  1. Accountability, like Karma, is a b......
  2. Coming soon to a media source near you.
  3. This is nothing new. During the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's the same technique was used with Blacks. They were promised housing and jobs and put on buses North: https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2020/02/29/809740346/the-cruel-story-behind-the-reverse-freedom-rides
  4. I suspect that Xi has kept a very close eye on the Ukraine situation. Had Putin pulled off the initial estimates of a matter of days to take Ukraine, that would send a signal that Taiwan might be within an easy grasp. The sanctions and the military backing that Ukraine, as well as the enormous amount of loyalty of the Ukrainian soldiers and citizens to an independent Ukraine, has no doubt given Xi pause in considering taking Taiwan militarily. It would appear there is a lot more at stake in Ukraine than just Ukraine.
  5. That's not exactly correct. It's not normal for both parents to get arrested and it certainly doesn't happen 'thousands of times a day.' Just to give you a view on how the Courts go to great extents to keep families intact take a look at the Teresa & Joe Giudice's case. Simply crossing the border is not a violent offense and would not generally involve incarceration. The very vast majority of the people who are arriving with children are seeking asylum. That is a right and should not result in incarceration. I don't know why you defend this cretin-inspired policy. It was wrong, it was unnecessary and the results have been disastrous. The human toll is immeasurable.
  6. Many of the parents were in fact deported quickly after their arrival. Their children weren't. You cannot deport someone to a country that is not their home country. Many, if not most, of the people crossing the border are not Mexican nationals. Mexico has agreed to allow them to stay, pending the resolution of their immigration case. There are a lot of ways to approach a problem. Separating the children was about the poorest.
  7. It seems you like to post misinformation. Obama did not have a policy to remove children from their parents. Trump did. Unaccompanied minor children who crossed the border were held in detention for up to 72 hours. They are then transferred to HHS for placement in an appropriate child care facility, foster home or a sponsor. Sponsors are usually designated family members who are legally eligible to be a caretaker. Children must have a legal guardian. It's the law. What Trump did, and make no mistake, it was the most horrendous decision of his administration, was to take children from their parents. The basis of our legal and cultural system is the family unit. Great efforts are made to preserve the family unit. That extends through every state and under federal laws and regulations. There was never a need to remove children en masse from their parents. Thousands of children were separated and never reunited with their families. Interestingly, the cost of their care, most of which went to facilities run by Trump cronies, was over $800 per day, that's $24,800 per month and just shy of $300,000 per year. The Biden administration has put in a great deal of effort (and money) in finding the parents of these children in order to reunite them. As of now, there are just shy of 200 of the over 5,000 that they have not been able to reunite. The Trump administration never kept records of what children belonged to what parents and the cases were handled independently. That meant that well most of the parents were eventually admitted to the US, they had no idea where their children were. For those who were deported, the children remained in the US. Did the zero tolerance policy work? It did not. All it did was destroy families and make for huge costs to the US and the admission of many, many children who would have been removed with their parents. It is beyond belief that any decent person could support such a policy or the man who implemented it.
  8. Ah, and it's only alleged because the perpetrator would not travel to the US to attend court and extraditing a member of the royal family could be a bit tricky. But the sum he paid out pretty much tells the story.
  9. The crime, and it was a crime in the US, was committed on US soil.
  10. You are wrong and your information is false: Evidence Shows That Most Immigrants Appear for Immigration Court Hearings Irrefutable evidence shows that over the past two decades the majority of immigrants have shown up for immigration court hearings. Rates of appearance increase when people have legal representation, calling into question the logic of detaining people in prison-like conditions when representation is a viable alternative to ensure court appearances. https://www.vera.org/publications/immigrant-court-appearance-fact-sheet And here are a couple of other sources: https://www.statesman.com/story/news/politics/politifact/2022/05/19/fact-check-people-attending-their-immigration-court-hearings/9823253002/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/06/26/how-many-migrants-show-up-immigration-court-hearings/ But now, many of them will never receive notice of when or where their hearing is. Not a particularly smart move to put them on buses if you are really interested in immigration laws and reforms, is it?
  11. I am not sure it's correct to say Republicans can't do it. I think it's that rather large and scary part of the Republican party that follow Trump and MAGA. Unfortunately, the MAGA crowd live in a binary world, you are either with them or against them. I know a lot of RINOs (Republican in Name Only) that would like to see the party get back to its fundamental values. Unfortunately, their voices are drowned out. Remember, an empty drum makes the most noise.
