I lived for a long time in a place called Bury just north of Manchester, famous for Black Pudding

I lived a year there. Not only famous for its excellent black pudding but best food market I have ever been to. Nice town chuck.

No, that's not natural.  Too soggy and fatty.

    Plain toast, if required.

    Only if not done properly.

Secret is to toast the bread first so it is already a little brown and crispy. Then just a quick fry 5-6 seconds each side in hot rice brown oil ( high flash point ) then out of pan and onto kitchen paper.

With this method the bread does not soak up all the oil but is just lightly fried on the outside.

Bad for the heart but as a treat ....blooming lovely.  Wife loves it with her full English lunch.

In fact , every Thai girl I have known for a long time really come to like an English breakfast

they may as well as make hay while the sun shines because imo this glaring 'leaky bucket' immigration go around will get eventually highlighted in some manner causing a huge face loss and the shutting down of this practice..

As the number of foreigners in country continues to diminish as more fall victim to moving goal posts , then agents will find their prey becoming extinct and they in turn will feel the pinch.

So long as Thailand continues to be ruled by a xenophobic military sponsored government there will be no let up. Those who are currently not having any visa issues will be next up once the current house cleaning is over.

  5. Another thing wrong with the house in the OP is too much glass on the upper storey. That is a no no if you want it cool inside. Keep windows to a minimum and make sure the walls are insulated.

Since heat rises it will get hot upstairs. To offset this you could have a couple of extractor fans at the apex either end to suck out the hot air.

As someone else mentioned, if you can have fast growing shade trees around the house to keep it in shadow it would help a lot.

You are lucky that you did not yet use up your 60-day extension of stay,

Even luckier that mum had the cash on hand. For me to access my own bond funds would have taken time and lost me interest. I feel for those who are now looking at a dead end. Can only hope that as one door closes another will open for them.

For sure , with every week that passes there are fewer foreigners in the country.

They doing extensions based on income now?.

I was turned down flat in March, 400K in bank is the only thing they would accept.

Well, this was yesterday. They laughed at the 2 months suggestion and told me only 12 monthly deposits acceptable. I now have the 400,000 in my UK bank and will transfer it into my Bangkok Bank account tomorrow for 2 months seasoning.

FYI > I am actually a Newbie on the Forum and am only living since 2,5 years in Thailand more specifically in SiSaKet province.  Presently on a Non Imm O-A Visa of which the permission to stay only expires end of January 2021.

Well...... a lot of good input from you which is much appreciated and with your current visa you won't have to bothering immigration for a long time yet.

I have always had my own account and wife has hers. Keeps things simple.

Did you consider using an Agent?

Fee for a 1-year extension of stay based on marriage (with a 'fix' for the 400K) is 25K.

PM me if you need the agent co-ordinates (who uses his Khon Kaen Divisional HQ contact to get your application approved).

Not really. Did not see any hanging around outside and I wasn't nudged in that direction by the two guys inside , who as I said , were very pleasant and polite if not that up to date.

As it happens , the 400,000 will be in my UK bank today and as soon as I see it there I will use TransferWise to get it moved into my Bangkok Bank. Thanks to mum , not a big hassle.

As a matter of interest , if you don't mind my asking , where is your own immigration office and how are they handling current extensions ? The more info we get the bigger the picture. As Khunyod posted (P33)

Chiang Mai are also not allowing the 2 month first year option. Just how widespread is this ? Are there any reports of anyone successfully doing this recently and where ? Be useful to know.

Have to say I will really miss doing 90 day border hops. The wife and I enjoyed our little working trips and always took 3-4 days on them, no mad rushing. Pleasant breaks to look forward to and hassle free.

Absolutely. Chiang Mai immigration refuses 2 months only the first year. If I had the document to show them, it *might* help (who knows?).

The same answer I was given and yet other offices agree to the 2 months first year rule.

I was particularly aggrieved by this rejection since I had already made the 2 transfers of 40,000 into my Bangkok Bank account and thought I would be good to go. Now I have to get the full 400,000 and if it were not for the bank of mum I would have to default on bonds I have in the UK which not only would loose my premium but take time.

I am still pondering whether to leave in June or go for the 1 year extension. A friend back in the UK who works for the NHS is saying they are gearing up for a lot more covid cases this winter so returning then looks grim.

Did they indeed agree that you could do the 60-day extension of stay first, to provide you with the necessary time to do the 2 month seasoning of the only available method < 400K on a personal thai bank-account > and then apply for the 1-year extension of stay at the end of the 60 days that 60-day extension of stay would provide you?

Yes....they did. But only after a huddle.

14 hours ago, Peter Denis said:

This is ESSENTIAL, because you wrote higher under < 4 > that they said it was not possible to apply for the 1-year extension of stay from that intermediate 60-day extension.

But I presume they agreed that their initial response was incorrect.

What I think they meant is that if your Non O from Savannah has expired you could not extend 60 days for the reason of visiting your wife.

If it has not expired and you extend before it does expire , there is no period where you don't have some kind of permission to stay. The visa and the extension of it are sequential.

As I said , although they were friendly and helpful , I cant's say the appeared 100 % sure of their own answers. When I left I felt that a bit of goal post shifting might not surprise me sometime soon.

What I learnt was that from what they told me today , having 2 months of 40,000 transfers was not acceptable. The younger of the guys deferred to his senior but I did not ask if that senior was the head honcho or whether he would have the final say. My wife was listening to all this and felt that the older guy was likely the one actually dealing with applications.

One other thing. This older guy told me that if you phone the immigration helpline number you can be put through to the Petchabun office to enquire. This seemed odd to me since others have said on the forum that when you call the help line you can speak to someone with a good command of English. Neither of these guys gave that impression. My Thai is good and we went over the points several times because I felt some of their answers were contrary to reports on TV. Having said that, there was another poster on the forum in another thread that was also told no 60 day extensions on an expired Non O multi.

In the end, I now have to apply to the Bank of Mum for a bridging loan since my own money is in a high return bond which I don't want to cash in on default. Money and time lost.

I am still pondering whether to do the 60 days extension then fly home to the UK in November some 6 months late or stay longer. As we know, once you leave....no telling how long or how difficult it would be to return. I had only planned a 4 month trip to the UK ....... not 6 months to a year !!
