, so we probably will never know the real cause of the crash.

    R.I.P to the victims.

  2. Ubonjoe,

thanks for the advice. Looks like better to get a single entry marriage visa for 90 days.

I always worked or had retirement  visa so going to Savannakhet is all a mystery to me.

    A few questions if I may;

How to get from Vientiane to Suvannakhet ?
    How long does it take?
where do I get the visa application form ?
Tried to search in the forums but could not find the answers.

    Many thanks for your help

    cheers

  3. I need to change from retirement to marriage extension, because I intend to work again.

If I exit, with no re entry permit, my retirement visa will be cancelled.

If I came back on visa exempt stamp, can I convert to a non-O using TM87 and then later apply for marriage extension based on income.

This will save me time waiting for the income letter from the embassy before I fly out and back again.

    Many thanks for any help.

  4. I am considering an offer of a full time job, with a work permit. Currently I have a retirement extension based on income letter from the British Embassy.

If I accept the job offer I must change to a marriage visa to be able to apply for a work permit.

Can I simply transfer to a new marriage extension (my current retirement extension expires Sept 2017), or do I need another letter from the embassy for my income and apply for a new extension.

    Any advice welcome,

    thanks.

  5. Reporting on line is a joke. I have only been successful once in six reporting attempts.

Today I got a message saying the site was not secure and when I changed to insecure site it took about a minute to refresh each box. Then when submitting, the screen stayed blank.

Yes I have reported before, yes it is within the reporting window and yes I am using Internet explorer.

So another 600km round trip next week !

  6. When I was working for a multinational company I lived in Bangkok for about 15 years in various houses and condos.

Since retiring, I have been living in Isaan for the last five years and would not consider living anywhere else.

As others have said, the air is clean, traffic congestion in our village and town is unknown and there is quiet all around, the next nearest house is 500m away.

I have built a far better house for the money than I could find in Bangkok or any there major city, and have a 2 rai garden to keep us occupied.

We bulk shop once month from the nearest city (55kms) to fill the freezers and the local market is 1km away by motorbike.

If we feel the need to visit friends in Bangkok, it is just 45 minutes flight, though we try to avoid too many trips.

I could never be bored, too much to do, making cheese, smoking meat and fish, relaxing with a beer on the patio in the afternoon.  But we have our creature comforts, fibre optic broadband (faster than I ever had in the middle of Bangkok) internet TV from Europe etc.

If you plan right, it can be a wonderful life "in the sticks".

Saying "it is just not possible to live in Thailand anymore on tourist visas"  is nonsense.

Maybe it is too simplistic, but living in Thailand and tourist visa are non comparable.

A tourist visa implies that one is here on vacation.

Living in Thailand implies staying in Thailand long term.

A vacation is short term period.

If you are wealthy then the Elite visa is designed for those who can afford it without working to stay in Thailand.

The real issue is that many people who have back to back tourist visas are usually those working under the radar in Thailand, often using the internet as a business, and this is not legal.

  8. I moved to a small village in the south of Buri Ram province two and a half years ago, and found it much more friendly than where I previously lived in Roi-Et..

Don't see any evidence of fly tipping in our area and the villagers are keen to keep things neat and tidy with no rubbish tips.

  9. I have been here for more than twenty years now, and certainly do not feel under any more pressure than when I landed here,

It is still easy to get a long term visa if you are legit; the whingers are mainly those trying to buck the system.

Only been back to UK 4 times in 20 years for a total of 17 days, and nothing would drag me back to live in the over regulated politically correct, nanny state that the UK has become.

Thank goodness for places like Thailand.