  12. How wrong you are. First, BLM is not a cult and it's not based on conspiracies. Second, you might want to look at the number of acts of violence in the name of Trump: 'No Blame?' ABC News finds 54 cases invoking 'Trump' in connection with violence, threats, alleged assaults. a nationwide review conducted by ABC News has identified at least 54 criminal cases where Trump was invoked in direct connection with violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault. ABC News could not find a single criminal case filed in federal or state court where an act of violence or threat was made in the name of President Barack Obama or President George W. Bush. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/blame-abc-news-finds-17-cases-invoking-trump/story?id=58912889
  13. I suspect either the ammunition from North Korea didn't arrive or they are shooting blanks.
  14. Of course, the anti-everything crowd will be screaming bloody murder when these people don't show up for their immigration hearing because nobody knew how to contact them. Texas is not taking due diligence with the reporting requirements. It's the same thing that happened with the kids in cages. The gov't is still looking for the parents of over 400 of them.
  15. I can't imagine how angry Putin is and I don't want to think about how he may retaliate.
  16. Well, it seems that since Bannon stole the money, we are reduced to barricading the border with used containers.
  17. I've not known very few families in which the matriarch or patriarch has passed away without some family drama coming into play. The glue that holds the family together is gone.
  18. A special kind of 'long covid'. Very sad for so many families.
  19. I struggle to understand how some posters cannot see the situation for what it is. It is the theft of documents and then lying about it. He most certainly could be arrested but he is being given special treatment because he is a former president. It's a courtesy only. Rest assured, if anyone else did it, they would be so far back in jail, they'd have to pump in daylight. Just to give you an idea of how daft Trump is and how desperate he is, let's look at his demand for a Special Master. The purpose of a Special Master is, in part, to determine whether or not he can exercise Executive Privilege over the documents. Executive Privilege has to do with the disclosure of the documents outside of the Executive Branch. The DOJ IS part of the Executive Branch. No documents are subject to privilege as long as it is in the hands of the DOJ. This is a delaying tactic and is legally nonsensical. Even his former AG, Bill Barr, says so. He took documents that he had no right to remove from the WH. Some of those are classified and he and anybody helping him, would know those cannot be removed. Arguably, some of the documents and items he might have an argument over. It's an argument he will lose, but it's a weak but valid argument nonetheless. The National Archives recognized a lot of material that they should have was missing and they went to the DOJ. The DOJ asked for it back. A bunch of it was returned, but far from all. They then continued to negotiate to get it back, but it wasn't returned. The Court issued a subpoena which still didn't produce the documents. One of his attorneys, at his behest, wrote a letter saying that all documents had been returned -- or that no documents were there. At some point, someone let them know that the documents were still there and gave them information as to where the documents were. The FBI took the unprecedented action of getting a search warrant. They did not raid his home. They searched it and they did so in accordance with the areas cited in the warrant. For someone who has persistently and consistently lied about the documents and constantly changed his story, he is being treated with unbelievably kid-gloves. No matter how you cut it, he is a thief and a liar and his misinformation does amount to obstruction of justice. The current AG is a cautious person and has gone about as far as he could without himself violating a law by ignoring a legal situation. Any charges will come AFTER it is fully investigated, not during an investigation. Trump knows that so the longer he stalls, the longer he is free.
  20. In Arizona, the governor decided to close a section of the wall with shipping containers. Here's a picture of the wall after the containers started tipping over. It should also be noted that it's not state land and, in fact, is Tribal/Federal law.
  21. It seems he was working as an English teacher.
  22. We've listened to these people doxxing innocent people, name calling, threatening and violently entering the Capitol. That's just the tip of the iceberg. It' about time it gets pointed out. He has nothing to lose because they are never going to vote for him or any other democrat. I doubt they would even vote for a republican he didn't endorse.
  23. Are you suggesting that Trump is now peddling stationery and folders? Do you think it bought them before leaving the WH and then put them in the boxes? It's not the folders that are important, it's what was in them.
  24. Oh my goodness. This could be serious. When I think of Britain, I immediately think of pubs. Spending time at the pub is a tradition and it's not a good idea to mess with tradition.
  25. I didn't listen to his entire speech. I support Biden in general, but I find him hard to listen to. His speech sure seems to have riled up the Trump base. Apparently, it's OK for Trump & Co. to say whatever they want about anybody or any group but they get all snowflakey when they are the recipients of what they dish out.
