  1. The article says quite clearly that: "18,000 Thais die of alcohol-related problems annually while there are around 260,000 new drinkers every year, according to the National Statistic Office. These are some of the highest stats in Asia, putting Thailand among the region’s biggest alcohol consumers".

Also it is the Thais that are putting the burden on "Medical costs for alcohol-related maladies". Tourists and Farlangs have to pay threw the nose for their treatment if they don't have insurance.

So the answer is quite simple yes make a big Tax increase for Thai people buying alcohol and leave the price the same for Tourists and Farlangs seeing that, Quote “The government should not support sin-products that harm the quality of life of Thai people.". Not Tourists and Farlangs, this should be no problem to implement as Thailand is very good at using two tier pricing, example National parks, Zoo's, Waterparks, etc, etc, almost anything that has an admission fee.

But they will never do it, what making Thais pay more than farlangs its unheard of...

Just another excuse to charge everybody more and it will not resolve the alcohol abuse problem that Thai people have.

I can see Low Khow production increasing massive. I wonder if you can buy shares in it maybe its time to jump on the band wagon... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  2. This whole case and the way it's been handled and the result of the trail is disgusting. I have always totally agreed and still do with death sentences. BUT YOU CANNOT SENTENCE PEOPLE TO DEATH WITHOUT 100% PROOF and this case does not have that proof, I believe as many people do that they are innocent of this crime.

This will cause many problems as can be already seen by whats happening in Myanmar now and has already been very damaging for Thailand's well known, very bad reputation of the legal system.

I truly hope these two young men are not executed and released, Under Thai law I don't know if the verdict can be revoked, I hope so.

By the way I am British and I am appalled of the murders of two of my fellow countrymen on that island and justice must be served, but in the correct way...

  3. This would be OK if they had a good system of public transport. The lack of metered taxis here is a real pain.

Sure but that still does not excuse drinking and driving.. sure you will get gouged for hiring a baht bus but if you can afford to get drunk you can afford that ride too. You might even take a cheap hotel to sleep it off.

Thats ok so long as the Taxi driver is sober. I've had two accidents over the past years and both involved drunken baht bus drivers.

  4. Whatever happened to that Red Bull guy who hit and dragged the cop on a motorcycle for 300 yds on the streets of Bangkok? An then tried to cover it up by getting one of the family staff to take the fall.

This question has been asked many times in this forum but nobody has answered it and I think thats because nobody knows the answer same as myself. i would also like to know the outcome of that.

Another Big money Thai cover up???

  5. "Alerted by the screaming and crying coming from inside the elevator, hotel staff called the Kusoldharm Foundation"

"Mr Tawan had brought his mobile phone with him and was able to call a fellow staff member for help."

So did he use his mobile before the screaming and the crying, or after?

    blink.png

An Emergency Alarm !!!!! or is that too complicated........mind you its probably an optional extra in Thailand cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  6. "The judge initially sentenced Paitoon Kruain to 26 months in jail and a fine of B21,000, but both were halved because he had pleaded guilty.

The judge then decided to suspend the sentence because the offences abduction, molestation and driving under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine, were all first convictions."

    Are you kidding me?

"abduction, molestation and driving under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine. "

The judge should do 26 months for being a moron.

    I couldn't agree with you more….Amazing Thailand

  7. The bottom line is that most of us can live in Thailand, and never be affected by these lowlife thugs.

    i disagree.

the bottom line is that just reading about something like this affects anyone living in thailand - tourists, expat residents and thais.

it's an absolute screaming disgrace! the complacency and inability of the TOT and local authorities to do anything to stop it is not alarming - it's pathetic. this after all is not a new scam, it's something that's been on tv and everyone knows about, and affects the lifeblood of the country's economy - tourism - yet still nothing is done.

the complicity of the police is just another illustration of the evil paradox that exists here in thailand whereby the most powerful, well organised and insideous criminal organisation in the country is it's police force.

i am sick to death of reading about stuff like this, it IS on the increase along with many other things that are gradually turning this place from a friendly and prosperous easy-going country into a disreputable, unwelcoming cess-pit.

with reduced honest revenues available to the various pockets that NEED to stay filled i can only see it getting worse.

in the last 4 or 5 years i have seen more and more of this decline and i am sad to say that i am already making the moves to get myself, my wife and my two wee boys out of it, i simply don't want my family in a country where this is the norm.

I think it is a very good move on your part, to leave the country. That leaves those of us who derive tremendous enjoyment from our lives here more to work with. If one does not find one's life fulfilling, than it is certainly

your choice to move on. In the meantime, I continue finding the average Thai that I deal with to be pleasant, fair, and in good cheer. More than I can say about life in the US, or the UK.

I agree with you fully, I have been here for 20 years and I am now leaving and taking my family away from this enlarging cess pit

  8. I own quite a large boat, what u say i start a gang we all hire every jet ski on the island and tow them all away? Tow them to cambodia sell them for 3000 a piece.

