Some real pieces of CRAP on here!!! That includes the ones coming out with shit like 'What goes round comes round' and 'Well maybe the next village girl will think twice..'!!! You know who you are.. just understand that no-one else even wants to!!! oh, yeah.. and have a REALLY SHIT day!!!!!!!
This is the sort of comment expected by posters 3 and 4.
Why is it that whenever a thread involving westerners behaving badly is posted , there is such a predictable range of responses from ' son nam na ' right up to ' another quality tourist ruining our reputation '.
Pages and pages of similar responses. But if it is Thai on Thai ........well.......move along.......nothing to see here.

Witnesses have said they heard an explosion.
Couldn't find any candles so accidentally used small sticks of dynamite. Easier enough mistake.
Lets not assume it is terrorism when there is a perfectly plausible alternative explanation.

Thats a long bus ride , 10 hours or more. They all have televisions but some of the better companies give passengers headphones so you don't have to put up with the noise. Get one with only three seats to a row for extra comfort or you will feel like death when you get there.

Thanks for that Upnotover. Must be just a coincidence for me then. Will stick my next Visa on it. Means I have enough pages left for a year so can put off applying for a new one.
Cheers.

A good place is the third floor of Panthip Plaza 2 on Ngam Wong Wan road just a couple of hundred yards down from the Mall.
The third floor is entirely given over to traders of amulets. Must be about 80 or more shops and traders there plus lots of stalls selling the magazines. Always busy.

Probably a daft question but is page 6 of your passport ( first blank page ) useable for visas ? Only asking because my passport is getting a bit full and would like to use that blank 6th page for a visa or something. Looking at a couple of old passports I noticed that the first page has been left blank in them also.? Maybe just coincidence or is there a reason no immigration authority wants to put a stamp on it ?

Thanks to everyone for the useful answers. Pretty well confirm my own thoughts but nice to have second opinions . Will get the new passport to be on the safe side and renew my visa before leaving. Two less things to worry about despite the obvious inconvenience. Still , better now than later.
Once again....thanks all.

1) Her passport needs to be valid for the duration of the visit.
2) You don't need to renew your visa to prove anything. Your letter and evidence of life in Thailand does that already. You can explain your visa situation in the letter if you want to.
3) No problem, as long as you can demonstrate that you have the money (statements, etc.)
Thanks for the quick reply. Pretty much what I thought but some people say 6 months validity is needed even to leave Thailand which sounded wrong to me.

Firstly I am married to a Thai woman ( for 3 years but been together 10 ) and live with her at our home. She has a tabien ban and I have a yellow one for the same address. I currently stay here on a multiple entry Non O based on marriage and do 90 day visa runs. ( not having 450,000 baht in a Thai bank although have that amount in the UK.)
I was planning to return to the UK for a month to visit my mother this coming September and to clear out my belongings as she is moving home.
Now my Thai wife wants to tag along . She came to England with me before for a months holiday about 6 years ago....no problems , got visa on first asking.
However, it seems that things have tightened up a bit since then so wanted to check a few things before applying.
1) Firstly , we plan to travel in September but by that time her passport will only have 4 months validity remaining. Is this enough or should we play safe and get her a new one.
2) I am currently using the last 3 months of my non immigrant visa ( actually expired but was valid when entered ). Should I renew this visa first before applying for wifes visa to the UK since it seems I will need to in order to prove we will return to Thailand and continue living here.
3) I do not work in Thailand and do not have an official income , living on my savings. Will this be a problem when applying for her visa
I have scanned all the forums here and believe I know the answers but sometimes there is contradictory information and I just wanted to clarify as many things as possible before making out application.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

No problem with seeing this, but will they do the same with the PDRC anti-gov protesters?
Probably, but with one group the guns will be pointing in and with the other they will be pointing out.

