Anyone any recent recommendations or ones to avoid?
Thanks.
Emirates is always the one to beat (for me), but make sure you are booking on an A380, the business class on most of their 777s is very poor as it is a 2-3-2 layout with no direct aisle access. The A380 is 1-2-1..
As someone else mentioned Qatar is very good but they don't have Q Suites on all planes.
Etihad I found a bit meh.
A couple of years ago I tried Oman business on the 787. It's superb, almost a private suite for the window seats, much more comfortable and roomy than Emirates business, also the food was better. However I would still choose Emirates A380 for the bar and service and chauffeur drive.- 1

I took my radiation meter to a woman's tesla in a parking lot here in the US. Let's just say EV drivers won't be having a lot of children.. ;and that is putting it mildly.
Of course you did.
QuoteI do have 3 electric scooters and the solar system to keep them on the road for pretty much free; but the difference in radiation between an electric car and riding on an electric scooter (which I stand on 95% of the time) is huge.
https://www.wavewallcases.com/the-electric-vehicle-revolution-a-deep-dive-into-the-emf-radiation-concerns/
(And wavewallcases.com is a website that sells "EMF protection" products, but even they reference studies and tests that clearly show there is no risk and the difference in EMF radiation between an EV and an ICE is negligible. All linked to in the above article) -

Still, if your future projections have any value, I might be able to hold on and up my game to a CX5 2.5 Turbo ….. Happy days, thanks again for your reply.
That's a fair enough opinion, I wish more people could be honest like you and just say "nothing against EVs but I just love petrol engines". rather than making stuff up like they'll explode, you spend your life queueing at charging stations, they'll be worthless in a few years etc etc.
Would I would say is try one. I too love petrol engines, I love them a lot, always have done. But I tried an EV and was bowled over by it - so much so that I can say I would never buy another ICE. Getting back in the ICE after being in the EV felt like going back in time.
I still drive an ICE by the way, but when it comes time to buy a new car I will definitely be going for an EV. You seem like an open minded chap so I would say just try one for your own curiosity if nothing else (provided your lifestyle would support one: home charging etc).- 1

I saw an Ora Lightning Cat on the road yesterday. Verdict: ugly as Hell. Very frumpy, and looked as though someone had been rummaging in the Porsche/VW parts bin, joined a few bits together and then stuck some Bentley rear lights on.
BYDs, Deepals, generally look bespoke and very very nicely designed. This just looks like a hodgepodge of copied bits of other cars, not impressed.- 1

They can be fairly quiet, but no comparison. I drive what is considered a refined, mid-level "luxury" ICE, European Car of the Year winner. By ICE standards it is quiet. But from the outside it is not - the engine, the fan, extremely noisy, as are all ICE vehicles.
However after spending three days in a BEV version of the same car when I got back in mine it was no longer refined or quiet, it felt very noisy, extremely sluggish, and I could feel the vibrations. It is all relative.- 1

Ok fair point. Ignore the spark plug comment, brain not engaged when writing my list.

It is noisy but I don't hear it because my cd player is always on.
It's a 4 door cab and with a small cushion for my back , it is comfortable enough.
I have a closed garage , and feel pretty confident , I would sh-t my pants leaving a lithium battery car there. All my life I had not much luck with batteries. I don't see how it will be better with a battery powered car.
BUT if I had solar panels on the house , I would considder an EV , but away from the house and only if the dmax was beyond repair.
Are you also worried the sky will fall in?
It seems you worry a lot.
BTW the dmax is both dirty and smelly, no matter what you think.
(Not an EV owner, just someone who is not a fan boy of EV or diesel unlike many)=. Diesels are smelly, dirty, rattly, even if you have a 1990's CD player blasting. Modern EVs are silent, comfortable, and have Apple Car Play or Android Auto wireless connections.- 3

And how much would a BYD driver had to spend in that time? Ah, you don't know do you.
17 years in a rattly diesel truck, how much have you spent on oil changes, filter changes, fuel pumps and filters, transmission issues, differential issues, timing belts, spark plugs, cooling, be honest. How much spent on servicing all the mechanical parts that an EV doesn't have/?
And where's your evidence that in that time you would have to spend 1m+ on battery changes? Oh, you don't have any do you....
I agree that the 15-20 year lifecycle of an EV battery is unknown in real world use, but in testing it seems to be not an issue, hence offering unlimited 8 or 10 year battery warranties being common, with one manufacturer talking about unlimited lifetime warranties.- 3

I read an article recently that Volvo only expect their EV a life of about 8 years. So probably half of that
Great insight! I think you forgot to share the link to this statement from Volvo, as it does not match with anything I have heard senior Volvo people say either privately or publicly. Please update us, thanks.
Or did you make it up? Link link link.- 2

Why do people do this? The OP said she wants information on Chinese EVs, so people recommend big old pick-up based diesel tanks or rattly diesel pick up trucks. Why?- 1

You should check if you can get a 60-days extension for being married to a Thai, which will be enough to mature your 400k deposit.
It's not you visa you transfer from non-B to non-O – your visa has expired – it's the reason for extension of stay, which you change from business/work to retirement.
Thank you, I will check on this. And yes, it's not a visa, it's an extension of stay, my fingers just automatically type "visa" and my brain sometimes forgets to override them.

