  1. Very over priced!!! The box is more than twice what it's sold for in Ban Moh, and the monthly subscription is about 250 there as well. I could get a box for about B4,000 down the road from me and pay B200 monthly fee.

This thing is sold by every Tom, Dick and Harry cable/satellite TV shop owner in Bangkok at the moment.

Interesting. What does the 200 baht get you? With this one there is no monthly subscription unless you want all the sports etc.

Live TV channels ( can't disclose because your thread would be closed unless your a forum sponsor ) + football, 18+, movies, and a lot more.

I did click on the link provided this is what I found:

    edited because file wasn't attached.

Yes, I've been through the pricing and I thought it was reasonable for what you get. But if you can get the same for 200 baht that's a different matter. Hmmm.....

  3. I have a friend who recommended this to me a few months ago.

He swears by it and says the quality is excellent, especially the HD channels and now he is seriously considering dropping True cable tv.

At that time I read several reviews on the internet but wasn't impressed. I guess I should go visit him and see for myself.

    Hi Petedk,

Yes, I would love to hear a first hand report, and would like to know what sort of internet connection your friend has. My main worry is buffering on HD channels. It's cheap enough to just try it and see but it would be nice to know first if I'm going to be wasting time and money.

Currently I have True and CTH at home, but if this works I would certainly drop True but would keep CTH for the Premier League football (unless you can also get that through this box - I have asked them but haven't received a reply yet).

  4. Hi chaps.

I spotted an advert today to be able to watch all the World Cup matches with English commentary. From this company:

    www.watchglobal.tv

I've been in touch with them and it sounds very good. But it almost sounds too good. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I would list what they tell me it offers you but I don't want to be accused of advertising, but as well as the live TVand all the subscription packages, they also have half a million movies and TV series (including latest ones) on demand for free, without subscription. I'm thinking of taking the plunge but would like to know if anyone else has done so.

I have a True 20 Mb connection. Good enough?

    Anyone?

  5. If there was even a slight risk of dangerous interference from mobiles they would take them off people as they board and return them upon disembarking. On any plane with 200 - 500 passengers there will always be a few devices left on, that's for sure - deliberately or accidentally. If there was any risk in this they wouldn't let it happen, simple as that.

  6. Many disturbing aspects of this situation.

Second, that the X-ray machine did not pick-up this item in a checked international bag -

It's not that disturbing really - it happened in the check in area which is prior to screening in nearly all international airports.

You could place anything in a bag in that area and no-one would be any the wiser. But it would get picked up later.

It is disturbing that someone thought this was a good thing to carry on a plane though - they should be charged.

  7. I normally go with a wheelchair when i checkin and keep up the act all the way till I've gotten through customs whether thats arriving in thailand or the other way. Works wonders, i just jump out once I'm through, or sometimes during the journey if nobody is looking.

I hope you are joking....pretty sure you must be with a post like that. Ho ho ho, how incredibly amusing.

  8. Was your friend upgraded on BKK-AUH? AUH-LHR? Both?

what class of service was he ticketed in? Coral? Pearl?

Believe EY only operates two class (economy and business) between BKK and AUH.

Op ups - economy oversold - are not unheard of; usually go to frequent fliers. Was his CoS oversold?

I was upgraded from business to first for the AUH - LHR leg of a trip from Bangkok to England last year. No idea why - it was my first time flying with them - but I did rather enjoy the experience. Was also upgraded from Business to First without asking on British Airways from London to Bangkok a few years ago. Again, it was my first time flying with them.

Not sure about getting it just by asking though.

  9. You would be better off asking this query in the Swampy sub-forum thread as most of the info you need - aside from the hotel - is there.

In case you chose to take the ARL the next morning check the Cityline timetable on the site, http://srtet.co.th/en/11_time_table/lastest/city_pth-svb_weekday.html. The Nasa Vegas hotel is located a few mins walk from Ram stattion as stated above so it is a good bet though there are also cheap hotels in Pratunam not far from Ratchaprarop station.

