Move away from Sukhumvit.
Police in that area are known to be like vultures. Every now and then they get their wrists slapped and lay low for a while but they are soon back at it waiting to put the squeeze on any prey that cross their turf.

The Police Order (see attached) is crystal clear that it needs only to be TWO months, so an officer incorrectly referring to 3 months can be easily 'overruled' by showing that PoliceOrder.
Thanks for that reassurance Peter. These days , even if you think you have got it all covered it pays to check and check again.
Thanks again to you and Joe for all the good advice. Much appreciated by all of us.
As an aside , I have just finished reading the thread by the Dutch guy who went back to Holland for a new visa then returned here.
As much as I need to go to the UK it is far better and cheaper for me not to leave than attempt what he just went through.

It will also provide you the 2 months time to season the funds required to apply for the 1-year extension of stay based on your original Non Imm O Visa.
Yes....I was going to use the 40,000 baht a month transfer method but this now seems a bit uncertain given that some immigration offices question whether the transfer is from pension or savings.
Therefore I am now leaning towards having the full 400,000 baht in the bank with 2 month seasoning before applying for 1 year extension. However , I have heard that some offices require three months seasoning which again causes some uncertainty. If that were true I would have to hope the initial 60 day extension started on September 27th to allow for an extra month of seasoning of the 400,000.
Amazing Thailand

On Thursday 19 March, as part of all visa applications, the Thai Consulate in Savanakhet commenced asking for a medical certificate stating that the visa applicant was free of Covid-19. They also said they would not accept a certificate issued by any doctor in Savanakhet. The borders commenced closing on Sunday 22 March.
What a bummer. All that way for nothing.

Yes, that's true. The longer you take to pay it off the higher the rate climbs. But if you are over 70 with any pre existing conditions then assuming you can get cover it won't be cheap.
For those that simply can't afford high premiums year in year out the credit card is a lot better than nothing since at least you have the means to pay for many things rather than just dying because no insurance.
My friends mother in the UK paid for the best insurance she could get for over 20 years. When finally she needed to make a claim no problem....she was covered. But afterwards they refused to cover her as being too risky ( she was 76 ) Pretty shabby treatment in my opinion.

I got the jail option too but after reading a Finnish posters description of Finnish jails I think I would fly to Helsinki , commit a crime and do my time there instead. Sounds very nice according to him.

Similar. Got the money but its in the UK.
I actually want to leave !! I was supposed to be in the UK in May to sort out some financial matters.
I'd still like to leave but getting back is such a major hassle that I have stayed on.

I've committed to the money in the bank method but due to my procrastinating nature I miss out by about ten days for the seasoning which is why I'm trying for the special dispensation.
Well, if you had the 400,000 put in the bank by 1st September, that would give you the 2 months seasoning needed to apply for the yearly extension. ( assuming you were on your 60 day extension first )

I am currently under a visa-exempt amnesty having failed to secure a Non-O multi in Savanakhet just before the borders closed last March.
How could you fail ? No financials needed and with Thai wife ?

I still have it, so guaranteed at least to Nov 25 or whatever.
Dito. I am preparing to do the 1 year extension with cash transfers as well but this is more difficult and depends on how friendly your local immigration office is. Need to go to mine for a ' chat ' before committing myself to either course. The only other option is to get 400,000 in the bank for 2 months seasoning.

I'd like to see a survey of how many people still have a joker up their sleeves with the 60 day extension
to visit wife. How many have already used it vs those who still have the option.

On the one hand the Thai education system is desperately in need of foreigners to improve standards in English.
Before Thailand employed big numbers of foreigners to teach English , Thailands ranking was one of the worst in Asia for the standard of English spoken.
It still is. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
The very idea that if you have a native speaker at the front of the classroom the students will be more interested in the subject and their English will improve has not been born out by results.

How much notice was given to prior amnesties ?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

However , some offices will not give the extension if the visa has expired. ( one or two reports of this ). They want you to have a valid visa to extend. My multi O from Savannakhet expires on September 15th so I will ask for the 60 days before this just in case my local office require me to have a valid visa.
As for the 60 days there are not a lot of reports back yet as to when the 60 days will start, date of application or the 27th September.
For myself I will have to put the 400,000 baht in the bank soon ( grrrrrrrr ) to allow time for the two month seasoning.
Plan a visit to Petchabun immigration tomorrow to see what their requirements are.