As already posted you'll have to leave Thailand and obtain a Non Imm O visa first, before proceeded to apply for a 1-year extension based on Thai spouse.
You have a number of options:
1. Re-enter visa exempt will grant a stay of 30 days, which you can extend for a further 30 days and an additional extension of 60 days to visit Thai spouse.
You can then apply for the Non O status at local Immigration but have at least 15 days permission of stay remaining (21 days at certain IO's).For the Non O based on Thai spouse application, the 400K funds are only required to be in the bank on the day of application.
Procedure here: VE-TV to Non O Spouse.pdfThe 400K THB is only required to be on deposit in a Thai bank account, your sole name, for 2 months prior to submitting the 1 year extension application.
2. Perhaps simpler, apply for the single entry Non Imm O visa from the Thai Consulate in Savannahket.
No proof of funds required for the single entry.
On entry, you will be granted a stay of 90 days, which can be further extended by 60 days to visit Thai wife.
You can then directly apply for the 1-year extension based on Thai spouse as soon as your 400K funds have seasoned for 2 months. It may assist if you post at which IO you use in case of abnormalities due to being a rogue office.
Ths is great information, thank you. So I can leave, get a 90 day non O with no proof of funds, re-enter, and when my money is seasoned for two months I can apply for the one year extension of stay at CW. This sounds ideal. Is Savannahket the only option for this or is it the same at any consulate/embassy? It would be preferable to go somewhere easier to get to that I can fly directly, but if it is only Savannahket then so be it.
Thanks again. -

Before you leave the country to reenter on the visa exempt, you should cancel your visa and work permit first with immigration and return your work permit to the labor department. To do that I think you need to get a letter from your employer stating your employment end date. Maybe your employer can do that for your. And then I think Immigration will give you a short period of time to leave the country after that.
Yes thanks, that's all in hand. I will go with my emplyer to cancel visa and work permit (it's a digital WP so nothing to hand back) on 9th April then I will get a 21 day extension to leave the country.

I just found the information below posted by JackThompson on the second page in the topic I linked above. This confirms my point about needing to apply for the 90 day visa within 2 weeks after arrival back in Thailand on the 30 day exempt visa because they wont give the 90 day extension for some reason if you have less than 15 days left on your 30 day exempt visa apparently. I don't know if this has changed though or not since when this post was made in 2017. Also, if you are not in Bangkok you might even have less time to apply. I don't know how this is all going to fit in with your need to wait another 30 days first.
Thanks. If I leave on 30th April, come back with 30 days, then get a 30 day extension, I should be able to apply when I have 15 days left on my extension as my money will have just about have been seasoned for the necessary time by then.......but it will be close.

I think the best thing to do (from memory) is to go to immigration within the first 2 weeks after entering Thailand on the 30 day visa exempt and then apply for the 90 day visa extension on the basis of an O visa. I think maybe there was an issue (with waiting longer than 2 weeks into the 30 day period after you arrive on the visa exempt to apply) but I can't remember exactly what it was. But the sooner you apply for the 90 day O visa extension after arrival the better I think. I am not sure about extending the 30 day visa exempt though for another 30 days before applying for the 90 day O visa extension. Ubonjoe was really the best person for all of these fine details, but unfortunately he is no longer with us. I was also on various B visas in the past, but I think the last one I was on before I switched to the O visa was for about 5-6 years. After some digging through some old Ubonjoe posts, I found an old 3 page discussion from 2017 which may cover some of the details you are wondering about. I would suggest reading Ubonjoe's replies in the discussion linked below and maybe it can answer some more of your questions:
Thank you. I will read through that thread and yes, UbonJoe is sorely missed - a truly wonderful, knowledgable and helpful man. RIP.- 1

Biz class flights to UK
in Thailand Travel Forum
Posted
Sorry but you are wrong. I have flown EK to Dubai and to the UK many many times in all three classes and they are different menus, 100%.
Just to check in case things have changed since I last flew I just picked a random flight - EK 372 - departing in the next few days, and checked the economy and business class menus on that flight. As I said, completely different. Sorry but you are completely wrong.
1st and Business share some items but 1st has a lot more choice, but economy and business are completely different.