You can apply for a new visa without a problem since you it will be close to the date it expires.
O.k ....thanks for that. Thought it would be o.k. but wasn't sure. Kemarat is pretty close to Mukdahan so will be very convenient to do it then rather than have to return in 3 months time with my 80 year old mother in tow.
-
Have a question myself now.
I was issued a multiple entry non imm 'o' ( based on marriage ) at Savannakhet on the 17th July 2013. Its validity expires on 16th July this year.
However, my latest 90 day stay will expire on the 1st July this year. As it happens, I will be in Kemarat for a wedding on the 29th of June. I know I can just cross the border at the Mukdahn bridge and get another 90 days ( bringing my stay up to 15 months )
but as it is so far from Bangkok I was wondering if I could forego using this visa for another 3 months and instead, apply for another multiple entry O based on marriage instead. Would save a long journey in October when I am expecting my mother over from the UK for a visit.
Any sound advice appreciated ...................thanks.

I read in the BP that the NACC said that the reason the extra witnesses for Yingluk were not allowed was because they ( the NACC ) had all the evidence they needed.
So much for being innocent until proven guilty.
Perhaps a better explanation is that they now have all the evidence that can possibly be presented to them, both for and against Yingluck and the PTP, and they now feel that it's now time to put an end to all of these delaying tactics and consider all of the evidence that they have.
Its all very well to talk about delaying tactics in the case against Yingluk , but the fact is that similar cases against the previous administration appear to have been swept under the carpet altogether since absolutely no progress or sense of urgency seems to have been attached to those cases.
One of the real reforms Thailand does need is for the law to be applied equally to everyone. Yinglucks case has leapfrogged
others , which many people deem to be an example of outside interference in the work of the NACC.
Neither Abhisit nor Suthep gave any specific orders for soldiers to go out there and kill people,
Actually, I was not referring to the 2010 protest deaths but rather the outstanding graft cases against the Democrat party.
However since you have bought it up I will point out your choice of words :
' Neither Abhisit nor Suthep gave any specific orders for soldiers to go out there and kill people '
This is basically the defense that Yingluk is using, that although her administration were responsible for the rice pledging scheme it was not Yingluk or any senior people who implemented it.
At no time was Yingluk seen at rice warehouses piling bags of rice into her Merc at the back door any more than Abhisit or Suthep were doing the same or sneaking out at night dressed in black bumping of red shirt protesters.
If we are to accept that the buck stops at the top, and personally , I think it should, it is only fair to apply the same rule to everyone rather than being selective about it. Abhisit has called upon Yingluk to accept responsibility for all sorts of things and yet he himself has not admitted personal responsibility either for the graft under the Democrat administration or the 2010 deaths.
Cleaning up Thai politics does not only mean ridding the country of Thaksin and his proxies ( which is the only definite reform Suthep has so far proposed ) . It means that everybody should be under the law and treated in the same way . Clearly, in Thailand, this is never going to happen.

On the subject of reforms ....the burning issue of the day ........what is the point when it will just be ignored like all the other legislation that they already have that is designed to stop corruption. Most Thais have only a vague notion of what corruption is anyway. They are quick to point out a politicians greed whilst finding it normal that civil servants defraud the government ( all governments ) all the time, with under the counter payments that cheat the system. They would much prefer to give a policeman a hundred baht for a traffic violation than have the inconvenience of paying the fine at the police station. And if they are rich, and their children drive fast cars and end up killing people....well whats the point of having a lot of money if you can't use it to save your children from going to prison.
The protests have continued for six months using reform as the battle cry and yet nobody has a clue what exactly it means, except Suthep, who has repeatedly stated that the reform is necessary to rid the country of the Thaksin clan. For him, this is the only reform necessary.

I accidentally watched a few minutes of Blue Sky yesterday. The speakers were talking about ' reform ' and how long it would take before elections could be held. One of the speakers gave an opinion that it could take up to three years and that during this period it would probably be necessary to ' pit pratet ' .................. close the country.
This was a popular idea with the PAD. No more tourism or foreign travel until all the reforms are carried through and anyone opposing them locked up. ( no pesky westerners to witness this either )
Obviously, this only represents the far right ' lunatic fringe ' within the protesters but clearly, such talk demonstrates that a progressive and prosperous Thailand is not as highly thought of in some quarters who would prefer a retrenchment of traditional values. No doubt , the new ' Rubbish Collection ' group will be ready to lend a hand in the creation of this stoneage utopian Thailand.

