It ain't the cost of the visa. It's being locked in that hotel room for the 14 days. Not quite so normal...
56,000 baht and 14 days of my life locked in a room are a steep price to pay for a holiday. Unless it's a very deluxe suite, and then it's not 50K.
So make your mind up man. Originally your were complaining about the cost of the new visa:
So stupid. What is the different between Tourist Visa and STV ?? NOTHING ! STV is even more expensive with all the drama !!!you get in total 270 days with STV but have to pay 6000 bath and with tourist visa you can get in total 90 days but cost only 1900 bath for one extension
Now you're on about Covid quarantine. Given what is going on in the world I think Thailand's measures and compulsory quarantine have been prudent and worked well so far. Seriously, who in their right mind is thinking about travelling abroad anywhere for a holiday right now? No one, apart from you so you can complain about it.
Very few people will come for a normal package holiday with a 14 day quarantine and then potentially quarantine on their way home. No one. Everyone knows that. Some might if they have 9 months ahead of them and they can afford to be here that long, then it could be worth it - that is who this visa is currently aimed at, not your two week package tourist (they don't exist anymore). -

Heard of Covid? It's been all over the news recently.

yes i understand 270 days but it also costs you more. This model is just to lure tourist to earn money. Alone the hotels cost you minimum 50000 bath for 14 nights. Plus another hotel services and your private data through that stupid APP.
A 60 day visa is $50, so around 1,500 THB. 30 day extension is 1,900, so total for 90 days is 3,400 THB.
For 270 days the STV will cost you 6,000. So less than double, for three times the stay. What's your problem with that? Longer visas cost more in any country in the whole world. It is really not a lot of money for a 9 month visa.
And yes, hotels also cost money, that is quote normal. -

Er you ask what's the difference, then you go on to explain the difference to yourself whilst seemingly getting quite angry.
A Tourist Visa gives you 60 days which can be extended by a further 30 to give a total of 90 days.
The STV visa gives you up to 270 days.
Got it now, or do you need to explain it to yourself again? -

What's so idiotic about expecting a decent train service from Pattaya (one of Thailand's major cities) to Bangkok. Ever tried getting a train between these cities? Even when Bang Sue is open there won't be one.
I'm sorry, you said:
"Nice station but no trains. Amazing Thailand." And that is idiotic as the station is not open yet, and is just a silly bash. When it is open it will have trains.
What you just said above is something completely different. Had you posted, "Nice station, however I really wish there was a decent train service between Bangkok and Pattaya" then I wouldn't have called it idiotic. I would have found it strange and unrelated the the station but I wouldn't have called it idiotic.
You are right, there is no decent train service between Bangkok and Pattaya although they are going to be building one (which all the negative bashers on here have called useless, pointless etc).-

The aim of the original post was not to slam Thailand as a go to destination..
It's been my number 1 destination for the last 10 years...but to really think about whether you really want to keep spending your hard earned cash in a country that does not really appreciate the western tourist, only there money and where the exchange rate is almost heading to half as it was 5 years ago....steps could be taken to address that to ensure tourist get more value...more value =more spending...Thailand wins ัััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััััั.
The question one must ask is how low does the £,$,€ have to fall before you say enough is enough, cos for now , you keep spending, why would they want to lower the Baht. "For what " as the locals say in Thailand!!!
You do realise there are several downsides to just devaluing a currency, right? Or you think it's just "hey let's make our currency cheaper so more tourists will come, yay!"? They could devaluate it by 75% to get loooooads of tourists, so why not do that?
And yet another one who spouts "they don't want us here". A six month amnesty was pretty generous, did anywhere offer more? Thailand offers visa free entry for nationals of 64 countries. Book a flight, turn up, have a great holiday. They are now offering a 9-month visa for tourists.
The immediate future for Thai tourism is very bleak due to Covid. It is not going to recover or open up any time soon, but that is not because they hate you.
Oh, and by the way, it is the goal of every single country's tourism board to entice the highest spenders and extract the most money on their visits. More money and less people is a universal goal, Thailand is not unique. Have a look at the marketing goals of any major tourism destination - attract the wealthy, extract as much money as possible - it is openly stated and out there on the internet for you. Why should Thailand be any different? In my opinion Thailand opens up to a much broader range of visitor than most. Do you need bank statements or financial records to arrive here and be granted entry? Nope (not for most).
People sure do like to moan.-

china s high speed trains are not safe,i have seen a sign in it that says
this train can go up to 400 km an hour but we only go 299 km an hour because it might go off the rail
like everything from china cheap copies from the real thing
Must have taken you a long time to come up with that - the old "China high speed rail is not safe" chestnut that has no basis in fact, at all. In fact China probably has one of the world's safest networks. 36,000 kms of high speed line - that's around two thirds of the global total. So you can add up all the other high speed networks in the world and it would be around half of China's length.
How many fatal high speed rail accidents have there been around the world? Many. How many in China? One, nine years ago (although yes, it was a biggie). You can criticise China for many things, but they are very very good at building high speed rail lines and operating them safely.

