Short answer....no. They have laws for everything but apart from murder people ignore them it seems. When the police stop you for some silly reason its usually the colour of your money that interests them. However, just occasionaly they can't be bought and you have to go to the cop shop to pay the fine. If the bike the O.P is riding is in a Thais name they are usually the ones where the buck stops.

The absolute thing to avoid is having an accident where someone is hurt or killed. In this event you can be seriously up shit creek whether you have a licence or not or whether you are properly insured or not.

About time they finished it as its been ' almost ' finished for a long time. The line beyond Wong Wien Yai has also been ' nearly ' complete quiet a while. Maybe they'll stump up the cash to finish what has been started.

As for getting excited about crossing the river I can't really see what all the fuss is about ? There have been plenty of buses crossing to the ' Dark Side ' since the year dot. Or there are things called taxis you can use. Whats the obsession with the BTS, which is not exactly cheap, especially if you are traveling with a friend ?

If you buy a guitar thats difficult to play then you'll be beat before you've started. Look for one with low action ( strings not too high above fretboard ) , a nice full sound, and machine pegs that operate smoothly so that it won't slip out of tune too easily. I've seen reasonable ones for around 2500 baht.
