  1. I have just checked with my preferred golf shop in Pattaya and they say it's two months delivery time for a set of US spec TaylorMade Burner 2.0 irons!

Anyone want to sell a used set with the following spec:

    S-A-P-9-8-7-6-5, steel shaft, regular flex.

Have you tried www.golf.com? I recently bought two custom fitted wedges from them and they arrived here within five days from the manufacturer in the US. With the postage and import duty included, I still saved myself about 30% on what they would have cost here.

  2. Went on Saturday - Guinness & Kilkenny's 290 baht a pint blink.gif The music was ok for about ten minutes until a Thai band came on. As someone already posted, it's not very busy and most of the beers are available in CM already. Save your money and go and enjoy a few beers at Kamrai shop a few hundred yards away on Nimmanhaemin Road.

  3. I live in the Punna and Infinity's not a problem at all. It used to be Chalerm Krung, but that thankfully (for the noise problem) has shut down. The only thing that gets really noisy, as someone else posted, are the food festivals and concerts in Prasertland/Kad Chiang Doi.

  4. Not sure if it's too late LJW, but...

There's a place in Kad Suan Keaw that does custom decals. I had one done myself. I forget the name of the shop, but it's next to the elevators that are at the 'back' of the mall and, if I remember rightly it's on the floor below SportsWorld.

Also, there's a place called Chet Sticker that's at the back entrance of Big C on the Hang Dong road. Leave Big C at the doors next to the MK restaurant that take you into the car park and it's the first shop on the left.

  5. Or go to mapjack ....

At least with Google Maps it will be more up to date than Mapjack.

I wonder how old Mapjack is?? :)

Judging by the photo of the condo where I live, I'd say at least three years.

  6. Having been in CM for just over a decade, it's always nice to find 'new' places to spend an afternoon. Last weekend I was taken to such a place, namely Taweechol Botanical Gardens. I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who have been there before, but I'd thought I'd pass it on for those who haven't. It's on the Doi Saket road, quite a few clicks down on the left hand side after you've turned off the super highway. My apologies for the vague directions, so if someone who knows exactly where it is could oblige with better ones I'd be grateful.

Anyway, on with the details. Once you get to the gardens, there's a small entrance fee (50 baht per adult - no discrimination) and you have the additional option of hiring a bicycle or golf cart to get around. The gardens themselves aren't very big (and certainly not as 'botanical' as the ones on the Mae Rim loop), but there's enough to enjoy a couple of hours wandering/cycling around. If you like boating, you can also hire a pedalo to burn off some extra calories and there's also a maze to keep you entertained. If you've got kids then there's a playground and a petting zoo (no, nothing like Spicy) with some inquisitive ostriches.

Like I said, it's always a nice surprise to find a 'new' place, so I thought I'd share this one with you. rolleyes.gif

  7. I'm going to buy an iPhone 4 in Chiang Mai and wanted to hear people's thoughts/experiences on which network would be the best; True/DTAC/AIS

By the best, I mean reliability/coverage of 3G service and package price per month (free call minutes/SMS/Internet, etc.)

    Thanks in advance :-)

  8. I'm looking to buy some golf shoes, but none of the shops I've been to in CM have my size (UK 11/US 12).

I've tried the shops in Central Airport Plaza, Central Kad Suan Kaew, Star Dome and the ones opposite Lanna Golf Club. Are there any other good ones in Chiang Mai?

    Cheers.

  9. Hi to all you golfers in Phuket.

I'm coming down to Phuket at Christmas and would like to know where the best golf shops are. I need to buy some new golf shoes and I can't get ones I like in my size (I'm a UK 11, US 12) here in Chiang Mai. Could anyone tell me where to go in Phuket to get some? Ideally I'd like to get some Adidas or Footjoy,

    Thanks in advance.

  10. What harm did Thai nationalism the last 200 years to the world compared to the nationalism of : Germany, England, France, America, Japan, China, Israel, Russia, Turkey, Belgium, Dutch, Spain, Portuguese, Arabia etc. ?

    Well said.

How has it benefited us? What have they contributed to the world of technology/medicine/education, etc???

sk1max, answering a question with a question is so lame :sleepy: , poor style indeed :boring: .

But here you go: " How has it ( Thai nationalism ) benefited us ( Farang? ) " ? This question is stupid past all belief .

What benefits do you get from the nationalism of any nation you are not a part of  ?

Chonburiram - What was the intention of your original question? To answer the OP? Lame indeed.

If you read sk1max's question carefully, you will see he asked about 'they' as in the Thais in general. It's a valid question. Many technological advances were developed during periods of nationalism within individual countries that the entire world benefits from today.

  11. I think in the CM curry competition there is no clear favorite so new contenders are more than welcome.

The New Delhi just along from the UN Irish Pub is my first choice. Beats all the others in CM.

  12. Eastbound from the airport, no petrol after the superhighway, on 1317 past San Kamphaeng. Is there a Saint Camping? :)

Coming from Mae On toward CM on 1317, just past the road to Lanna Airport there is a station on the left. I've had to fill up there with a bone dry tank coming out of Mae Kampong mountains.

T Dog, the only petrol station I can find on 1317 east of San Camping is maybe 15 km from my house. I could take spur 1317 into Sank. if I was empty.

I suspect that petrol out in the boondocks is thin on the ground. MHSon road has a hand-cranked pump, like in West Texas, 1930.

Actually, since you raised that issue PB, I would bet that there are in fact places where you can buy petrol inside the moat. Many of the village type moobaans have those little stands with hand-cranked pumps which work just fine for a motorcycle. So technically not a petrol station, they do sell sell petrol.

You may well be right. In addition to those, I bet you could run a motorbike using a bottle or two of the stuff they sell at the lao kao stands!

  13. I concur again with john b good. Furthermore, if you can't find the gas stations "inside the moat", then you really do need new glasses. Offhand I can think of 4 of them and I'm sure there are more than that.

I must need glasses - I can't think of any! Where are they elektrified?

You're right Scrubber - I think elektrified is getting carried away. There aren't any gas stations inside the moat since the local council 'shut them all down' a few years ago for safety reasons.

JBG - all those you listed are outside the moat :D

Well I guess we are being very technical of the definition of inside the moat. The ones I had in mind were the ones across the street from the water or perhaps "on the moat", like the ones next to DK Book Store, next to Wat Lok Moli, and the one next to Suan Prung Hospital, etc. So technically they are not inside the moat, but on the moat. Forgive me. :D

    All is forgiven :)

  15. Protein power is very expensive here. you better get it from UK.

    Totally agree.

This is one thing I always bring back to Thailand with me if I go on a trip to the UK. If you take supplements (protein, creatine, etc.), then I recommend bringing as much as you can over here with you. Supplements are way more expensive here and the choice isn't good at all.

  16. I'd agree with this. To give an example, at the very lowest end, a white cotton T-shirt. ASDA in the UK sells three 100% cotton white T-shirts that are actually good quality for one pound 99, about 106 Baht. In Tesco Lotus in the Thailand the cheapest white T-shirt is polyester rubbish and is 69 Baht for one.

I concur. In fact, most (decent) brands of clothing you find in the malls here are cheaper back in England. An <deleted> t-shirt I bought in Bangkok for 2,500 Baht costs about 30 quid in England. Strangely, the one I bought in BK was made in Turkey and the one in England was made in Cambodia!?