Okay only a percentage of the staff are making donuts, the rest are sitting around doing nothing.
Can you tell me what "restructuring" is going on, because from what's been in the press not a lot of changes have been made, a few tweaks maybe, restructuring absolutely not !
You do realise that you don't just declare yourself bankrupt then you're free to make the "sweeping changes" you expect, immediately? It was less than a week ago that the bankruptcy court accepted their petition for bankruptcy and appointed the bankruptcy planners (many of them independent).
The planners will then come up with a reorganisation plan and submit that to the court around the end of the year, then if the court approves it it will get a go ahead in Q1 2021 and it will appoint someone to carry it out.
They also need to allow time for all creditors to file their applications for debt repayment which will also be incorporated into the plan and sanctioned by the court.
Bankruptcy proceeding are not fast in any country.
But never mind all that, continue to bash and continue to enjoy living in your world where court matters obviously happen instantly.
Not saying Thai hasn't been badly run - it has. But unlike you I don't wish all those thousands of people to be put out of work due to spiteful reasoning.-

Absurd isn't it.....
The reason Thais aren't tested prior to flight is because they are repatriating. As such Thailand cannot refuse them entry. They can however refuse foreigners. Same in any country.
The test a couple of days prior to a flight just means you are not showing positive at that point. Because of the incubation period you could easily have it. This is the reason for the 14 day quarantine during which everybody is isolated and tested twice - on the 5th day and 13th day - and yes, that applies to Thais and their children too.-

Yeah this fake storm which has already killed people, put hundreds out of their homes and caused widespread disruption and destruction.
Why one earth would you belittle it as a "weak ass storm" when it is having serious effects on many people? Not as good as your big old US storms? What is your problem exactly?? You have some sort of pathetic agenda and you should be ashamed.

What if you only travel out of town once or twice a year? That doesn't seem logical or fair. They would probably send you a bill or have you towed away as you block up the free flow line as the barrier has not gone up for you ????
A free flow system doesn't have any barriers. Sounds like every car needs a sticker regardless of usage. So if you barely need to use the motorways it is very expensive and unfair.

Look at the Swiss system of a yearly sticker, impossible to copy and available at any post office and convenience stores (apart from online ordering). THB 1'500 yearly flat for the entire network of "Autobahn" with Zero endeavours.
Dont get caught though without a sticker on the highway as this will cost you a godforsaken fortune in a fine; paid up before you continue to drive - simple as that! What if you only travel out of town once or twice a year? That doesn't seem logical or fair.

I drove through one recently without paying due to the fact the barrier was up and a green light was on, not exactly clear at all that you had to stop, didnt care much sold the vehicle a few weeks back anyway, that and the fact the log book was still at an old address from 7 years ago so there must be 100 tickets for speeding somewhere.
They were free during the long holiday.

BSR MRT Pink line and MRT Yellow line monorail orders
The first sets for both lines have been assembled and shipped on 4 Sept to Thailand. They should arrive by the end of the month.
All other sets will be progressively delivered during next year with final deliveries expected by 1st quarter of 2022.
They actually look really cool, and much bigger / wider than I was expecting.

I was looking for some renders but could not find them. However, you can see in the route video around the 2 min mark the configuration of the line when it passes the Chonburi Motorway. Larger cross support beams will be built on the south side of the motorway.
The reason why the line passes under the ARL is so that the station can be built at a reasonable height as otherwise the station would have to be much higher and the interchange to the ARL would be more cumbersome to construct. It also allows air space for the future SRT Light Red viaduct to be more easily built.
Thanks LG, I was hoping you would pop up with information. Very interesting and makes sense, thanks for sharing. I had been wondering about that for a long time.

A sorry tale and great example of the negative impacts of this kind of knee-jerk decision- especially when announced at relatively short notice !
Yes, holidays can have impact on people if government offices are closed, which is why we should plan around that. But they hardly announce them the day before they happen. The September holidays were announced about a month in advance, and the ones they are talking about now are for November.

I can't be bothered to read all 15 pages of (no doubt) irate responses to this obvious clickbait, but can respond to this one.
Labourers from neighbouring countries cost less. They are not better quality, more reliable or energetic. Sorry to smash your racist preconceptions about Thais. They are simply cheaper. That is why they are hired. Pretty simple really.
By your same logic, why does the US import so many Mexicans to work in menial tasks? Because they are better quality, or because they are cheaper?