Hull used to be a good place for getting visas. It became a victim of its own success through too much exposure.
That's the problem with the internet. Great place for finding useful information but always ends up in killing the place being promoted.
The question is, after Sav goes to the wall, will there be anywhere else ?

Then how come the protests are only happening now and not 3 years ago?
Because the current level of corruption like the cancer it is takes time to manifest its symptoms so the treatment cycle is delayed a while.
Current protests ostensibly against corruption = ..................................................red herring.
The Thais ( especially the hi so ) don't mind corruption as countless polls have verified.
How would they really like it if when they killed someone whilst drunk driving their Ferrari or Benz that actually had to serve prison time for their crime instead of paying people off.

People are fed up with the corruption,
But thats just it.....they are'nt. Countless ABAC polls confirm the fact, they just don't like Thaksin and co being the recipients. If corruption were really to be stopped in Thailand how many civil servants would lose their jobs...and thats before you start on the politicians. Politicians grab the limelight because they go for the big cash prizes but in terms of total amounts the civil servants cream off a lot more. Day in day out, year in year out, the length and breadth of the country in every Dtambon and Amper those corrupt civil servants in a position to give out favours are taking their little envelopes under the table and squirreling away huge amounts.
As for Suthep.....corrupt politicians should face the death penalty ! Well he said that a few days ago ....and yet still he lives on !
If he were as honourable as he is disingenuous he would have gone home that same evening and topped himself.
Until people respect the law and the law enforcers are respectable the end of corruption is a long way off.
No....what the city folk are sick of is Thaksin and his pandering to the rural masses.

If you are referring to a "border run" to activate the next entry on an existing visa or to exit and return to get a "visa exempt" entry then AFAIK the only places that you can do that in Myanmar are Ranong, Mai Sot and Mai Sai.
Here one more and it is closer too to Three Pagodas than Mae Sot
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/671963-new-kanchanaburi-border-crossing-open/
Yes, the border is now open at Kanchanaburi ( Pu nam Ron ). I did my last visa run there two months ago. No public transport there though so you need your own wheels or you can charter a Song Taew from Kanchanaburi. Google ' Visa run to Kanchanaburi ' for more details

Yep, for anyone in power, and please extend it to the police.
And when they run out of victims they can make a start on teflers and visa overstayers

' He insisted to the delegates that such move will not affect the national economy, since similar incident has happened in the era of Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn.'
Hmm that would be the Thanom Kittikachorn ........one of the ' three tyrants '

From Getting away with murder in Thailand : state violence and impunity in Phatthalung
The three Thai tyrants : Thanom, Praphas, NarongIn February 1975, student activists exposed a series of brutal murders of citizens by the Communist Suppression Operations Command (CSOC) and other state security forces that had taken place two and a half years earlier in Phatthalung province in Thailand. The thang daeng, or “red drum,” killings gained their name from the method of killing employed. Accused of engaging in communist activities or tacit support for them, citizens were arrested, or simply taken, in large sweeps across districts throughout the province and brought to detention camps for interrogation. While some detainees were released after being interrogated, others were tortured and then killed. At night, after being beaten until unconscious or with irons around their necks, individual citizens were placed into empty two-hundred-liter oil drums at the edge of the detention camps, doused in oil, and then burned alive. While the bodies were burning, truck engines were revved to partially mask the screams of those who were being murdered. The engines only partially masked the evidence of what was occurring, because those who survived recalled both the screams and the sounds of the engines. Villagers and students estimated that several thousand people in Phatthalung, perhaps as many as three thousand, were killed as alleged communists in this manner. Now dead thankfully :

Still we can see who inspires Suthep in his meglomania and how he would like to deal with people in his Absolute Democratic utopia