Map of metro lines in case you are unclear, http://www.bts.co.th/customer/en/02-route-current.aspx of what goes where.

Lastly, do remember that Mo Chit 2 Intercity bus terminus is some 2kms from Mo Chit BTS station if you chose that option, Many, many public BMTA buses go straight from Mo Chit 2 right around to BTS Mo Chit, or a quick taxi ride.

    Hi LG,

Just one small thing; I wouldn't say Nasa Vegas is a few mins walk from Ram station - it is literally right across the road. It's a bugger of a road to cross though so it might take you a few minutes.

They're actually in the process of building a walkway from Nasa Vegas to the station so you won't need to cross the road and they seem to be making really rapid progress with it.

    Cheers.

  10. As for the new schedule, the Airport Rail Link will be using the Payathai Express Line train as an extra City Line train. Therefore, the Payathai Express Line's services will be cancelled on weekdays from 6 am. to 10 am., but will available on weekends and public holidays from 6 am.to midnight.
The move will add 5 additional services to City Line during the morning rush hours, between 6 am and 9 am, to accommodate the number of City line passengers, which has risen by up to 8,000 a day.
    This seems like good news?
Are they running the fourth (baggage) car? If so, can people ride in that car?
If they'd ever reconfigure the track(s) west of Makassan they could use a single Express train to serve both Makassan and Phaya Thai, but this relatively simple, inexpensive, straight-forward project seems too challenging.

    Hi Loma,

Yes, they run the fourth car and no, you can't go in it.

    Cheers.

  11. I find it a tad ironic that after so many, many posts complaining about the absence of a pedestrian link for the last 3 years - perhaps 1/3 of all posts in this thread have been about this issue - not one person has yet posted a comment or an evaluation of the new link now that it has finally opened last month!

Was it all much ado about nothing......???

One of the impressive aspects of the link project and perhaps to justify the nearly $3m budget is the large area which has been lawned and landscaped between the CAT and Ratchada rd. I only hope that it is maintained and survives beyond a few months!

    Hi LG,

I've used it a few times and I have to say, as bendy slopey, zig-zaggy elevated walkways go, this is up there as one of my favourites. It's definitely in the top three anyway.

    Cheers.

    Matt

  12. You're so eager to pick a fight and spout your venom, that you missed the entire point. It is far too early to decide the cause of this incident, be it landing gear malfunction or human error or other. Airbus will want a say in an open investigation, since their aircraft has been blamed. This is not "condescending, smug/superior' but reasonable and logical.

THAI is claiming a failure in the aircraft's right landing gear. Airbus will want to send a team to investigate, and will want the results of the investigation to be factual and open. THAi won't be able to wiggle out of that one, unless they admit they were being Thai and blaming the aircraft for human failure.

So you know that it was human error do you? It couldn't possibly have been a landing gear malfunction because there were Thai people flying the plane - must have been their fault/their stupidity......typical Thais.

Horrible, condescending, smug/superior attitude some people have, it's quite sad really.

Oh, I see. You were simply saying that should Airbus investigators deduce that it was human error that - 1km after touch down - caused the nose of the plane to suddenly plummet to the ground and the aircraft to subsequently veer off the runway, then Thai won't be able to get out of that unless they admit they were simply being Thai and blaming someone/something else for their failures (as Thais do I infer). It also seems like you have already deduced it was human failure and there would therefore be something for them to wriggle out of.

You're right, nothing smug or superior about that, my mistake. Please carry on.

  13. I noticed Thai airways were quick to paint over the tail logo on the plane to blank it out. Never seen them move so fast!

How long do you think that it will take to release the findings of the investigation.

I suggest it will never be publicly released if a person or persons is found to be responsible for the accident.

"we mustn't hurt their feeling must we not" TIT

  14. I stumbled across this SARL timetable app. I cannot vouch for accurate it is. It looks like it uses the published on-line schedule, and the clock to estimate the next available trains?

