An online database by Gunpolicy.org, run by the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health, estimates a smaller gun death rate for Thailand.

It says there are around 3.48 deaths per 100,000 people, which is just under that of the States, AFP reported earlier this year.

Working on the figures from USA Thailand has about 12 gunshot deaths per day.
Taking out estimated for police taking down drug dealers and the insurgents down south I worked on a figure much closer to the one above, which is about the same as the USA.
Obviously the originator of the so called statistics is just trying to deflect flak from his native USA to justify the outdated gun laws in that so called civilised society.
  2. I have lived and worked in PP on many occasions.

There is no departure tax to pay on leaving, it is included in the ticket now.

Plenty of good restaurants near the river, Foreign Correspondents Club has good views from first floor over the river with western style foods.

Good Cambodian cuisine at Titanic Restaurant also on the side of the river.

The casino in PP has a great all you can eat and drink buffet everynight, and no obligation to use the casino.

Tuk Tuk drivers in PP will accept US$, make sure you have small bills; most journeys within PP are 4 or 5$ plus a dollar tip.

Score Bar is great place for watching live sports, cold beer and great varied menu.

Plenty of hostess bars in street 104 and 130, and cheaper than BKK.

    You should enjoy PP.

  3. I have had 3BB since July and we live out in the sticks in Isaan, 15kms from nearest town.

Never a problem with youtube; often the wife is watching Youtube on her iPad and I watch internet TV on mine and never have buffering.

Just done a speed test and got 29.7 Mbps download and 4.19Mbps upload, good service I would say.

  4. Not surprised at all about this. Over the last twenty years, I estimate that half the post sent to me from Europe has been lost and I expect all of it when it is in Thailand, as western countries have procedures to combat pilferage.

My bank in Singapore will refuse to send credit cards to Thailand using mail service as they know it has a good chance of being 'diverted'.

  5. You seem to be fixated on "the law", well the main problem with that is you whilst you may well find one, you then need someone to "enforce it", and therein lies your problem. Thailand has many laws, but no one really interested unless there is a financial incentive, to actually enforce them. This aint the west!

Then you have another problem, you have gone to the Or ba tor?, so now the guy concerned "looses face" in his community, and not just him but his entire extended family may get really pissed at you, and next we hear, there's been an awful accident, or even a suicide, or maybe a damn Cobra got into your bedroom.

Thais have "mai bpen rai" live and let live attitude, you would do well to remember it. Not become a victim of trying to change it.

You'd better have deep pockets, because you are headed on a course of self destruction if not very careful. If you have a Thai wife, LET HER handle it.

Not everyone has a Thai wife ( or even wants one ) yet I have gotten fake doctors charged, noxious fires put out, an impromptu sawmill shut down, ( and neighbors criminally charged for processing protected trees.) Dogs shut up, rooster fights stopped and have lived through all.

    Thanks for the advice though.

You sound just the sort of Farang we need here in Thailand, NOT.

If you want to p!ss people off interfering with their way of life go back to your own country.

  6. I think they will only learn when it starts hitting the owners in their pockets big time & the police actually enforce the road rules. Neither is likely to happen as there are too many vested & powerful interests involved.

I fully agree, stop pussyfooting with a fewe thousand baht fines which have no effect, if the operators were fime 1,000,000 THB for every injured or killed, and strict hours regulations were enforced by tachographs, then we might see this carnage stop.

I fear not in the next 100 years in Thailand.

  7. I hope this has open the eyes of the farmers to who is their friend. Suthep is two face, he has his people withdraw the money from the bank in the south while he often a mere 25 million baht for legal fees for farmers. I wonder how much money was pockets from his march on Silom the other day.

Can't accuse you of being two faced or you wouldnt be wearing the one you have!

Suthep isn't two-faced. He has only one face, and that face if the face of the Bangkok-centered, Thai elite who are so enraged that they've lost control of their country to simple, country-folk from the north through the vote they are now willing to bring down the popularly-elected government my any means possible. I assume Suthep will just continue to thwart all efforts of the caretaker government to conduct state business and escalate the violence in the protests which is aimed to provoke the government into taking police action to restore law and order until the violence escalates sufficiently to justify another military coup.

These people know they can't regain control via the ballot box so will resort to any means possible.

Unfortunately I see a long term of unrest for Thailand... sad.png

If the last government was elected by free and fare elections, then Suthep and the Bangkok Elite would accept the result, but we all know it was not a free and fare elwction, and the PTP bribed their way to power.

The best thing now would be for the army to take control again and put in place a constitution with real teeth to deal with election fraud, and ban anyone who has participated in election fraud in the past from being banned form any political activity for life.

  8. The military need to protect the voting booths, not boneheaded terrorists like you, Suthep.

Suthep cannot be compared to a terrorist.

All he is trying to do is restore real democracy to Thailand and permanently evict the Shin clan who have created their own dictatorship over the past few years, by buying votes in Isaan and the like. I watched my ex-wife being paid off after voting for PT at the last election.

Having lived here for more than eighteen years I want to see a return to free and fare elections that we had in the 90's, before Taksin bought his way to power

  9. Bit of a long shot, but does any one know where I can purchase caul in Bangkok, guess it needs to be a friendly local butcher,

    cheers

  10. I see that most people don't want Thaksin govt.

I see that most people want Suthep govt.

If that is the case, why doesn't Suthep support elections on 02-Feb, when his party would win the ballot?

I've assumed (dangerous in any situation, and doubly perilous in politics) that Suthep is convinced his party would lose the election, and worse yet, that Yinglukck's party would win and she would continue to be Prime Minister.

Because there are no free and fare elections, the current party in power bought their way to victory with handouts to the farmers

  11. If you can afford the extra flight I would go to Bali, been there many times.

Great beaches and great seafood at Jimbaran beach.

Always lots of beautiful girls available when I have stayed there.

IMHO worth going and seeing something new