You would serve tourism better by towing the owners out, and you don't have to go all the way to Cambodia to get rid of your cargo.

The jetski owners are making so much from these scans they can probably buy a new jetski with their pocket change.

if you are going to hire a jet ski best take a long bladed knife with you seeing as the police ( mafia puppets) are not interested, then you can at least have a sword fight with them hahaha they have all kinds of festivals here but what they could do with starting an Anti crime and corruption Festival instead of the shitty International music festival what a joke that is INTERNATIONAL not one, all Thai or Asian CRAP

  9. Yes you can, but not all bank accept to do it. My own bank Khrung thai bank

cannot perform. promised me that they will in the "future".

But try Bangkok Bank, I heard some friend that did it through that bank.

    Glegolo

i tried asking the siam commercial yesterday and they said no problem so long as i have had transfers come in the past, they didn't ask how long back or how much

  10. You can still watch Pattaya City News five times a day - with it's wine & dine supplement. :D:D:):D

    More boring crap....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  11. Sophon Cable TV is a joke it the worst and probably the most expensive cable TV company in Pattaya. The movie channels most of the time are unwatchable because of the sound volume that keeps going up and down with a loud background buzzing sound, continuous repeats of old if not ancient movies by todays standards all with very poor picture quality they must be very poor copies and what happened to the copyright laws, do they exclude cable tv companies. The rest of the stations that are worth watching sometimes freeze and stay like that for hours sometimes or all the stations just go off at time more than once a day or like the other day when it went off for most of the day and its not the first time that it has happened, I have 20 years experience and don't think I need to say more or hear any of there silly excuses.

3,600 baht a year who are they trying to kid what a load of crap

  13. i was also unimpressed with slices quality but the song-dance about the 99b + drink (i only drink water/beer/whisky period!) is a typical american come on. they run a commerical religiously of pcn and never mention this. i mean how many pieces can you possibly eat 3 or 4? cardboard i think sums it nicely. maybe cardboard with fake cheese.

i can also say after one and only visit to oasis ill never be back either. crappy chang beer at walking st prices, bad happy hr prices, the layout of the place is horrible (including some big post in the middle of the place <deleted>?) but the best ... girls started to chat me up. i replied in thai - not only did they f-me off, but actually got up and walked away. the really pathetic thing was i was w/ a friend here from dubai on holiday. obviously we didnt stay long... so oasis lost on that one sure. if i recall - i did not like the music either and i think as too many places these days had some dumb ass show as well.

i eat at tukcom often and never had a problem there or any other in 15 years in/out of thailand.

i would not call friendship 'friendly' but maybe too many dumb-ass farang try and pick up the girls there. only prob i have ever had was with a cashier who couldnt add.

for what its worth - i feel your pain about the thieves but i personally have neve been ripped off in thaialnd or anywhere else in asia. much of this is dumb luck.

They also have an International food court there now, what a load of Crap that is it's worse than their Pizza's, you must give them an applause because thats got to be very hard to do. International food court HAHAHA it's just the back end of what is already a tiny shop, there microwaved Samosa's are fantastic they bounce off the floor ideal for tennis slices Pizza what a load of <deleted> absolute RIPOFF....they talk about franchising how can you franchise crap like that

  14. Can't catch the motorists ignoring cross walks so target to slow moving pedrestrian trying to cross the road the best and safest way he/she can. That's great logic and keeps the tea pot warm.

Edit: Have you ever NOT jaywalked in Bangkok? Probably only when using a bridge or sky train station.

Tea money you must be joking Sang Som money more like...

  15. Jaywalkers subject of police blitz

    By John Le Fevre

BANGKOK (thaivisa.com): -- People who fail use crosswalks or footbridges will start receiving on-the-spot Bt200 (about $US5.88) fines from traffic police commencing August 1.

People who drop litter, including cigarette butts in a city almost bereft of public ashtrays or rubbish bins are already subject to fines of up Bt2,000 (about $US58.76) and now police have decided to target jaywalkers in a city where crossing the road is often a mad dash followed by furtive creeping steps to avoid cars and motorcycles that pay little regard for pedestrians.

For their part, impatient Bangkokians are known to attempt to dash between cars, or walk out from in front of buses directly into the path of traffic, often without looking.

Traffic police chief Police Major Weerapat Tansrisakul said traffic police in Bangkok will begin to arrest people who crossed the street without using crosswalks, footbridges, and other crossways.

He said the area around Victory Monument, Silom Road and Ratchaprasong Junction will receive the initial focus and urged people to comply with the traffic laws for their own safety.

Why not try a new vote, WHEN YOU HAVE OFFERED A BRIBE TO A THAI POLICEMAN HAS YOUR BRIBE EVER BEEN REFUSED..... YES or NO, I really would like to see the results of this one and I know there will be no surprises. Not that you need to offer, they have a way of making you understand its amazing how they can suddenly speak English!!!