Obviously an app. which was linked directly into the SARL real-time database would be cool.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pprajak.arl&hl=en

I downloaded it and had a chance to test it today, going from Hua Mark to Makkasan. For the incoming train it was pretty accurate (within less than a minute), but I'm sure it just counts from the timetable. Having said that though, it said the train before mine was at 9.00am. Mine was at 9.19. The next one was 17 minutes after that, then the next one was 9 minutes after that. Maybe the App is updated every hour? Or maybe that just is the timetable, weird and irregular as it is (I haven't checked with the published timetable).

    Useful app though.

  15. Was In the news about 10 days ago, they had just started repairs to many pot holes in the swampy runways and parking spots, repairs estimated to take 3 months. Delays expected.

Maybe this affected your Qatar flight.

I doubt that. That is scheduled work and shouldn't cause flights to be redirected, especially considering they flew back to BKK a little later. I'm guessing it was probably due to weather.

I'd be interested to know how long the flight from DMK to BKK took.

  16. I flew back to England with them for Christmas with my wife and two young kids. I was dreading it but I have to say it was a really good flight. Plenty of room, new aircraft, decent service, beer whenever you ask for it.

I will echo what others said about Doha airport though. The bus transfers are a pain and take quite a long time each way. Then when you get to the terminal there is hardly anything there apart from the motorway cafe.

I would be happy to fly them again.

  17. Aside from poor signage, rip off duty free ad ganster car parks taxi touts insufficient wifi and toilets whats not to like ,you may even be held hostage as this can be done with impunity and no consequences an utter failure.

Yes, be careful you don't get taken hostage as this happens all the time!! Literally every day!! Thanks for speaking out! Stay safe.

  18. No surprise, for a new airport it is a total failure. I suppose a fe people got paid well though from it, and it is functional for the scammers.

I use it regularly. I turn up, I check in, I go through security and immigration, I have a couple of beers, I get on a plane, I take off from a runway. Pretty much the same procedure as any other airport I visit.

When I come back I land on a runway, I get off the plane, I go through immigration, get my bags, leave the airport, sometimes get the train, sometimes get a taxi - both are very cheap.

Please explain to me why it is a "total failure" and where you get scammed. I'm obviously missing something, or maybe I'm just lucky.

So, please, I want to know why you describe the airport as a "total failure"? It seems to work when I go there. And please refrain from repeating old wives' tales about getting arrested for window shopping etc., Where did it fail you? When and where did you get scammed? (I'm willing to bet that you haven't actually been scammed but you just like to repeat the typical TV line).

  19. There is some detail here: http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/business_phase2_en.php

Increased capacity comes from the new/planned mid-field satellite 1 concourse which looks to have ~ 30 fixed gates. There are lots of remote stands already. Maybe best to just build satellite 2 (further to the south) at the same time? Not sure at what point two runways, with limited take-offs/landings starts to become the short-straw? They have, at most currently, dual operation (take-offs and landings) on one runway, and single operation on the parallel runway, at any one time. During dry season not so much an issue, but during rainy season things can get stretched out a bit.

I think there were some issues with one of the runways at DMK, which might require a significant repair. Does anyone know if they are using both runways at DMK currently? And i think the runways at DMK are too close together for simultaneous, dual operation?

    HI Lomatopo,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately two of your links (satellite 1 and satellite 2) take you to eBay. Don't worry, I haven't bid against you. smile.png

Not sure what you're on about? I only pasted one, single link which should take you to www dot suvarnabhumiairport dot com.

I did embed/upload two pictures (if logged in, you should see thumbnails), so maybe there is some problem with your PC, browser, internet, etc.?

edited to add: ThaiVisa does seem to have some sort of new, automated 'process' which seems to add hot-links for certain words and phrases, so maybe that is what it throwing you off?

Hmmmmm, how strange. In your post both the mentions of the word "satellite" are hyperlinks. Both take you to different sales items on eBay which are vaguely satellite related. (Satellite speaker stands and something else, although yesterday they were model spaceships). I'm using Safari. If I use Chrome they aren't presented as hyperlinks.

Either a strange new TV thing or a strange new Safari thing....
