  1. But it happened in CALIFORNIA, which has some of the toughest gun laws in the entire United States! Can't keep a quitter from quitting, a loser from losing, or a madman from doing harm.

The highest gun crime is in the cities and states with the toughest gun laws; LA, California; Chicago, IL; New York, NY. States that encourage gun ownership and concealed/open carry have the lowest gun crime rates. Armed citizens are a deterrent to violent criminals. Also, since 1993 the incidence of gun related homicide is down -- 49%. And even Illinois, a state with one of the most strict gun control laws has just recently legislated to allow concealed carry by citizens.

As for the NRA blaming the victims for not carrying, that is simply a stupid statement. However, we do blame over-zealous politicians who make it difficult for the average, citizen to own (and carry) a firearm for self-protection. Gun ownership by law-abiding citizens deters crime, especially violent gun related crime.

If you aren't an American who was brought up around guns and the gun culture, you'll never understand. And if you're a non-American, we really don't care what you think, although you're welcome to your opinion.

I am a non-American (and proud of it!). I am NOT brought up around guns and gun culture. I have never seen a gun doing something good (except killing people!)

And I am very much aware, that you (as an American) don't really care what I (and other non-Americans) think. That is also WHY I can NOT give my honest opinion, because you Americans use guns to proof your own opinion (when you don't like another person's opinion).

I am very sad that 6 people have died in yet another shooting rampage. Again!!! California or another province, that does not really matter.... This is all due to your own laws, so with respect to the dead, som nam na wai2.gif

  2. Is there anything good, fair and honest in Phuket???

Sure, all those lasses in Patong.

So sorry, 12DrinkMore, even the 'lasses' in Patong are outmatched by their colleagues in Pattaya, Bangkok and other places. Never seen a more greedy bunch with (in general) bad service in every aspect bah.gif

Of course there are always exceptions on the rule wink.png

  3. Great trip report, Blether thumbsup.gif

I did this trip about 16 years ago, and I can see (and read) that not much has changed (which is great in my book!!!) The picture from your stop in Pak Beng triggered many good memories. It was a most memorable trip, I do recall my hatred for all the speedboats; slow boat is THE way to do it. I had great fellow travelers on my boat, very very good trip!

.....and now I think I have to do it again!!! smile.png I can not wait to make my plans wink.png

  5. Another rich Thai who thinks he can do whatever he wants sick.gif (((unfortunately it is probably true as well, which is even more sick.gifsick.gifsick.gif )))

    I suggest:

    1. Let him sit in his Mercedes; then the shop owner will shoot at him a couple of times without the intention to harm him. So, if he misses him, he probably and hopefully hit the Merc whistling.gif

    2. After this exercise, drown him in chicken sauce... Best to do it in the Mercedes (close the windows first!), so his family has the delicious smell of chicken sauce forever with them.... tongue.png

Of course, I don't have the intention to kill or harm the guy; it is just a demonstration of my dissatisfaction....

    What an absolute w@nk@er sick.gif

  6. Even with a so-called high IQ (determined by who?!?), Bush is the living proof that it is still very possible to be very stupid giggle.gif

Maybe USA's worst president, and IMO definitely the most stupid and most unfit for that job... Can USA be a real democracy if father as well as son are 'elected'???

I challenge anyone who knows a TRUE democracy where the father as well as the son are elected in a real election!!!

    Good Luck wai.gif

PS I do NOT include 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea', better known as North Koreacheesy.gif

  7. Maybe if EVERYONE who can NOT drive, stays at home from tomorrow onwards....

Streets will be so empty, nobody arrives at work, no more horrible accidents and more nice thoughts jump into mind smile.png

Of course, this will not happen as all/most Thai consider themselves as excellent drivers.... and let's not forget the 'face factor' tongue.png

Just another stupid woman who can not drive, what's new?!? coffee1.gif

  8. Very easy to distinguish who is REAL Buddhist and a REAL monk, if you read Buddha's word wai.gif

Obviously many who call themselves Buddhist or even Buddhist monk, will NOT qualify (in the eyes of Buddha)

"The first five precepts are mandatory for every Buddhist, although the fifth
precept is often not observed, because it bans the consumption of alcohol.
Precepts no. six to ten are laid out for those in preparation for monastic
    life
and for devoted lay people unattached to families. The eight precepts
put together number eight and nine and omit the tenth. Lay people may observe
the eight precepts on Buddhist festival days. Ordained Theravada monks undertake
no less than 227 precepts, which are not listed here."

I undertake to observe the precept to abstain from ...

    1. ...harming living beings.
    2. ...taking things not freely given.
    3. ...sexual misconduct.
    4. ...false speech.
    5. ...intoxicating drinks and drugs causing heedlessness.
    6. ...taking untimely meals.
    7. ...dancing, singing, music and watching grotesque mime.
    8. ...use of garlands, perfumes and personal adornment.
    9. ...use of high seats.
    10. ...accepting gold or silver.

Buddhist Publication Society, 1971, p xii)

  9. I still have trunks full of gold and cash waiting for me in several airports over the whole world smile.png

I 'only' have to transfer a couple of hundred dollars and these trunks are all mine....

Is there someone in TV who wants to help me with these trunks filled with millions of dollars?!?cheesy.gif

My standard answer is normally: "So sorry, but I am short of cash at the moment. Please advance the money (just 300 US$ or so), and I will pay you back 100 times the amount, if the trunk contains what you say it contains" (((Hey, what is 30,000 US$ if I get 35 Million dollars?!? I am a generous guy))) Normally there is no more reply after that tongue.pngcheesy.gif
